I'm so glad Anna's getting the opportunity to compete internationally this year! Hopefully she'll be able to set a solid score and put herself in the top 24 for season's best scores

Interesting to see Kseniia here since this competition is the week after Skate America, and Las Vegas to Kazakhstan isn't exactly a short trip. Hopefully she'll do well too, I'm glad to see her competing a lot this season as well!
Happy for both. I'm a fan of Kseniia and cheering a lot for her to have a great season. After not being able to compete last season.

IF she takes any time off ice to heal…

That’s a snapshot from Plushchenko’s Instagram stories from today, where his son is jumping axels with a cast on the broken arm and, suddenly, Veronika appears training on one skate…

I am speechless this time. They are risking these kids entire future by not letting take time off and heal properly. They are not going to the Olympics, this season isn’t important, so why???

Let’s hope that the media got it wrong and the injury is less serious than reported.

(I don’t know how to link the IG story)
Lunacy on steroids. Collective Poligraf Poligrafovich Sharikov.
If you actually listen to the mob then Plushenko is a child abuser (possibly pedo), Davydov is a moron, Gleikh is a talentless scrub and the list goes on :D

It’s amazing that the only people on another site that are figure skating fans are either doctors and physios.

I would not be surprised if Rus Fed hires them all since they obviously know how to medically treat skaters better than the coach‘s own doctors and physios.

I think a lot of the people on another site/Twitter/Tumblr are children, so I'd cut them some slack. When it turns out someone old is saying the things they do on those places though, that's when I :slink: But it's the same as this place then :P

I don’t understand why everyone is so dramatic about Veronika’s injury. I knew a girl who played months of professional league soccer on a sprained ankle that required surgery to heal completely. As Kamila said once— Eteri asked them to raise their hands if they did not have something hurting. Injuries are part of professional sport. The only reason Plush probably even mentioned it is because she’a missing a competition.

The initial reports of her injury was broken leg and then it was torn ligaments, and then we see her fooling around on 1 leg on the ice. Its not like Zhilina is competing this season to go to the Olympics, she's 5 years out from the Olympics and improperly treating a ligament can permanently damage it and with the videos of her, there are some people concerned/frustrated that there might be some pretty dangerous gambling with her. I speak from experience even if you properly treat damaged ligaments it might still never be right and feel as it did pre-injury, I hope it was just some simple strain or strain but the initial reports was a very serious injury and Plushenko's statement (based on Google translate) did not refute the seriousness of the injury.

Only Eteri (like all normal coaches) does not release an athlete on the ice if his leg is obviously damaged. When Anya had two leg injuries (a fracture four years ago and an injury this year), she missed training. This is natural.
This is obviously a PR. And it's stupid PR.

When I think about it, Frolova has actually a chance to reach the GP this season with a good skate at Denis Ten Memorial. She is the highest Russian woman on the Replacement list, but with a good skate around 200 points she would rise higher.

But as it stands now, she can only get a spot at the NHK Trophy where there are only two other Russian women.

The situation so far:
Skate Canada - Alexia Paganini wd - vacancy (Frolova can not get it)
GP Italy - Shan Lin wd - vacancy (will probably be filled with an Italian woman, and rightly so)
Rostelecom - Tursynbaeva wd - Safonova is in.

Plushenko literally posted on his own Instagram about how the reports she had a broken leg were false, and that it was a hip injury. Veronika is smiling in videos. But yes, let’s trust less than reliable internet sources over her own coach! Perfect!

Guys I was re-reading an old Russian interview with Google Translate, and among the many haywire translations and semi-readable sentences, was the word “toe-loop“! Not sheepskin coat, but actually toe loop! I can’t believe it! :jump::ROFLMAO:

I wonder if there's such a sheer quantity of russian skating articles online now that google's simply caught up on this by now  Or if the article was different somehow.

I don’t know, but everywhere else in the article was ‘sheepskin coat’, so I wonder if it has something to how it was phrased combined with how Google Translate works.

Plushenko literally confirmed she got a “ligament injury in her ankle” in his post, so the journalist from Telesport was correct. People were discussing that ligament injury is actually more serious than breaking a bone, so if anything, he confirmed a more serious diagnosis out of the two.

Try reading it again, says nothing about the hips. Idk if Google translate can mess up medical terms this badly.

I really hope it was just a minor sprain and she’s feeling healthy again. Perhaps it wasn’t anything serious, and she started feeling better much sooner than expected. Else this was an unusually speedy recovery, just that same morning he had her skating with 1 skate and a sneaker, and by the evening she was doing cartwheels on ice with both skates on.

Re: pain. There needs to be a difference between training through pain because you fell, because your muscles ache; and pain from serious injuries, which shouldn’t just be ignored. One shouldn’t just blindly train through pain, especially if doctor already gave his diagnosis.

I think people are just genuinely worried for Nika, she’s such a huge talent with big beautiful textbook jumps, amazing flexibility and spins. She’s a rare gem in figure skating, an exceptional athlete and everyone wishes to see her go compete at a big stage like Worlds and Olympics. For that her mom and her team need to ensure she stays healthy and strong for next 4 years. I’m sure since her mom is always beside her, she wouldn’t do anything to harm her daughter. So in that sense I am calm for Nika.

The video with one skate obviously was not filmed on the same day as the livestream with Veronika on both skates. She's been injured for a while, you can see it in the AoP Instagram. Five days before the journalists picked up on the story she is shown in the gym only exercising her left leg, and before that there is a break in training videos featuring her.

Obviously? Regardless of the day it was filmed, it doesn’t look like a good idea to train in 1 skate, especially if she was still recovering.

Anyways, the main thing is that she’s healthy again.

1) A ligament injury is not “more serious” than a broken bone, you can train on injured ligaments, you cannot train on a broken leg or toe (re: Anna)

2) after checking your translation yes, it’s an ankle ligament— not hip as insta translates it to. HOWEVER it is still not a broken bone, and people’s perception of injury severity is still incredibly warped

3) people skate on one skate all the time, for edge exercises, to keep the feel of the ice, etc. This is routine

4) ligament injuries especially to the ankle which is such a complex joint are often not bothered by many actions— it is only specific ones that are. For example, when I’ve sprained my ankles before playing soccer I would have the whole thing swollen and purple and bruised all season long but would only feel pain when turning a certain way, or misstepping to land on the side of my foot— sprinting, running, and most actions unaffected. This is also why sprinters and runners who tear their ACL will not actually get them repaired until the end of their professional career— they don’t need to move that particular direction when sprinting short distances, especially if braced for track turns.

5) telling a thirteen year old girl on the internet that her coaches don’t have their best interest in mind because they let her do what she loves (without apparent pain) during a competitive season is pretty messed up.

My final words are STOP GASLIGHTING 13 YEAR OLDS into believing they’re experiencing abuse because you have an overly weird fixation on every single thing that happens in their life and career. It’s creepy. This fixation on her doing a f%&* cartwheel or skating on one skate is creepy.
