I just looked at their spin level. I really hope to god that that one great spin that always gets them in trouble didn't lose them levels here. Let me pretend I didn't see that
This competition was so so good. The guys bettercome with their A game or its gonna be pretty anti-climatic. I mean Aljona and Bruno were just on another level. Meghan was going for everything and despite their recent bout with injury Sui and Han were just going for it, no retreat no surrender. I am really glad I stayed up, but now I need some sleep.
EDIT: How is the TAT taking this? Oh boy, does Trankov plan to come back to competition to save Russian pairs skating? But then he hates working so maybe he'll need to wait till Angelica grows up and he's able to find her a suitable partner. Ha, Russian press should be hilarious tomorrow. Any athlete or specialist that believes that Russian monitoring or test skates serve any purpose should take note of this utterly abyssmal season with the girls being the only real exception to the rule and this is an Olympic season. Help!!!

The BV difference on that last lift was 0.50. That alone would have won them the gold, even with +0 GOE.
Nevermind the level 2 spin (1.0 BV lower than level 4), nevermind the single toe (1.0 BV lower, and negative GOE), nevermind the salchow step out (negative GOE).
Look at it this way: they had a 2-mistake cushion, and blew it on levels.
they didn't lose because of turandot. they lost because both of their jumping passes were botched and s/m were perfectly clean.
edit: i agree, this program concealed their personalities, they need something much more idiosyncratic.

Oh dear SarahSynchro the things that come out of your keyboard. I assume you are joking because some of the things you write lol - very concerning. Almost the Canadian version of Donald Trump only we know you are saying things jokingly. Hope you enjoyed the skating your Canadians did you proud. And your eye candy was still there - but Candyman wasn't.
On a side note - I really feel sorry for T and M so close (and Sui and Han). Aliona should buy everyone ice cream - well maybe nicer than that lol.
All three medalists gave olympic memory performances - though S/H did it in the short. Thta is how you want to do an olympics. The Russians too had a great olympic moment though it was in the team event and the short.
I love both the top two teams and D/R really grew on me with the olympics - for some reason Meagan always rubbbed me the wrong way but from the way she has acted over the olympics and the way other skaters talk about her I see I was wrong and you can really tell she gave her all and is a really great olympian. She would be a great coach. D/R got their OGM and deserve that status of being known as an OGM followed by the bronze.
Aliona deserved that moment - 5 olympics - 2 non gold medals. Coming from behind. Germans has alot of olympic medalists in many of the skiing events so I wonder how German media is portraying the skating and whether she will be a big deal in Germany because her story is so inspiring. She deserved to go down with G/G as one of the great of pairs skating and her OGM cements that status.
S/H deserve an OGM. I hope they get it. It's tough to say with injuries, etc. always being a threat, but I hope to see them in Beijing and get that OGM. This came down to a mental game as both the two top teams were basically equal. Aliona and Bruno were experienced enough to know how to handle the pressure. Moreover, it probably was an advantage for them to go first and be underdogs. Aliona and Bruno could skate with nothing to lose while the others were skating from defensive positions which is not how you really win an Olympics. Think Sara Hughes/Michelle Kwan - it's hard to win skating defensively.
I feel for the Russian skaters.They take great pride in their pairs skating. They did not have a program that suited them however, which is really quite puzzling. I am sure they heard the comments at Europeans so not sure why they went with that

This is why my emotions are super complicated right now. I'm very happy for Aljona and yet, it's just for her. As a team, they don't center for me, I am happy for her for all she's done.
As a team S/H have it by miles and miles, which is why I'm so sad. Ahhh life. With her injuries ... well everyone says next time, next time. More often than not, there is no next time actually. We just remember more those who get it.

How did they lose those levels? Can you explain?

I'm already seeing the bright side: Sui and Han winning the gold at home in 2022 with their own program instead of a rehash of Turandot. 
Someone here who is better at the technicalities of the levels can explain. Again I'm trying to pretend I didn't see the protocols

Probably. He has back problems and why continue now if they got the biggest price of all.
I still think Robin is the superior skater, but the thing that did make it work out for S/M and not S/S was, imho, the decision to leave Ingo Steuer and Chemnitz behind. S/S should have done that a long time ago, moved to Oberstdorf and continued with coaches that were supported by the Fed, without having to worry about finances all the time. Say what you want but a healthy private live and general happiness does help in this sport, and she got this after she finally cut ties with Steuer. He is/was a great coach and they created super programs over the years, but this was another level and I think he was blocking her.
Frankly, people here are treating T/M like villains who were going to stole medals from the "good guys" and just needed to get out of the way. It's just awful. I'm really glad with the podium, especially S/M, but all the bashing over T/M since the last group begun to skate was sad.
I feel you. I get it. I'm so happy for Aliona but soo sad for S/H. Sorry....I hate to say but I really only notice Bruno when there's a mistake..eek

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but D/R were the first to land a quad throw jump at the olympics
I hope after they get over the initial disappointment S/H can be proud of their silver medal because to come back after her injury and get a silver in this field of strong skaters is still an incredible accomplishment. Looking forward to them the Russians and the French coming back with fire in their belly ready to throw down at Worlds and next season. Cherry on top would be for T/M to fire their choreographer this summer and get a spectacular number for next year!
