Alexandra Trusova leaves Plushenko

I think it’s particularly a coaching error, primarily because he let her jump 4Lzs in the warm-up right before the SP. She wasn’t going to jump any quads in SP, there was no point in warming up quads, it just made her overrotate her 3Lz. Just a result of his inexperience.
AFAIR it was discussed right after her SP doom. The live commentators mentioned it looked like Sasha launched 4Lz, understood something's going wrong in the middle and decided to abort.
She failed to downgrade and lost the combo.
It wasn't a particularly good idea to warm herself with quads right before the SP.

Didn’t she do stuff like that under Eteri too? I don’t think that was a coaching thing but more of a Sasha being Sasha thing.

It's always something like this, "x is Eteri's favorite, y is Daniil's favorite". And there's never an actual consensus about who this is, just that it is not the poster's fave lol.

I think in 2018 that was pretty obvious

Zhenya: Eteri's fave, Alina: Daniil's fave

That still remains true today, probably  Although, both seem to love Anna:love2:

That's a cool idea to predict favorite skater by coach.

Here is my prediction :

Eteri's favorite : Evgenia Medvedeva, Kamila Valieva, Anna Shcherbakova, Sofia Akatieva

Daniil's favorite : Alina Zagitova, Alena Kostornaia, Anna Shcherbakova, Daria Usacheva

Sergei's favorite : Alexandra Trusova, Daria Usacheva, Evgenia Medvedeva

Skater who doesn't seem favorite by any of those coach : Maiia Khromykh

I think people assume Kamila is Eteri’s favorite because she’s the best Russian skater at the moment, and has the Olympic gold hype. I haven’t seen Eteri act any kind of way towards Kamila, yet have seen her act very motherly towards Anna. This team focused a lot of attention on Anna and her winning Worlds this year.
Eteri doesn’t seem to play favorites. She plays to win the gold at any cost.

One thing is to have a skater who you like personally more (which is natural, we are all humans with our taste and preferencies), the other is whenther you favour him through your attention (which is the matter of your professionalism). Even if Eteri possibly liked Evgenia more personally, she never let that to affect the training. To paraphrase one renowned line, "Eteri did everything to give both of her girls the equal chance in 2018." I expect nothing more or less now.

Not to be mean but this sounds like rubbish.

I agree. This is based at most on interactions in K&C or social media, literal minutes out of years long working relationships.

These are real people with real inter-personal relations, some that go back years (for better and worse). Of course there are "favorites" and this probably also changes, as most normal relationships do.

But if the claim is that the "favoritism" takes place in form of special treatment in training/creation of programs, that's where I disagree.

All of this is just based on observations, of course :)

Eteri: Medvedeva, Shcherbakova,

Daniil: Zagitova, Shcherbakova

Sergei: Trusova

I agree that Eteri never let her favouritism affect the training but her reaction to Alina's win was pretty...let's call it obvious...

Sasha was very happy with PLushenko and Mikhailov but her father was not pleased with the results obtained.
In his obsession with sending his daughter to the Olympics, he thought that only former coaches can restore her to her optimal shape. So he just made the right call to Renat Laishev.
Sasha will be forced to repeat the speech: "it was my decision" but no one will believe it.
Possibly the reason why the transfer back to Sambo70 is going more smoothly. Eteri may not believe that Sasha leaving and now rejoining Sambo70 are of her own initiative, and thus less anger/blame falling on her.

1) Eteri has only one project called Kamila. Preparing the other skaters is a secondary task with a lower priority.
IMHO that seems quite illogical.
a) Why put all eggs in 1 basket? Elite level athletes often get injured. Eteri is probably smart enough to hedge her bets. She may or may not consider Kamila the favorite, but it won't make sense to alienate the rest TOO MUCH.
b) The team event may not be as prestigious as the individual gold, but its still important. Which means she needs at least 2 skaters, since I doubt she is just going to sit by and let Tuktamysheva fill one of the two individual ladies spots in the team event.
c) Russia has 3 spots for the ladies at the Olympics. Anyone seriously think Eteri doesn't want all 3?

On a separate note, here is my admittedly long shot prediction for Sambo70:
#1 - Medvedeva retires and switches to coaching Eteri's novices/juniors

It would be 1 less senior who has little chance of making the Olympic team for Eteri to focus on.
Her relationship with Eteri seems to have largely recovered, and Eteri could definitely use extra coaching staff.
She has perfectly good reasons (health issues post Covid, injuries, etc) to retire gracefully.
Has been holding limited coaching sessions and masterclasses already and a career in coaching seems an obvious choice for her in the future.
Speaks passable English (see prediction 3).

#2 - Zagitova retires and focuses on her degree/career in broadcasting
It would be another senior who has little chance of making the Olympic team for Eteri to focus on.
Has a good relationship with Eteri and a career for her in broadcasting provides another pro-Sambo70 voice, and a significant one at that.
She is already pretty much retired from competitive skating, and I don't think actual retirement will exclude her from shows.
Already working towards this angle anyway.

#3 - Shcherbakova retires (further down the line) and joins Eteri's team as another coach (5 year plan maybe?)
Regardless of what happens in 2022, she is unlikely to last competitively till the 2026 Olympics.
She has mentioned her desire to stay within the sport after her competitive career. IIRC she specifically discussed the possibility of coaching.
Is another skater with a good relationship with Eteri and joining her team would be a win-win for both (see prediction 4).
Speaks fluent English and together with Medvedeva, they can expand Eteri's coaching empire by opening it up to the international market.

#4 - Eteri's empire expands from training skaters, to also training coaches (Eteri becomes National Coach/Coaching Matriach)
Eteri herself is also fluent in English. Having international students will be another feather in her cap.
Might even let her pull a reverse Brian Orser and possibly even take some of his students for a change.
Has a 3rd senior who speaks fluent English and is largely done with her career (Tursynbayeva). Although I don't know if she is interested.

Just hold on reading a page of this tabloid pasquin ... it's pathetic to see how far eterihaters go with their visceral hatred ... I thought this forum had regained some decency, but I see that it remains the same allowing to continue insulting a woman only to be successful ... If Kostornaia, Trusova and Zhilina return to Tutberidze it is only because they realized that with PLUSHENKO THEY FAILED ... THE GUY HAS NOT GAINED ANYTHING AS A COACH...

Caps doesn't make you smarter. FYI.

Easy answer why Trusova return to Eteri :

1) To have Eteri bonus in GOE
2) To have high PCS undeserve but every Eteri skater get bonus in PCS so ...
3) To doesn't get call internationaly for her lip in the flip, because every Eteri skater doesn't get call for their flutz and lip
4) To have the attention of the Russian federation who prefer Eteri skater over other coach.

Even if she look improved with Plushenko, Plushenko don't have Eteri bonus, have PCS normal, get call on lip and flutz and russian federation doesn't support Plushenko like Eteri.

I think thoses are the reason why she return to Eteri.

This is nothing but good for Sasha and I'm happy for her. Being a lone wolf is very difficult and she isn't seasoned like Tuktamysheva. Not having the microscope on because she's Plushenko's student will help. And even in her own rink she isn't favourite to win now, so I hope it calms her nerves and she can just be another skater.

This year out wasn't negative at all. In my opinion Sasha really comes out unscathed. Good programs, getting to experience another coaching set-up. Some more technical advice. Now it's looking for consistency and stability, and thankfully she's going to have to listen to Eteri.

Normally I don't like mentioning parents but I have to. I hope there's less of that parental influence with Sasha's career now that she had to move back. Her and her coaches together will do a better job.

I am not totally surprised by Trusova going back to TT. A little bit surprised Plushy has at least publiclly seemed so calm. As much as I like Plushy and he has a wonderful reputation as a competitor. A coach is a new(er) role for him and it takes time. Being a good competitor does not necessarily make a good coach.

I hope team ET manages to get some good and different programs for her stable of superstars. They deserve it. really I think Evegenia with injuries and all is done. Kamila, Anna, Aliona, Alexandra, MK, Liza and I think I missed one or two more are really fighting for a spot at Beijing. I think the move isn't bad for Trusova but she needs the programs. Time will tell Will this competitive circle be good for all the girls.

We all know Russia could not let Canada steal the limelight for drama lol.

In Russia, you will not achieve great success without your parents (probably as well as in other countries). Harutyunyan (he is also from Russia), speaking about his student Nathan Chen, said that his parents helped Nathan a lot by taking him to music and gymnastics camp at an early age, thereby filling the gap in the versatile development of the skater at the initial stage. By other words (It's also told by Harutyunyan), Nathan's mother led his development along the old school of the USSR, which now works in Russia with modern adjustments.

I can only say for my country, but now parents who want a sports career for their children begin to send them to sports as early as 4-5 years old, and live for this. And I know that it's hard and not everyone can adjust to it. My work colleague wanted a career as a hockey player for her son, but she could not keep up with her son's sports schedule. He had coaching before school, then he has to leave school for another longer coaching at the second half of day, and so on 6 days a week. It's really hard for parents.

It's easy only at the very beginning, when you send your child to the rink and they, with all their mass, just learn to stand on the ice until they notice him ...

In my childhood, it was considered good to go for 1-2 disciplines, in my case volleyball and drawing. But now all parents are trying to send their children to 2-3 disciplines (For examples sports, cultural, spiritual). May be you think that's a lot for one child, but it's not expensive.

No doubt and I never wanted to discredit that. But there have been rumours about the involvement of Sasha's father on coaching changes and hands-on about jump layouts whereas Sasha already had competent coaches. Figure skating is hers and her thing. There comes a point where you don't need that pressure coming from someone else. But you always want that continued support at home.

I completely understand you. BUT, I think that Sasha has a more difficult situation, because her father is a trainer himself, albeit in a different sport, and her mother are also an athlete. Imagine when you are 24 hours a day between 3 coaches, and each has its own guidelines and ambitions, but at the same time, Sasha remains a motivated athlete with character. This is just a mega scary combo that does not negate its disadvantages.

Well if rumors are true about Trusova's father getting involved with her training and with her layouts, given that Eteri has coached her before hopefully she (Eteri) laid out some ground rules that curtail his involvement
