I really like Young, but urgh. I can't stand another Pirates-program.

I knew it beforehand, but even if I did not, I would totally think that this was Akiko's work . Heck, I totally see Yuhana rock Kill Bill hommage program made by Akiko!

I just wish USFSA and fans would let skaters develop and grow rather than pouncing on "the next big thing" all the time. Ting is lovely, I'd love to watch her grow and blossom, but i fear her getting "the crown" of sorts of our next hope or next savior. I think it is too much pressure too soon and am rather cynical about it. I would rather celebrate what Ting did today, rather than think about what she might do tomorrow. I don't want to see another young lady somewhat rushed to the top. I am ok with USA ladies peaking at a later age.

She handled the pressure very well here... I just don't want USFSA to dump more on her. This is the time to develop her skating, not market it.

So apparently according to Jackie Wong, Ting's 3Lutz 1/2 Loop wasn't counted as a combo, because of a rule change that says the 1/2 loop won't count as a combo if you are able to do it successfully later on in the program. Because of that, the 3Flip-2Toe was counted, which is why the tech score jumped up at the end.

The weird thing is that if you don't tack on a 3 jump combo later on, the 1/2 Loop still counts as a combo...

Thanks for the explanation. That's better. Give the skater the benefit of doubt.

She performed? Looked like just crossovers from element to element to me. Very rarely did I feel like she was actually into it.

Replays are not kind to her jumps... she has to work on her rotations because I saw quite a few jumps were borderline.

She performed? Looked like just crossovers from element to element to me. Very rarely did I feel like she was actually into it.

I thought the opening with the waves and the portrayal of a bound pirate was interesting. She also had little moments like pretending to cover her eyes and look over the ocean that were charming.
