2018 Worlds Ladies FS

Has there ever been a World Champion that was as basic as Kaetlyn?

She really doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table.

Has there ever been an assessment of a World Champion as acidic as this one?

Osmond has speed, bigger jumps than many (arguably most) World champions prior to her and possesses wonderful performance ability and charm on the ice.

You might not see it, which is fine, it's your opinion. You do you, boo. But she's got the golden skates and gold medal to prove it.

THIS. While I think Zagitova is overscored as heck in PCS, I still understand that her speed, power, consistency (usually), jumping ability is world class and what is driving the PCS up.

Just because you may not like a skater, doesn't mean they bring nothing to the table.

For Example: I dreaded watching Slutskaya. Tacky and lacking some skating skills is not fun to watch, IMO. But no one could deny that she had a certain charisma (which she learned to use much better as she got older), power, and speed.

She's just too basic for comfort. Had she been from a smaller federation, I doubt she would have been successful. But this is what you get, big federations pushing their skaters.

And yes, she works hard, she trains hard, no one is denying that. But she is nowhere near being a real talent, she is still raw and unpolished.

I honestly can't recall a more boring, blah skater winning Worlds. She reminds me of Jennifer Robinson and the likes.

Lol, okay there.

You have your opinion.

And Osmond has her World gold, silver and 3 Olympic medals. Which ain't bad for "nowhere near a real talent". :laugh2:

It's all good.

As usual the same people only look at things on paper and show no ability whatsoever to judge things when it does not benefit their home country.

Trying to back up your argument by stating the superficial medals that Osmond was handed is not any argument at all. It's like trying to brag about how much money straight white men make in comparison to people of color and women, without realizing the historical reasons for why straight white men have been unfairly given an advantage over others in society. Osmond's title here was because of unfair inflation of her scores, thanks to the politics of a powerful federation. 2 of her Olympic medals were also because of being part of a much stronger group; she was a weak link in the Team event at both Olympics where she was given a Team medal.

Kaetlyn is celebrating tonight...All of Canada is celebrating.. She’s the talk of the country. Everywhere you go, news media, social media, billboards..everyone is celebratin Kaetlyn’s Gold medal as World Champion. Just imagine, a small town girl with no big Federation backing her. I don’t think for one second that she is fretting over what vavavoom is saying about her. Now that’s a big LOL. 🤣😂

Really? You two are trolls right? You certainly aren't fans of the sport, only of certain skaters.

I'm very sorry for Alina.
So, so far, is Yagudin still the only one winning GP Final, Euros, Olympics and Worlds in the same saeson?

Seems so, Yagudin won everything and I believe he was Not 15...
So all the talk on Alina: she had a huge year, a day off happens. I’m totally protective on a 15 years old and I cannot but wish her all the best, good rest and taking care of herself, as for her team to take decisions in her only and best interests for the years to come...
As for her program: Seeing it live I have to tell you, it’s really interesting: the first part has the ballet concepts with finished movements (differently from the SP in which there is too much) and the last part with jumps and with a tempo that is insane... It’ clear that this is the most difficult senior program of the year ! And the taken risks are insane...and no time for recovery if something goes wrong... so yes, as someone said, she has to be 100% on to perform it well. Yesterday she skated at 10PM, you put together the less energy she got, maybe a day off and that’s it.
A word for the public : great public, wonderful, totally supporting her during all the performance ...

It’s also more Olympic medals than anyone currently competing!

I’m editing to add in ladies** since I know how salty some people get.

And yet she's been recognized as one of the best skaters around by analysts of the sport from all over the world.

One of the best of the CURRENT crop of competitors maybe, but that doesn't mean she deserves the inflated scores she receives, nor does it mean her mistakes and her lacking qualities should be overlooked. It also doesn't mean she should be scoring way higher than other people when she doesn't even skate clean, as compared to others who skate clean with more difficult programs and great performances.

Also, some of the so called analysts have plenty of agendas or misconceptions of their own, and when you are pushed into the spotlight by a strong federation that inherently means more people are going to be talking about you and pointing out your good qualities. Wakaba Higuchi has strong qualities of her own and deserves fair assessment in comparison.

Cindy maybe you are new here but what I've commented on isn't new. It happens every time a Canadian skater is successful. Another recent example is after the Team Event.

It's cool to share your thoughts on how to improve skating. Or suggest improvements for a skater. That's what constructive criticism is all about. It gets dull after a while when one nationality is singled out and commented upon negatively repeatedly.

I joined this forum partly because of this kind of situation.

I would not say anything if the posters who go about this were dealt with as Canadian posters who step out of line are. Myself included. But even after consultations it doesn't seem to be happening.

Being a bystander is no better than being a bully. Which is why I speak up.

I will continue to celebrate the successes of the ladies who competed here. This was a monumental event for Japanese ladies and should be a positive omen for next season.

What the... you just compared a Canadian skater's accolades to how much money rich, white privileged people make?!

I suppose if the Russians won or Japanese won or Americans won we can simply trivialize those wins/medals as merely being from prominent federations. It's not like these skaters are training hard or landing their jumps to get these results. :rolleye:

Osmond is the first Canadian gold ladies medalist at Worlds in 45 years... if there was systemic privilege that Canadian skaters were benefiting from wouldn't they have more to show for it? The reality is Canadian women have had some bright spots (Manley, Rochette) but only recently been a "powerhouse" thanks to the hard work of Osmond and Daleman. So instead of a lame attempt to crash our party at this achievement, maybe given some credit where it's due.

But hey you're entitled to think what you think. It's salty reactions that make Osmond's victory that much more sweeter.

Basically, you discount the opinion of anybody who doesn't agree with you (in this case, the general consensus) on the basis that they're improperly biased or misinformed.

If this is politics, why is Kaetlyn the first Canadian World Champion in this event in 45 years? Indeed, she's one of only four Canadian women to medal at Worlds in the last 45 years.:rolleye:

And Japan is not a rinky-dink federation either, you know. Indeed, they win far more medals in this category than we do.

misconceptions indeed🤔.

Not every acknowledges analysts. Or judges. Or results. Unless of course said people/scores are 100% in line with their opinions. As mentioned, Osmond could care less about those who are bitter about her success or make futile, inconsequential attempts to trivialize it.

Millie, our girl did incredible just as she has all of this season, never missing a podium in any of her comps. She constantly learned/improved and peaked at the right moments, going 150 plus in her last 2 LP's of the season, and confirming my GS 1st place prediction ;). Please check, as some here have said, "who would have ever thought?" She showed the world what grace is under pressure, from skating last and winning a silver medal in 2017, and now skating first and winning a Gold in 2018. In between winning 2 Olympic medals, because she was bored?

In addition to finishing this comp. 13 points ahead of the next competitor, she is the most decorated Olympic skater in her discipline of her skating generation. Beyond being a Champion, her legacy will include Kaetlyn's eternal grace and joy as examples for all athlete and true fans of this sport.

Millie, never let a troll that shows up twice a year to bash and trash, steal your joy, while other traditional naysayers, anxiously support.

Giv' er!
