2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens FS

Totally impressed with Hanyu but I wonder if the injury allowed him to take some of the pressure of himself. I.e. expectation wise. Not from fans but knowing I am not going to be my best not going to be able to out jump folks. I may not have great endurance so I will just grit out best I can come what may. I think everyone in Japan knew he was injured too and he would have been treated like warrior regardless of result.

Don't get me wrong don't wish what he endured this season on anyone.

Yuzuru said in an interview that he wouldn't have won if his competitors would have skated their best. He knew very well.

Hanyu stated here: https://tadakixd.tumblr.com/post/170837340465/hanyu-yuzuru-press-conference-13218

I have within myself the confidence that if I skate cleanly I’ll definitely win. I really think like that. In order to skate cleanly, what should I put in that program…is something that I want to decide on as I continue to improve my condition

You'd just be getting another Johnny

I don't think so. Adam seems to be a lot more respectful to the skaters than Johnny, and I think his commentary would reflect that. Of course I don't remember how Johnny treated the skaters beneath him. Adam doesn't have the freaking Russian obsession that Johnny has either. I get tired of hearing about the Russians and how great they are. Or course some are, but Johnny's like obsessive about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Nathan, had his SP been even remotely clean, maybe with 1 fall, have won the GM here?

:palmf: Oh, sis/bro haven't you read the last 50 pages?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Yuzuru, had landed his planned 4T-1Lo-3S, have won even the free against Nathan?

Replace him with Adam!!!!!! And replace Tara with someone who doesn't scream. Tanith Belbin would be great. I'm tempted to start a petition to NBC.

I hope the children at the hospitals in South Korea really love Pooh.

After watching some of the other events with judged scoring, I'm actually grateful for how they try very hard to explain how the judging works. A lot of the events have used terms I have no idea what they mean and don't try to explain.

My 73 year old "I love that little Spaniard" mother is super excited Javi won bronze.

About Nathan : that would be if, and only if, he would have actually skated the exact same free skate he skated today. Which, from Nathan's own admission, was a tall order. He was able to skate much better in the free because all the pressure he had on him for the short disappeared after he bombed.

Nathan has yet to prove he can handle the pressure of the last group both in the short and in the free consecutively in big competitions. Compared to Shoma and Boyang (as they're the same "generation") he hasn't proved it yet. He's still young though, it'll come (at least I hope for him).

I'm curious about what kind of commentator Adam could be ! I hope he gets the chance to try after he retires.

Shhhh, what ifs only function when it comes to speculating about Nathan winning. No one else is allowed to have what ifs too.

NBC could use him on "lesser" contests like they do Tanith Belbin, etc.

John Coughlin is my favorite commentator, after Dick Button who rules all.

I know others have said this, but send him to Brian Orser!

Yes, he would have won. Nathan was the biggest threat for the OGM medal. The nerves just got the best of him for the SP. But hey he'll get it in the 2022!

Also, the FS turned out to be the miracle I was hoping for. I am not disappointed.

Fernandez/Uno were much bigger threats.

I said it back then that Fernandez/Uno>>>Chen and I was correct.

In the what-if world, Fernandez would've also gone clean.

But it's a fact that if Nathan skated his 100+ SP and the same quality FS, he would have won OGM...

I know that many people say he was "only able to do it because he bombed the SP" but everything is speculative. If he could do it now, he can theoretically do it in a universe with a slightly different set of events, too.

I finally caught up to the complete circlejerk this thread became and want to roll my eyes, so I'm just going to say that my dream podium came true and I am ecstatic. Yuzuru did it, like that, off an injury that still plagues him. Shoma and Javi were fantastic too and the three of them made for the absolutely cutest, most heartwarming interactions. And I admire Nathan for his great redemption. I'm sure this will help him build confidence for the future.

Why does IF only apply to Chen?

IF Chen skated his SP, then in the same universe Hanyu would also skate his planned 5 quad program and Fernandez would skate cleanly so those two would still win by a large margin. We are talking speculatives here after all.

Doesn't seem like alot of ppl here took formal logic classes. You can't cherry pick factors and set up a straw man scenario.

it's also a fact had Hanyu not injured his ankle and did not miss his combo he would have won the free skate as well lol

The point is American media and sorry, many Americans are under an illusion that had Nathan Chen skated clean he must have won. But they totally do not register that Had Yuzuru Hanyu, Javier Fernandez, Shoma Uno... slated totally clean they all can beat a clean Nathan, period.
