We lived through WC18. I dearly wanted Kolyada to medal but couldn’t see how he’d manage to unless everyone else had a meltdown... that happened. Aliev Zayak’d himself to 10th after the short. Bet on tail-end outcomes, not the modal ones.

It feels like so many ladies are doing great 3T-3Ts this year. Was that the case last year or in years previous? Did Gabby Daleman bring them back into style? Seems like the only combos anyone does at all this year are 3Lz-3L for the base value, or 3T-3Ts for the GOE possibilities.

No, they shouldn’t. PCS isn’t meant to punish skaters twice for technical errors, just as it shouldn’t serve as an extra reward across all components (PE, IE for a clean skate — sure, but SS, CO, and TR shouldn’t fluctuate as much from competition to competition).

Wang had stronger basic skating skills, more commitment to what she executed, and an actual programme. I have nothing against Daria, but that was not a programme or a performance. At most, it was a series of elements that had no relationship to each other. The layout and the music aren’t on speaking terms, there was no performance or interpretation of the music, etc. And skaters who go early will receive lower PCS than those who go later, despite IJS allegedly solving that issue, but it is what it is. Taking everything into account: her scores are fine.

(I do not think this is what she’s capable of, as I believe she’s injured. But she did not deserve higher PCS.)

Well, that's an opinion I don't share.

Programme has potential and I like Rika, but this was more of a rough draft than a finished work.
