2019 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

Well no-one's fallen yet, so I think it's still asleep!

Well, at least we now know who to blame for jinxing Alaine.

YOU!!!

Feel so sorry for her. She looked totally shellshocked immediately after she finished.

Alaine's an experienced competitor, but I wouldn't be surprised if she starts crying when waiting for the results.

Aah, Alaine. I don't know what it is that keeps ailing her - physical health or a mental block - but either way it's hard to see her struggle like this. I hope her team can keep working on whatever is holding her back :( A change in perspective, a vacation, maybe, would do good?

Sometimes I'm sure skaters would just want to bop their coach one in the kisser.

Alaine's Coach: Are you ok?

I'm sorry, but did he go out for coffee and a danish the last few minutes?

Good for Alaine for just nodding No. I would have been tempted to inflict bodily harm.

Alaine Chartrand (CAN)

Tech:

- Nice 3Lz but only a 2T on the combo with a landing on two feet
- Rough 3F, looks <
- Only a 1A, just loss of speed from the 3F
- Good speed through combo spin, could be better centered
- A little shakier on the footwork than I'm used to seeing but still good flow (Lvl 4)
- Ouch, a fall on the 3Lo, might be <
- Another fall on 2A+1Eu+3S, large hesitation with the Euler, 3S looks <
- Only a 2Lz with a stumble out
- Better snap on the 3S+2T, 3S also looks <
- Nice spiral position in the choreo sequence
- Good speed and position in the flying sit spin
- A bit tight on the end of the change spin, wobbly on the inside edge on the layback spin

Pres:

- A hard performance from Chartrand. Just couldn't come back from the opening mistake with the 2T and then the rough 3F with the under-rotation. Seemed like she couldn't find the spring in her legs.

FS Score: 93.08, TES 44.28, PCS 50.80, -2 Deductions
Total Score: 148.97 (currently 4th)

4 Alaine CHARTRAND (CAN)

Yikes, meltdown. Only one clean jumping pass and 2 falls

FS: 44.28+50.80-2.00 = 93.08, 148.97 4/4

Alaine can be so pleasant when she's on so I'm sad that's such a rare thing. The Canadian ladies have unfortunately made a case for why they should only have one spot in the absence of Kaetlyn. I do hope Gabby knocks it out of the park later!

What does Canada need to retain just 2 spots?

28 as the sum of top 2 placements? At least that's what I remember and based on this seems like they might be down to just 1 unless Gabby brings the house down. Correct me if wrong

Some people are like that, they instantly try to go for the 'comfort' route. I'm the same as you- I'd like dead silence from everyone if I had skated like that!

And even if Gabby will bring the house down, she has to finish in the top 4, so I think the chances are more than slim :palmf:
