Rika Kihira

Post performance interview:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INYg-0LIU2A her thank you very much at the end, so cute! :luv17:

Press conference interview:

I had a mistake, but I was able to regroup after that and finish my performance with no mistake. I was able to change from a state of nervousness to a state of concentration, so I was glad I was able to do that today.
I think the reason I'm able to have good results this season is because the past two seasons, I had many failures. I promised myself that I would remember them and never repeat those mistakes again.
For this season, the GPF was not at all on my mind. I was just aiming to get good results. I was able to have good practices throughout, so I was trying to replicate what i did in practices in competition.
Looking back on this season, I was able to get a great result at NHK. I realized that if I were to do 2 clean programs with no mistakes, the podium would be available for me. I’m really satisfied, and the key to good results is having consistent performances.
At this point I’m satisfied with myself. The key is consistency. I’m going to continue on this path. Ever since I was a child I have had a dream of going to the Olympics, and my goal is to go to Beijing 2022 and win there”

Jennifer Thomas (artist who created Beautiful Storm) got to see Rika today and she congratulated her on twitter :luv17:

I just love that neck roll she does at the beginning of “Storm”. It’s the little things. I truly love that program and it was an honor to see it live this afternoon.

Bold prediction: Rika will be the first(?) skater to complete the Grand Slam in her first senior year. No disrespect to Alina, but even if she skates clean (non pops) and Rika lands 2/3 3As, Rika is still ahead by a few points.

Reminds me of when Yuna Kim won her first senior GPF.

Worlds Gold is definitely not out of reach for her but there's a long way to there still, remember we still have Nats and 4CC although i don't know if they'll send her. They usually send a different team than the worlds team right? If Rika qualifies for the Worlds team they might not send her to 4CC although seeing as the jpn fed is in love with her now they might still send her just because.

Rika being interviewed by Megan Duhamel! they called her KIHARA again omg :laugh2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25PJv5hcgCU

She said after the mistake on the first 3A she did not get anxious and was confident she'd land the second one, are you kidding me? who is this girl? :eeking:

Anyway, it was a great day (night for me actually lol) i need to go to bed now. I am exhausted but i will definitely have the best dreams cause my favorites did so well today. See you guys tomorrow.

Congratulations, Rika! GPF champion? Who would’ve thought a year ago after the JGPF that Rika would be where she is now a year later. I am just so incredibly impressed with the growth of her mental strength and consistency this season. Hope she continues like this through nationals and hopefully worlds!

I wonder if JSF will give her a chance to win everything this year.

She has a high success rate on the 3A. She probably thought, ok there's my quota of mistakes for today.

Kihara isn't the worst. At the IdF gala, she was called Rika Kiha. That made me laugh. Several times.

Ladies are more consistent than men, so for some of them their peaks are harder to determine. Rika was "inconsistent" last season though. When does it look like her peak might happen this year? I don't think it's happened yet. Does Rika seem to peak around nationals?

I do hope her best happens at Worlds. Although I will always pray for her to skate clean and at her best or that she is happy with.

I feel like with Rika, the more competition experience she can get the better. Get those 3As out there as much as possible in the competition environment. So for that reason I’d like it if they did send her to both 4CC and Worlds (assuming she qualifies for the team).

For the rest of the 4CC team though, I hope they send people other than those selected for the world team because Japanese ladies are so strong that I think it’s worth it to give as many ladies a chance to compete as possible.

Unless she is utterly exhausted at the end of the season or has an injury, I can't imagine that Rika will be left off the WTT Japanese team too, and I can't imagine Rika rejecting if she's invited. I know it's less important and after Worlds but it's still another full competition to think about in this season, and another thing added to her plate that can be a bonus or just too much.

You're talking about a girl who will willingly do 50 jumps in 90 minutes, will go for a second 3A after falling on a downgraded one moments earlier, and will land perfectly clean triples after using a lot of energy on her 3A and 3Lz combos. I can't imagine her getting tired by one more competition. Also, both Worlds and WTT are in Japan.

Then I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. I want to see our GPF champion cheered on and surrounded by Team Japan being silly and her together in the gala TJ group number. Also her reaction to her team member's skates and vice versa.

I don't care if Rika goes to 4CC. Would hope that Kaori gets to go to defend the title and Mai gets another chance at it if she wants, and that already is 2 spots out of 3.

Kaori has earned the right to go to 4CC as the defending champion, I'd imagine. Not letting Rika go would clearly mean they want to give more opportunities for others, but it would be nice for Rika to win everything this year. I'm all for giving Mai another chance on the international stage.

They generally try to send the best people to 4CC each year, as Miyahara almost always went when she was able. Assuming Rika and Kaori both reach the podium at Nationals, I would guess that Mai would go to 4CC again with a top five finish in lieu of the other person they'll send to Worlds.

I selfishly want Rika at 4CC because I will be attending the competition this year :P

In other words, Rika did so well at Vancouver today! She got standing O's for both programs and was one of the audience's favorites of the whole competition. I'm so proud that she nailed her 3A combo right after her mistake on the first one!

ISU needs to use her rising popularity as an advertisement for the sport hahahahaha
A friend of mine has been very impressed by clean versions of her short and long programs. Now if only they occurred in the same competition...

@zanadude, I heard that JSF sometimes gives other skaters a chance when it comes to 4CC places. Otherwise, I'd imagine Miyahara and Mihara would be duking it out for third. Odd isn't it, given the romanisation of their surnames?

Rika for World Champion!!! She is so cool and amazing. I'm so flashed by the mental strength of this girl....

Does anyone know what the other song is in Beautiful Storm, there is a female voice singing, it has great mystical feel as well and in the Spotify version of Jennifer Thomas it's only the Piano. And only 3:29 long. Where can I find the other song?

The other song is called 'Mercy in Darkness' by Nick Phoenix

I have a feeling if she performs this well at Nats, Japan will want to send her to 4CC just for a clean sweep and i'm here for it :agree: Also she needs it. She needs to stay in competition mode all season going to Worlds. Nats are in december, Worlds is in late march.

Tatiana Tarasova about Rika in the short :luv17:
"Amazing girl, just an amazing girl. She listens to the music with her soul. This is a very rare thing in the short program, because in the short everyone is focused on executing very difficult elements.” Good to hear nice words from a Russian representative, Tat usually does not hesitate to compliment what she thinks deserves it even if it's a skater that is competing against a russian favorite.

Patrick Chan praising Rika as well
Patrick was surprised at Rika's remarkable ability to correction instantly.
"After the failure of first 3A, she immediately focused on next beautiful combo jump. She understood what was needed to win after the failure. What distinguishes a champion from other skaters at the highest level is the extent to which you've ability to adjust instantly. You can't do perfect performances every time. Whenever it happened, ability of adjustment was demanded. We saw Rika showed the ability at 16." :luv17:

It feels so good to see her be acknowledged by experts. Tara and johnny were also very impressed by her.

"Rika about Alina
"Alina Zagitova's score wasn't her best (score). She will do much better at another competition."

It seems Rika is all over the news in Japan lmao they have been waiting for that GPF victory for so long now.
Her free skate has already reached 400K Views on youtube omg :eeking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTrFPB_HC7Q
