2018 Olympic Figure Skating Free Dance

For me, Lorenz and Polizoakis were the revelation. Beautiful costumes and movement, excellent interpretation of the music.

Penny Coomes seemed to be working really hard to get through that program. I don't think it was the best vehicle for her team.

Gilles & Poirier are often among my favorite teams to watch, but this performance was not enjoyable for me. Her costume covered her legs too much, which made it hard to see her lines and took away from the impact of the final lift. Also, a yellow costume on a blonde person without really tan skin just doesn't show up well on ice. Most significantly, though, Piper seemed really slow and labored.

I loved "Je Suis Malade" back in 2012, but I don't think it was effective for Weaver and Poje here. I'm not sure if I just didn't pay attention to the music in '11-'12, but I did not like the instrumental bits nor the editing of this version (whether it's the same or not).

The Shibutanis skated very well, though I was a bit distracted by strands of Maia's hair being in front on her face!

Papadakis and Cizeron are incredible skaters and performers, but I echo comments that have often been posted earlier in the season about the presto agitato part of the program. It's not necessary to be lightning fast throughout that cut of the music, but for the most part neither their speed NOR their movements fit the music. Really a glaring weakness compared to the rest of the program.

Virtue and Moir always impress me. I credit them for attacking and pulling off their elements. I gather from some things I've read here that they are done with the competitive world. Well, I admit to groaning when I read they were going to use "Moulin Rouge." I liked the movie and soundtrack, but the songs have been recycled so much in the skating world that I want to roll my eyes at any person who selects them. In spite of that, Virtue and Moir wowed me with their first, then their second, and all of their competitive performances of this free skate. They're so good that one can click "The People's Court" theme song, "Highway to Hell", a Chopin nocturne- anything on a playlist- and they will do it justice and interest me. Truly a special couple.

I'm just looking at the protocols now ... did anyone notice the scores given to V/M and P/C by the POL judge??

... I D E N T I C A L !!
:points:

I guess the POL judge didn't want to upset either the FRA or CAD federation ... as she gave the identical scores to both teams for every PCS category, and also awarded identical GOE marks for every program element!

It's really easy to see if you open up the links below in separate tabs, and then click back and forth between them — your eye will go right to judge #4 (POL)!

What a skate by Tessa and Scott. Should have totally won the FD as well...Judges did everything to give the gold to P/C

But LOL V/M getting lower PCS even after that crowd response.[/QUOTE]

Judges still were trying their best to give the gold to P/C. No way did they deserve higher PCS marks. BS on that. Congrats VM

Congratulations, V/M, P/C, S/S!!:yahoo:
I love all the podium finishers.
Especially happy for V/M. What a perfect closure for their wonderful career.
Not the best experience for P/C, but I have no doubt they will reign long long time from now on, so...:)

Oh, somebody said something about Gabby's nose? Personally I love her nose. It makes her look like a Greek goddess.

Great from Piper and Paul!!! But had to watch on small screen bc NBCSN and NBC both skipped it.

They skipped Piper & Paul? That is totally horrible! I just caught up on their FD. Piper and Paul were sublime! The new costumes were gorgeous! Glad they did so well! So proud of them.

I just glanced at the protocols and have a question to ask you ladies/gents: Do P/C have superior skating skills than V/M? I am a bit confused at P/C beating V/M in that category for both the SD and FD.
No they don't. The pcs for the SD was a total joke. Judges desperately tried their best to give it to P/C but couldn't bring VM score so low after the amazing performances. Tessa and Scott should have won the FD and PCS tonight, no doubt at all

V/M thoroughly deserve their win but I wonder if the audience reaction wasn't so big would the judges have gone with them. And tbh V/M have a bigger fan base and a more devoted one as they come from a bigger figure skating country than P/C so they're bound to get a bigger cheer. You could hear the difference in support when they were introduced.

VM should have won the FD as well

V/M won.

P/C gave a sublime performance in a totally different style than the crowd-pleasing and electric V/M.

The only judge that low-balled P/C was the Canadian judge, who is also an official in the Canadian Fed (correct me if I'm wrong about that).

And... some people are still going on with conspiracy theories? Just... why? [emoji53][emoji22]

considering how the French were gifted, yes gifted with that ridiculous score for that hot mess of a program I have no issues with VM score, should be at least 3 pts higher

Should have won the FD....

Yes Haikush ... you've made your opinion on the matter absolutely crystal clear by repeating it almost verbatim in
  • 5 of 5 posts (...so far) today, February 20 (in relation to the free dance results from last night);
  • 11 of 11 posts yesterday, February 19 (in relation to the short dance results from Feb. 18); and in
  • 11 of 13 posts on February 18 (in relation to the short dance results from that night).

In the spirit of full disclosure & transparency:
  • Your first 6 posts (also from February 18) were NOT about Ice Dance; and were made in regards to:
    • The Mens FP event (n=5); and
    • Perceived T/M bashing (n=1).

However, as of the date & time of the writing this post (February 20, 04h00 EST), you've made a grand total of 35 posts on GoldenSkate; and in 27 of those 35 total posts, you've parroted the same "V/M should have beat P/C" message. You're either a paid shill, or else need to take a Valium.

Please stop with the repeated messaging. We all know your opinion on the matter!

Regards,
sow.

Yes, yes, yes!!! That was phenomenal by Tessa and Scott!!! My heart is still racing. I hope that the judges go with them!!!

My heart was literally palpitating as they were skating and then when we had to wait for scores ... I guess strong coffee & adrenaline rush of olympic emotions results in that!

Bitterness and resentment often have that effect on the stomach :dev2:

It's not that so much - it's just that V/M come across as so arrogant in comparison with the others. I get the feeling that Moir would have spontaneously combusted if he hadn't got his precious gold.

Sure, I am a little sad that the French didn't get gold - V/M already have Olympic gold from 2010, not to mention a team gold from this one. I just prefer the French's style as opposed to in-your-face aren't-we-brilliant acrobatics.
