Vincent Zhou

Vincent made another random Instastory appearance -- @tarahkayne posted a few seconds of him at the OTC.

Thanks, ice coverage, for another great find! :thank: Was that Tomoki in the background? Vincent, please pay Tom another visit.
Now if only Camden & TJ Nyman will do a video with him soon!

Yes, I think it was Tomoki in the background??

BTW, Daniel Tioumentsev just won Novice Men SP at Southwestern Regionals. :yay: By a margin of almost five points.

… These teleconferences are leading up to #SkateAmerica next weekend. ...

Appreciate the articles. Good luck to Vincent at Skate America.

I wonder whether there is any hope that audio of the media teleconferences will be posted on Fan Zone or elsewhere?? Used to be posted on IN.

Good for Daniel! Who is his coach? I saw Drew Meekins' tweet about going to the Southwestern Regional. Daniel edited his Instagram bio and took out the "2020" to simply "Inspiration: Vincent Zhou". Maybe too many people wondered about the significance of the year?

Appreciate the articles. Good luck to Vincent at Skate America.

That would be great if the audio will be made available. Hopefully, the Figure Skaters Online article will be a comprehensive one.

this is cute :)

If Coach TomZ is smart, he should hold a monthly contest for his students copying the Japanese Obstacle Course Game, seen here with Alina showcasing her killer skating skills!

This will really motivate them and make the whole session lots of fun!

Flashback Friday Pics

To get ready for next week's Skate America, here are some Flashback Friday pics from 2015 JGPF Barcelona:

First photo: December 2015 Front Row: Dima and Vincent, Back: Roman Sadovsky, Nathan, Daniel Samohin, can't remember the last guy's name

Next 3 pics: Dima, Daniel, Nathan, & Vincent. Boys on the phone. Wonder what they were talking about in the 2nd pic.

Vincent was less than 1 point away from the podium. Let's hope he will stay healthy and strong and get on the podium at Skate America!

Michael Parsons, super-nice guy and awesome U.S. ice dancer!!! Rachel and he are among my favorites :luv17:.

I honestly don't understand why everyone seems so impressed by that rather simple type of obstacle course?

It's really not that hard to do, especially for someone like Alina who skates on an elite level, although granted, that was a very long row she had to skate through.
(no disrespect to the intricate footwork freestyle slalom skaters in general do, those are incredible!)
I guess people who don't skate themselves are wowed by it, because they overestimate its difficulty?

And I don't think it's comparable to the edgework required for figures, where you have to hold and control an edge for a long time. I also don't see it as proof of great skating skills the way they're generally defined in figure skating (flow across the ice, 'soft knees', no scratching, deep edges, clean and quick edge changes... whereas in that very basic type of slalom skating it's mostly wiggling around on your blade, so it's more about quickness and balance, so yeah, agility really, which is just one aspect of SS).

Maybe he can do a series of super short videos call skating 101, similar to those "101 things I learned in..." books

Whew, server is back up! Lots of tweets to catch up:

Rockerskating's practice notes:

Vincent Zhou: practice was pretty good; working on some mental tools I can use for my programs ... I tend to overthink; my back is fully healed, no trouble with that anymore; part of being an athlete is being resilient #SkateAmerica

Vincent Zhou: I hurt my back the day before I left for Worlds ... I wasn’t able to do full programs before SLC; I’m not in the getting-back-into-things shape like I was there #SkateAmerica

Really like this new free skate for Vincent Zhou - expressiveness has improved leaps since last season

Vincent Zhou also looking fantastic so far in this practice - lutz, flip, toe, sal all back after not pulling out the full arsenal at US Classic

Zhou: 3T, 3Lz, 3A, 3A2T, 3A, 4S, 4S, 4T, 4Lz3T, 4Lz3T, 4F, runthru (1Lz, 4T, 3A3T(ur?), 4Lz(step), 1S, 3Lz1Eu3F)

From Lynn Rutherford with picture of Vincent and TomZ:

#SkateAmerica: @govincentzhou & @CoachTomZ. Zhou missed much summer's training due to back problems but is fighting back: "Success is two clean programs....I'm not letting myself off of the hook." Capable of doing 5 quads in his free, he is not yet sure how many he will attempt.

From Nick McCarvel:
Vincent Zhou on back injury: “I missed tons of time this summer... months. I wasn’t able to do full programs until [early Sept].” Says he is a perfectionist but will try and temper expectations for #SkateAmerica

Vincent's Planned Program Content Checklist:

SP: 4Lz+3T, 4F, CSSp, FCSp, 3A, StSq, CCoSp
FS: 4Lz+3T, 4F, 4T, FCSp, ChSq, 3A+2T, 4Lz, 4S, FCCoSp, 3Lz+1Eu+3F, StSq, CCSp

Throwback Thursday pic:

2013 US Nationals Junior Men Award Ceremony with Nathan, Jimmy, and Shotaro Omori.

Wishing Vincent the best of luck in Skate America tomorrow and Saturday! Hope he gets to do all the planned jumps clean, without straining himself.
Looking forward to seeing him on the podium again! Go, Vincent, go!

I just watched his practice on youtube. I wish I will be able to see him skate more smoothly, not so stiff, and with a bit more power, accuracy and confidence.
Let's see if he can nail those two programs if not at SA, sooner or later this season, because the programs are just lovely.

Take care and good luck Vincent! :D

I know what you mean, ArenaWings. Give Vincent some time to grow into the FP. He looks pretty good in this practice picture here. He is headed in the right direction this season. Hopefully, a podium win will provide more confidence and vigor.

Best of luck, Vincent! We are cheering for you!
