Judge 9 went with Boyang, 9.25-9.50, +2-3s
Judge 3 favored Shoma, 9.50-10.00, +2-3s
Judge 1 liked Javier, 9.50-10.00, +2-3s
Judge 8 gave the highest marks of the night to Yuzuru, 9.75-10.00, +3s only!

I only tuned in for the last group but Tara, Johnny and Terry did a great job woth what I heard of balancing the talking and allowing the performance to take center stage. So many people complain about them I just wanted to give them a little shout out. The found them fun and insightful and I enjoyed listening to them when they did talk.

Maribelle;197864I wonder if Arutunian is not the best coach for a skater to reach the top. The figure skaters he coaches seem to get pretty high but then they hit a wall. Perhaps Nathan and Ashley could make a coaching change to reach their full potential.[/QUOTE said:
Totally agree. I have thought about a lot, especially in Ashley's case. I am more than sure, that Arutunian is not- and never ever has been- the one who is able to help/build up his skaters mentally/psychologically. As far as his abilities to teach a profound techinique- all the honour to him, but it IS NOT enough. He does not know, how to open both potentials- mental toughness and technical brilliance for his skaters. In difficult moments, when a skater truly needs his encouragement and wise guidance, he is flat to give any. Of course, it depends of skaters personality , too. Though, even a strong person in difficult times needs someone with a clear mind , and wise advice; directions where "to settle the ship". Arutunian is the one, at the same time- all the honour to him for doing all the best he can.

I thought the scoring was pretty spot-on for this event.
The "going crazy" with inflated scores can only lead to an anti-climatic free-skate. There is never a "right" time for judges to do that, and it shouldn't be done.
Here, everyone has just about the right gap relative to the others; the position that they earned is clearly established and quite fair, while at the same time it still remains very much a real competition for all of the top 5 -- as it should be, since all performed to the top standard.
Yuzuru should have the clear lead, as he does, but should not have any huge gap allowing for an easy victory with a sloppy LP. Perfect.

I have a few issues with the PCS scoring of the men who aren't in contention for medals but no major issues. But, in general, well scored event. The reason that Yuzuru did not get the WR here is because he was overscored in Autumn Classic International. This was fair scoring.

Incidenatally did people read the article this week in NYT about Adam and his body image issues? Rafael actually had a quote in the article about "well I have to figure out how to get an elephant to jump." He admitted he realized his comments about weight were not good for the skaters and seems to have reformed. But I could not believe the quote about the elephants. And yet for it to be printed in the NYT - not even say it in private or think it but to say that out loud to a journalist.

Well, final flight is obviously on everyone’s mind, but....

Julian missing the cut off:sad21:

Deniss scoring lower than I would like to see:sad21:

Misha about where he should be however:)

Just needed to put that out there....

All the top men are inconsistent long program skaters, of them, he's relatively consistent. And I don't blame any of them for it, they're doing a ridiculous amount of technical content.

Regarding the consistency of FS at this point,

1. Boyang
2. Yuzu
3. Shoma/Javier

:shocked:So so exciting. It is amazing the arsenal Boyang, Shoma, Javier and Yuzuru have and such determination to land those jumps. But it is clear there is a tie between quads or tes and pcs. This is compounded by there being so little difference between pc scores. I almost would expect 8 goingto boyang and Shoma instead Keegan and yan are getting 8s So there is so little differentiation. Which means pcs aren't worth that much look Chan shouldbe significantly even ten points ahead of Boyang in pcs but he barely edged him and a quarter of a the value of a quad pushes Boyang past Chan. Yan is quite a beautifulskater but he skated soearly and his tech is not high enough so he and Ten who are more extrordinary pcs skaters thansay Boyang or Shoma aresignificanlty lower. Cray Cray.

A horrible skate, well disasterous skate like Nathan's would be absolutely horrific and he wouldn't make it to the fs. But wiht COP you get so many points forerrors on quads and can make up points in the freeskate he still has a medal shot and he definitely can easily move up ten spots to pass Adam and Patrick - one jump and it is all over for Chan and Rippon.

But no use complaining - good bad or in different that's kating now.

It will be an interesting freeskate. Hanyu really had that yuna kim thinggoing on. he may have not competed for a whie but he is ready.

If only Boyang could steal Han Yan's skating skills. If only ... *sigh*

I think this is underselling Boyang. No, he doesn't have the current top three's, or Chan's or Han's skating skills, but SS are judged for a program. His SP this time around, and also the previous one allowed him to show the skills he does have really well.

That, and he seems to get better everytime he skates. And he has good skating skills! Not phenomenal, but good!
