Maybe it was overblown, maybe it was not. When someone sees a little boy skating around with his arm in a cast, it's not far off for people to expect the worst.
Either way, I'm happy for Zhilina if she's not injured so badly.

She is skating around and doing a cartwheel in this clip, so I am assuming it's not as bad as it was reported!
She was with Sergei Alexeev and Maria Stavitskaya, they're both coaches at Plushenko's school. He's usually listed as the main coach but I think his skaters work with a lot of different coaches for different things. He doesn't go to every single competition either, other coaches will often go in his place.

Somewhere I saw that Ksenia said she already has her VISA, and has had it for some time.
I hope not. She is probably the most talented kid I've ever seen in my life, they need to protect her at all costs.
I broke my hand the day before I was supposed to leave for summer training. There was no way I was going to stay home, and I skated most of the summer with a cast that went up to my elbow. I don't remember there ever being any concerns, and I still managed to do most everything. (This was back in the day, so I had one of those big ole hard casts-probably safer then what they have now, but still). Also it seems to me that his son mostly just skating for fun, something I think his dad is okay with.
Understandable to a point however I can draw some differences in the situations, 1 was sick (or recovering from) the other injured. Shcherbakova was recovering from an illness not a potential injury - she probably felt bad but likely there was minimal danger to her long-term health to go out and skate her programs, she had a 3-peat at stake for Nationals, an attempt at going to Worlds, and additionally she could have thought that if she was successful that she was going to vastly improve her shot at the Olympic team selection for the following year(this year). Zhilina is 5 years from her Olympic season, why gamble this far out with an injury that could do long-term damage? And let's not forget Shcherbakova had a toe injury and took a full month off the ice in the off-season leading up to the Olympic season to heal.
I would hope that the skaters selected for Skate America and their coaches would have started working on their visa stuff immediately after being selected.
Came across this article about Stanislava Konstantinova when she moved to Moscow for training the St. Petersburg Fed took back dresses and boots that they bought for her. Thought it was interesting considering the wide belief that the Russian girls largely have it so easy with the Fed paying for everything
It just means she ended up paying for things like most other skating countries do.

That‘s not how it happened though. Anna was castigated for risking her long term health too. There were countless “Her lungs may never be the same” proclamations that week.
Also we saw:
”She is risking her career for a gold medal”
”The coaches are heartless for letting her skate”
These 2 situations are more similar than different in my opinion. That is why I brought Anna up, since I got flashbacks to that.
Good luck trying to control them or tell them what to do.

No one is saying that they can't make some decisions for themselves, but at the end of the day, a lot of these skaters are still children and ultimately, adults are responsible for their safety and well-being.
You can push yourself without it being dangerous.
I wasn't talking about in terms of what fans on message boards were saying, I was talking about the actual health issues; athletes quite regularly have done both, I don't recall ever hearing 1 talk about having played through the flu or something similar causing long-term problems, you do hear about playing through injuries causing long-term problems.

Local federations seem to be quite competitive with each other, and they probably are not very happy to lose their athletes to Moscow. Especially when they funded them for that long and expected those athletes to keep representing their region.
Taking away dresses seems petty though. Are they planning to give these dresses to their younger skaters maybe?
I don’t think this is necessarily a problem for athletes who receive national funding. Athletes with national funding are in more secure place and have more things covered.

Finally Anna has a competition. I'm so excited.
I'm so glad Anna's getting the opportunity to compete internationally this year! Hopefully she'll be able to set a solid score and put herself in the top 24 for season's best scores 
Interesting to see Kseniia here since this competition is the week after Skate America, and Las Vegas to Kazakhstan isn't exactly a short trip. Hopefully she'll do well too, I'm glad to see her competing a lot this season as well!

Anna, Ksenia, Ekaterina Ryabova (AZE), Varvara Kisel (BLR), Maria Levushkina (BUL), Anastasia Shabotova (UKR) live and train in Moscow.
