US Nationals - What are your thoughts?

I think pairs will be interesting this year for the third spot. Rena and John should win but I think there are others waiting in the wings to show their stuff. I love the new seniors Vlassov and Meekins and Moyle and Seitz.

Is it Vlassov and Meekins that have been attempting the throw quad sal on the GP this season? Any news on how that's going? That really is quite spectacular really - the US has not been particularly marked for the technical prowess of its pairs yet this US nationals will see at least an attempt at the throw triple axel in both SP and LP by one pair and an attempt at a throw quad sal in the LP by another!

Ant

Meissner definetely winning. Weir probably will meltdown, but I think he's going to show up hungry and win.

This is probably the weakest Nationals in years.

I wish Rohene would have made the cut :frown:

Tiffany Vise/Derek Trent. They've landed the throw quad sal in practices (including at Skate America and Canada) and tried it in their FS at Midwestern Sectionals back in November (underrotated/fall).

definately nationals are a wide open up there this year!

Ladies with no Michelle Kwan or Sasha Cohen I think that there's a chance there for someone else to win, Kimmie I think will most likely do it being the defending World Champion, she's my favorite so yeah!

Men, if Johnny and Evan decide to compete their one two in some order or another, don't know which will be first and which will be second, but I really want Evan to win, because despite 2 world Bronze Medals, he has never won the US National Title, and Weir has never won a world medal and has 3 US National titles!

Pair: Inoe and Baldwin, but with Orcher and Lucash and Hinzmann and Parchem no longer on the scene who's going to be second and third, I think that Naomi Nari Nam and Themi Leftheris will be second but third is a way open up there for a first timer to medal.

Dance: If Belbin and Agosto do compete it will be them, and then Gregory and Petukhov but with Silverstein and O'mera outside of the eligible scene we'll see who's going to be third, I think that its going to be Matthews&Zavozin.

All the posters seem to be naming the obvious for a win or a decision between 2 top skaters (Weir/Lysacek). Do you not see any upsets?

Joe

I think the 'upsets' will happen MAYBE in dance and then maybe you could get away with one in ladies (though really while Kimmie is World Champ none of the ladies have ever been National champ so it's anyone's ball game)

What if you run into George Clooney while in LA and he wants to whisk you off to his mansion on Lake Como? Will you say NO, just here for figure skating? hmmm.

Joe

Well considering I can't STAND George Clooney and can't figure out the whole 'he's so hot' crazy that everyone around me has I don't think it will be too hard. Somehow I don't think he'd go for a 'religious right-wing nut job' anyway ;)

Now if George Eads and I were to.................. ;)

Toni,
You obviously are suffering from the Alaskian cold... GC is a hottie... even my uber-macho husband understands that one & he can't for the life of him understand the whole Jay-Z / Derek Jeter thing I suffer from (I call it the hotrichmanitiz desease...)

LADIES

come on guys, it's 85% Kimmie, 15% someone sneaking in for an upset. Just maybe the chance of an upset is slightly greater this time around since Kimmie doesn't have much to rely on should she have an off-night (unlike Kwan and Cohen). In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see her in 2nd or 3rd after the short program, but will bet almost anything on a hard comeback to win it all. Everyone else is just so inconsistent that I can't bet on any of them rising to the occasion needed to pull off an upset. If I were to base it on my HOPES I would say Alyssa but my PICK would likely be Hughes.

Also, Kimmie has such a huge jump arsenal that the others simply can't match. If she lands two out of three, I consider it to be over.

um no Ewan McGregor, George Eads, Harrison Ford (well not as much NOW) they are all hotties... not Clooney

oh and all of those new dads (save for Cruise who I have never understood all the attraction to him either) in hollywood (Pitt, Damon, Affleck) something about those guys showing their kids love makes me swoon

Considering that most of the girls only landed one or two triples per competition this season, your probably right.

I just posted an article on Kim in the US Nats forum. After reading it my thoughts are further solidified. She's THE one to beat.

Sorry, Yes I meant Meissner. I type Kim sometimes when I don't feel like typing Kimmie ;) sorry for the confusion

Alright Ms. "Religious Right Wing Nut Job" you cannot tell me that you swoon over Brad Pitt - who left his wife for a purchaser of third world children that french kissed her brother and now refuses to marry her babydaddy until all are allowed to marry? (obviously I'm not a big Bradjelina fan... there is something morally corrupt about the two of them... could it be my Friends obsession??)

Obviously Matt & Ben are swoon-worthy...

And to stay on topic, do you think Jay-Z, Matt or Ben will complete a quad at Nationals? (I obviously need to go home & take a nap...)

Yah, I have recollection to your adversity to the name Kimmie;) (and "cute" and "hot" - well one of those at least) I was just making sure that you knew you were posting under "US Nationals" Didn't doubt it, just had to assume.

Why don't the guys start going OT about celeb honeys? I guess the "hottest girls" are already on topic 'cuz they're FSers.:agree:

eta, I posed the question on the "new Kimmie Forum" if she has a nickname she accepts. Haven't heard a word.

You make it sound like it's so wide open that if Michelle and Sasha wanted to, they could theoretically compete...and perhaps win

Then again, Kimmie seems to be a late season blooomer...she probably is only starting to peak for the season!

I don't know what you are talking about. However, it's only "cute" that's not a word in my vocabulary.

Ladies - Kimmie's jumping arsenal leads pretty much no challengers. She would have to mess up so much worse than she did this past GP season. Actually, she'd probably have to mess up worse than her GP events from '05-'06, which is not likely lol. Is Caroline Zhang not old enough to compete at Senior Nationals yet, because I think it's only a matter of time until she challenges Meissner?? And honestly I don't know much about this Flatt girl. I wish my best of luck to personal faves Czisny and Liang - may they stay on their feet and rotate their jumps for once!!!!

Mens - This is really time for Lysacek to step it up and beat Weir at Nationals. Weir has been horrific all season and Lysacek consistently beats him in international competition. Lysacek's competitiveness, determination, and overall consistency in LP's the past year make him the favorite, but injuries may get in the way.

That's the way to do it- declare Kimmie the unofficial winner, and wish good luck to your fave(s) ;)

unless your fave IS her, of course (not sure I know of anyone here though..OK, maybe one person...who hasn't posted in a while actually)

Well... technically Nationals is only wide open BECAUSE Michelle & Sasha aren't participating... and that's not fan chatter, that's real.
