2018 Olympic Figure Skating Ladies FS

I think that this will spark a change with the whole 10% bonus rule. Probably going to limit it to two or three jumps.

It's Elaine Zayak all over again.

Man 3 really great individual events with some superb endings in each.. this one just made everyone cry

She does do the hardest triple-triple combination though.

And you don't learn them out of nowhere, I don't disagree with that. They're still hard, but my point is that they're considerably easier to do when you're younger and as your body changes as you get older you have to relearn your balance and etc and perhaps the jumps disappear.

What I was trying to say that we probably have zero clue who the next podium winners are. It'll likely be some 15 year old that comes out of nowhere like 1 season before 2022.
Perhaps the jumps disappear, but you don't get them out of nowhere.

Well, I guess someone like Mirai Nagasu is the exception(Though it's 3A in her case), but for quads and jumps in general, if you don't learn them well before puberty you're not going to be able to do them post-puberty either.

I'm just... heartbroken...

I was expecting this results, but with some errors from Evgenia, something that could justify this...

Can someone who watched Russian feed confirm that, but apparently TAT started crying during Medvedeva's performance and said she wanted Med to win and then apologised to Alina? Damn.

Ugh, this is also why I feel sorry for Alina (and why I suspect she has to hide her tears of joy). Probably most of Russia, esp the serious figure skating fans are rooting for Zhenya. They know her and love her, whereas Alina is still sort of the new kid. It's gotta be tough dethroning the queen. Just like if Shoma beat Yuzuru at Olympics, I guarantee you the Yuzu fans (including myself) would be out for blood... I hope Alina's team, and her fellow Russians celebrate her victory appropriately and don't deny her moment in the glory just because they are upset for Zhenya. That wouldn't be fair for Alina either.

I agree with that, I just think that on balance they're probably gonna disappear post-puberty. And it'll be triple lutz - triple loop combos still for the ladies unless we get like another Zagitova-esque figure.

I just realized....Both Alina and Evgenia got 156.65 for their FS
HAHA LET THAT SINK IN... 156.65!!

The person deserve to win an Olympic Gold Medal today is Eteri to be honest!!
Too smart!! She did have some help from her federation Vice President Alexander Lakernik though. Must be nice to be told what to train your skater for and mold them at a young age before everyone else had a chance.

===========

Feel bad for Kaetlyn, if the PCS is not so crazy with majority European Judge panel last couple of years, she could have won this OGM or at least managed a Silver. Too bad! Her jump quality today was excellent, best she ever skated...

Okay, I get that Alina is just using the system to her advantage and there's nothing inherently immoral about that. Congratulations on her win.
But I don't know how you could look at this event and not see what a sad twist ladies' figure skating has taken. Both Alina and Evgenia have cluttered programs and less than perfect artistry, but Evgenia is clearly the more musical skater and she lost to Alina's program which honestly, is void of any artistic integrity.
Also, let's talk about how this isn't happening to the same absurdity in the other events. The podiums for the men, pairs, and ice dance were so well balanced: artistic and so exciting technically.

Eteri and Med were the two that turned ladies FS that way. Now they've just lost control of the monster they unleashed.

And please, people have been whining about Med's lack of artistry and her programs being too "technical" and crammed with stupid mime movements for the last 3 years. Now that she's lost, everyone's trying to rewrite the narrative into Med being an amazing artist who wuzrobbed.

Med got beaten at her own game, that's what happened.

I guess it wouldn't be so sad if not for the fact that ladies skating moves so fast that it seems very unlikely Med will get another shot at gold.

But them's the breaks I guess?

Alina showed nerves of steel and deserves the greatest praise!
So does Zhenya, Russia rulez! :clapper:

If only Alina got 73 in pcs, Evgenia would have won.

I really don't understand judge fetish with young girls in ladies skating, they are willing to go with veteran in other discipline but in ladies they always prefer younger fresher girls: Tara, Sarah, Adelina......

Medvedeva has been overscored for years and now she's got a taste of her own medicine (Sorry if that phrase sounds wrong or too mean, what I'm trying to say is I know the judging is not her fault but she's certainly benefited from it unfairly). She still got Silver over ladies who were more deserving of PCs and who also executed jumps better, so I don't really feel sorry for her. The judging is not her fault but well, it's unfair and insulting to her to say she deserved Gold just out of pity. Her repetitive miming and flutzes shouldn't win OGM against Alina's clear technical superiority- (though I still believe the latter was also overscored in PCs).

Anyway, an OSM is still a very impressive feat and both girls worked extremely hard. I admire both of them for their mental strength and nerves of steel.

I am sure I saw an edge change and two footing on her lutz but Evgenia
got full credit... ???!!!

"I did absolutely everything I could."
-Zhenya to Eteri

I'm just. I'm just so mad. I'm so mad because you're world champion for two years and you miss one competition, and you're finished. You work on artistry, and they hand the same PCS to someone fresh out of juniors. It's infuriating. It's painful. It's sad.

IJS might have helped push the tech, but it's also stifled art.
I'm heartbroken. But I'm also furious.

You're not alone.

They usually give it to the superior technical skater at the Olympics. This forum would've probably melted down, but they would've given a clean Nathan the OGM over a clean Hanyu or Javi imo (justified or not).
