Evgenia Medvedeva

How you can consider it as something bad? 0_0 The more, the better - the merrier. What I find sad though is the fact that in other countries except Russia aren't many strong enough skating ladies to make healthy rivalry between countries. Especially in juniors.

Well, for the individual skater it might be a short time at the top.

The problem is talents distribution, yeah, like there're only limited spots for competitions and some good ladies left home because their country quota is filled while another country can only have like one real contender but more spots so ladies with very very low scores end up filling in.

Interview with Evgenia's grandmother! Valentina, she traveled to Korea, but she has not had contact with Zhenya because she doesn't want to distract her. She talks about Zhenya, many curious facts: Zhenya learned to read at two years old! wow, she reads a lot and likes mathematics (a genius? hahahaha). Zhenya's grandmother LOVES JAPAN, and Jeanne, Evgenia's mother, works in the animation industry, she has always drawn. she says that diligence is always cultivated in the family, there are no words of pride, the motto is "You act, do what you should do"

A family of strong and smart ppl :luv17:

Oh, her grandmother looks so much like her mother Zhanna:

Good luck to Zhenya in the free skate tonight. It would be pretty incredible if she won the gold medal after recovering from an injury, just like Yuzu had done so, but regardless of the result she's still going to be the very epitome of a champion.

Thank you for the warm thoughts on Zhenya's part . The free skate is tomorrow though.

Saw this in another thread

If Yuzu can go from 5th/6th to win worlds and Aljona and Bruno can go from 4th (nearly 6 points behind in SP!!) and then win the OGM, I think there is still plenty chance for Evgenia to win the gold, she just can't give up yet.

I kind of didn’t want to post this, but I figured that I might as well let it all out. Don’t hate me for this!

Truth be told, a huge part of the reason why I wanted Zhenya to win this thing so badly was because I honestly think that she won’t get the chance to go to the Olympics again. Before you shoot me for being negative, look at the ladies’ field in Russia. Incredibly deep, and these girls are training things that our Zhenya frankly can’t do. Quads, triple axels...as far as we know, she hasn’t been able to actually do these in her practice yet (speculation is not confirmation). Zhenya gets by on her PCS and high GOEs more than anything. Could she theoretically learn how to do these things? Yes, but we can’t put our money on it, because there’s a high chance that she won’t be able to. 3 spots in each division for each country. In 4 years, this sport is going to be completely different than it is now. I mean, look at the difference between Sochi and Pyeongchang!

Obviously, I think Evgenia absolutely deserves and should be able to go. Unfortunately, the judging is so out of whack nowadays with all the PCS inflation that unless she somehow magically acquires a bunch of quads and a triple axel, she’s out of luck...the newer little Russian girls will no doubt see crazy PCS rises due to their tech content, and there will be a large amount of people like Alina soon. I know that this has worked to Zhenya’s advantage in the past. I know that she herself had a rapid PCS rise but it wasn’t anywhere near the extent of Alina’s.

Zhenya’s time of dominance is up, and we have to get used to her not winning all the time now. It really sucks because if it were up to me she’d be at the top for her entire career! Like Yatagarasu said, RusFed has dropped our little bear. At this point, no matter how well she does, if they don’t want to back her up there’s literally nothing that can be done about it.

I’m not saying this to be all dramatic and to bring everyone down. It’s a realistic outlook (I know everyone wants to be all positive and whatnot but the elephant in the room seriously needs to be addressed), but I want to clarify that I WOULD BE INCREDIBLY HAPPY TO BE PROVEN WRONG. But I’m tired of pretending everything is much better than it actually is. The new ones are always going to upstage the “old” (she’s 18 ahdnfkbldbgk I hate this) ones, that’s the way life works. Even people like Yuzuru are going to be surpassed one day.

I don’t want to hear anyone say “Why don’t you have faith in Zhenya?!11!?!!” because I do. I have 100% confidence that she’s going to perform to the very best of her ability, and that she’s going to make me extremely proud. It’s the judges and the way things are set up now that I don’t trust. Unless it changes, we’re out of luck.

I’m not going to watch the event or even look at the results. I’ve got exams coming up, and I don’t want to spend this time being bitter and upset! I especially don’t want to take anything out on Alina, either, because it’s not her fault and wishing for her to fall would make me feel disgusted with myself. No matter what though, Evgenia will always be a winner to me, and I’m so incredibly thankful that I came to know of her existence because she really brings some much-needed happiness into my life. ❤️

Oh my goodness, are you actually me??
you articulated that so well. that's exactly what I was thinking too!

I don' t think the Russian Fed dropped her.
An interesting analysis of the scores: https://www.instagram.com/p/BfdItwanOps/?taken-by=julbka_
It seems that the Russian, Kaz and Lat judges saw her on first.

Not when you look back at euro ;).
No I don't think rusfed "drops" her yet, the judges dropped her for sure and rusfed wouldnt care less as long as they have their medals count.
Of course that doesnt change the fact that they will when the time comes.

@Astudyofmemory : everything i thought too TT_TT. Props to ya.

Btw her tendonitis ends yet?

Alina and Zhenya are basically tied. Yes Alina has the momentum but she is only 15. Zhenya skates last so she will know what she needs to do.

I think Osmond skates between Alina and Zhenya. Wow that's tough.

It really should be Zhenya's time. But Alina is in good form after europeans. Both are great girls. I hope Zhenya wins but would be happy for Alina too. It must be a weird feeling for Zhenya she is the leader Alina looks up to her and idolizes her and may beat her. Amazing. Who is their coach really rooting for? ;) I think we all know. Zhenya!

Pls end this coach favoring bs you have no solid proof!

Honeslty, even tho Zhenya isn’t as dominant anymore, I’ve come to respect a lot her this season. She won’t let Alina eat into her head, and will still fight for every win, even when most of the other girls in Russia would just crumble under the pesssure. She’s made of steel, and I wish my house was supported by it, she NEVER gives up, and reminds me of the mentality of some of my favorite skaters.

This. But this is also what makes me so sad especially about the ladies field in Russia. Who knows in 4 years some of the juniors that we think will be dominant might not even be at the Olympics in Beijing (Radionova being close to an example). We really need more skaters like Caro Kostner who continue to improve and show their artistry and love for skating throughout many years and not just on who can jampack the most quads and most triples in 2 minutes. I think the ladies field could really learn a thing or two from ice dancing and pairs, or even the men's (Yuzu back to back is crazy but look at Javi coming back strong). Don't know what Zhenya will do in the future but I hope she at least goes out with a bang. )I don't want this to become Michelle Kwan 2.0.)

I couldn't disagree more. Cup of Russia winners Scherbakova and (most probable today's winner) Kostornaia are very good technically, of course, but it's their artistry where they truly excel.
At Junior Grand Prix final, the only one who was jumping 3A was Rika Kihira and she was 4th behind Eteri's girls, who obviously don't need crazy jumps to be ahead of everyone...

I think she deserves it but if Alina outperforms her then I'm good with that. I want to see them 1 - 2. It's been a disastrous olympics for Russia they need these great girls to lift the country up tomorrow night and I hope they do. They have so much pressure on them and many in the media like that hack Christine Brennan are against them and they do not hide it. I also hope these 2 don't get tired in the LP like Yulia did 4 years ago. The team competition took alot out of her.

Good luck Zhenya.
Brennan is nothing but a gossipmonger, always trying to create controversy...she is one of those...ugh
