2018 Olympic Figure Skating Pairs FS

Candyman the music, the choreo is not befitting an Olympic final. Especially the part where the song sings "Voulez-vous couchez avec moi" or something. Like seriously?? This is the Olympics, not Stars on Ice.

On the Olympics pre-show Scott Hamilton was emphasizing S/H's personal best in the short program and how they couldn't have asked for more. She's like no, they were disadvantaged by the skate order and should have received higher components. If they had skated side by side with T/M the judges would have given them more credit.

As if I didn't love this woman enough! Thank you Tanith!

I feel like it's gone way beyond the usual "I don't much care for this program" now. People are openly saying that T/M are ruining pairs skating by daring to do well with it, that they must be paying off the judges to get the scores they do and there's not a single redeeming feature to it. Whenever I go into a pairs thread that's not their fanfest it's all I ever hear and since I'm the one person in the world who actually enjoys it (apparently it's the most offensive thing in the world, so how dare I actually do so!) it's really just too much.

Anyway, I'm also hoping for an excellent skate from the North Korean pair, they're really something special.

I don't think that most people think T/M are ruining pairs skating. Their elements are great. However, I think people wish they had a different program to display that beauty. In a way, the emptiness of their SP/LP make their elements stand out more. It also highlights their skating more because they don't have excess transitions and thus their speed and edges stand out. I often think that I would like Medvedeva and Zagitova more if their programs weren't so cluttered and they had time to show good edges and extension. So there is a balance at work there. But, the long program is choreographically empty, so you hope that they will receive fair scores in comparision to the teams who are working harder to have a good performance and good elements.

I just hate all the hate for Duhamel and Radford, T and M, Patrick Chan, Evgenia and to a point Alina as she doesn't get that much hate. I fear that if "we" a lot of posters have any power that "we" will intimidate the scoring and that may not be good overall. As much as people were furiious with 2002 and really it was not the skaters but the judges all that crying really did not help the sport or make the sport more loveable with the new changes.

As much as we can say Sui and Han should score higher I or we can say Patrick should have higher pcs (despite a system where they mark the pcs so high for rather moderate pc skaters that there is little room to differentiate the truly greats and where tes seem to effect pcs. But in the end it will be interesting to see who tonight wins and who brings it. I still think the scoring should have been more differentiated- and that teams like the N.. Koreans while great should be more spread out from the second tier and then more of a differentiation with the top tier. But it makes for excitement - of course it could make for an interesting podium. It will be interesting to see if the top four in the short are still in the top 4.

She is really a great commentator. Honest, without being rude or attacking anyone personally. Her husband is the same and so is her former partner Ben Agosto. I wish those three would commentate all the time.

Agreed. OT: I've noticed this about several ice dancers in long form interviews. They tend to be very eloquent in speaking about skating. Very thoughtful. Shae-Lynn is another example.

Critcism does not equal hate. Now if people are blaming the skaters for the marks they receive. That is illogical. The judges are responsible. Skaters should be respected. However, if someone is criticizing the execution of an element or the technique or even the choreography of a particular skater or pair, that is constructive criticism and we should all learn to deal with constructive criticism it is a sign of maturity. Skaters , as a group, are excellent at dealing with criticism because they receive so much of it. As fans, we should try to imitate this.

To be fair, there are many former single and pairs skaters who would make great commentators too. I just don't think the ones NBC chose are the best

Oh definitely. Your point just coincided with something I'd been thinking about. Perhaps there is a minority effect: when you're in ice dance you learn about every other discipline but it doesn't necessarily work the other way around. But that's just a crazy hypothesis: there's neither the sample size or conditions to test that. topic:

On another note...with her analytical skills wouldn't Meagan Duhamel make an awesome coach. I have no idea what her plans are but feel her passion for the sport will need an outlet in the future and coaching seems to me like a great fit.
