2018 Olympic Figure Skating Ladies FS

Did anyone see Alina or Evgenia acknowledge Kaetlyn at all before the venue ceremony? In the other events gold silver and bronze were all hugging and seemed very friendly with each other. The Russians left Kaetlyn out it seems.

But it's possible that she herself will try and learn to perform a quad. Although of course, trying and doing are different things, especially for the quads. I find it difficult to believe she could still learn a quad at her age but of course, I'll be happy if I end up being proven wrong.

I do think that Medvedeva was perhaps feeling overly safe and didn't push her limits technically enough. Adding extra 3Ts to everything really isn't that useful.

Like somebody else wrote: Evgenia only missed one competition and tables turned. She beat clean Zagi at the Japan Open at the beginning iof the season comfortably with a 10+ PCS margin.

We can argue about who should have won tonight, but I sure hope Zagitova is not subjected to the harassment and hateful remarks that Sotnikova received after the Olympics. I don't think she will be, but figure skating seems to draw very passionate and opinionated fans...

The podium place getters in 2006 were all in their 20s :)

Well yeah...except I'm pretty sure the landscape of women's figure skating didn't change nearly as much between 2002 and 2006 as say 2014 and now.

Unless rules change it seems really unlikely a woman in her 20s could win gold at 2022 unless she had triple axel or could somehow backload everything (easier said than done!)

I wonder when we're going to get a non-teen Olympic Gold medal winner? The Women's event seems like such a teen-only thing, with "bursts" of brilliance from the oldies every once in a while.

Yuna was 23! ;)

I doubt that. They're from the same country and well, Medvedeva probably had more haters anyway.

Unless they think that Osmond should have won, but Zagitova actually does have the strong technical content and no flutz which really doesn't leave much room for arguing.

Very sad and strange competition (in the final two flights that I watched). Thrilling to watch the two Russian ladies who epitomize the competitive spirit of the Olympics, but a little sad that ladies skating has been reduced to a competition of who can put most jumps in the second half of the program.

--I was sad to see Medvedeva lose, as I think her spirit and integrity are hard not root for, and I tend to root for the "veterans," but giving her the win would have meant giving her perfect 10's across the board in some of her component marks, and she just is nowhere near that
--Kaetlyn Osmond had the performance of the night for me. If she had been more consistent all season, she could have been in conversation for silver at least
--The US Ladies were a disaster. It reinforced my belief that they should have sent Ashley Wagner. If you have no medal contenders and no real stars, why not send someone who can have an Adam Rippon like trajectory while finishing out of the top 5? Hope Ashley is drinking wine tonight and saying "I told you so" to anyone who will listen.

Ashley really did get the last laugh. I love it.

My heart is BREAKING for Evgenia.

But Alina trying not to sob even though you can tell she's crying, and playing it so cool when she realizes she's won gold is almost sad in a way. Why does it make me feel sad?

Eteri’s reactions towards Zagitova makes me :console::console: the latter. The smile she had when she realized she had won, the tears of joy, trying to tame them, because she knew she was not “supposed” to win this year, that she is not the loved one. Eteri got caught in her plan because Zagitova was not the most natural in her group but rose in the end. Zagitova is the bad child of the family that gets blamed for the small error but still gets her revenge. I am happy for Zagitova on a personal level. Skating wise, she delivered the technical content but you could see she was in advance on her music and her moves didn’t fit the main notrs of the music.

Wait what am I missing here? Why does Eteri hate Alina (her own skater) and who is Zhenya?!?!

Sometimes Eteri seems less than pleased when Alina does well as opposed to when Evgenia (Zhenya) does, so there's a line of thinking that Eteri doesn't like her as much (I'm sure she doesn't hate her!)

Reminds me a bit of Plushy and Yags when they were both training with Mishin, Mishin clearly preferred Plushy - and didn't Yags know it! In fact that was part of the reason Yags left.

I'm not sure if Alina would do the same because Eteri's coaching seems to work for her so...
