And thats actually not something great, because it could have made the injury worse for all we know because its like history is repeating itself! The only difference is that sasha doesnt have the spot on the team safe and zhenya had her spot safe. And anyone who finds it amazing that she jumped and skated on a broken foot and wants to praise her for that, go in but please do not make it sound for all of us like its a great thing, its not if sasha were my daughter? I would have told her in no uncertain terms that no she will not compete because health is more important than anything else, and at least rusfed seems to have learned from 4 years ago, and did the right thing of not letting sasha compete next week, i also wasnt fond of anna getting smelling salt last year at rusnats, yes she won, yes she had the skate of her season but she didnt think aounher health, if someone needs smelling salt than i as a Couch would pull the brake ,(and i like both anna and sasha but i just cant with people who think that when the skaters ignore their health in those moments is a good thing for which they should get praised , ) i am sorry for the rant but i also wished that zhenya had gone to the doctor earlier than she did in 2017
If athletes in any sport were following your acquainted advice, the sport would simply not exist.

The thing with health is that at these top ladies have had international careers and something to justify the lifelong niggling injuries and pains they will have.

The worst thing is for the people that almost make it. Through my work I've come across men who have found themselves on a disability pension by 40 due to youth sporting injuries ending their ability to work. Usually these people trained very hard and *almost* made it and then sadly had the resultant injuries catch up on them later in life.

But yes that is the price for elite sports. There's no stopping it, it's a story as old as time.

Still, he didn't have to attend the most important, quadrennial tournament of his life in three months...
I get the feeling most NBA players cared more about making the NBA finals every year than making the Olympic team every 4 years.

A comment like must be on the olympic team is an embarrassment coming from a top coach and a former olympian! Liza should be embarrassed by such comments. Support is fine but this is over the top. Must be on the Russian olympic team ahead of KV Anna Sasha Maya Aliona and Dasha? How about we see what happens in GPF and Rusnats then the fed will figure it out. If the fed plays games and puts her on the team over a more deserving skater they will do irreperable damage to themselves and annoy alot of their skaters. If Liza earns her way on great. If she just misses out as I expect now that Anya is coming on and Sasha is getting healthy so be it. Liza is special but she cant score with Kamila Anna and Sasha at their bests or near their bests. Liza can hold off Maya dasha and Aliona. But KV Anna and Sasha hold their olympic team position in their hands. Does anyone really think if it comes down to Anna or Liza they take Liza?

Sasha needs to start scoring 240 plus points. if she does watch out. But I dont dicount Liza adding a quad by Rusnats. She may have to if Sasha is scoring over 240 as I expect she will.

This olympic season should be fun and heartbreaking.

Hey Brian have Canada give up their ladies spot in the olympcs so Russia can send 4. Then we would certainly have Liza on the team. Unless Maya gets 3 quads and a 3A by Rusnats! ;)
I think this is misunderstanding his comments. He IS just supporting her. He's saying her continued drive to improve and compete (with competitive elements including learning a quad and having 3 3As) is inspiring to those in figure skating that their careers don't have to end at 17. Liza isn't my cup of tea; however, I do admire her drive to continue to improve in the face of what must seem like long odds. And Liza IS competing. He isn't saying that she should be on the team ahead of anyone. He isn't trying to tell Russia what to do. That's silly to assume he is. He's merely saying that he (like probably others here) would like to see her on the Olympics team.
What difference does it make how old they are? Someone can accomplish so many things in a couple of years that another person will not do for the rest of his life. Anna is a three-time champion of the most difficult competition on the planet. She is a true veteran, not Tuktamysheva, for example. And the fact that you found out about her existence a couple of years ago is not Anna's problem. Figure skating started for her 13 years ago, and at the professional level an approximate 7-8 years ago.
You completely misunderstand me and are looking for conflict.

That would like EG publickly picking an olympic spot for a skater another country. LOL! she would be villified for doing so.

Why cant they just leave the Russian girls and fed alone? s there Russian coach that ever talks about non russian skaters?
Don't be absurd.

The Russian ladies are a huge talking point around figure skating as a whole. He was merely asked to comment about the various ladies. That's it. And Russian coaches have talked plenty when asked about non Russian skaters.

He was NOT asked to chose the team nor DID he. He merely said that he found Liza inspiring and would like to see her on the team. That's not exactly a revolutionary opinion.

Well that solves that thank you very much. I of course thought she was 15 not 14.

The spot should go to Russia and then if they don't send anyone it should go to the next eligible.
The spot doesn't go to Russia. It never has needed nor was required to. It's not Russia's spot to give or request.

But Japan hasn't even replaced Rika's spot. Or even Olga's when she withdrew in October. For that matter, same with Daniil's spot on the men's side. They're (JSF) not required to replace the spot and Japan in particular has strict quarantine restrictions.

Russian Cup Stage 4 starts tomorrow for the women

Zinina, Shulskaya, Nugumanova, Gulyakova, Samodelkina will battle it out in seniors.
Gulyakova really needs a podium finish here but it's going to be tough. Nugumanova is already out of Nationals.
This also means that we won't see Frolova and Tsibinova at Nationals. Maybe they are changing countries??

In juniors we have Gorbacheva, Artyomova, Gurgenidze, Dmitrieva, Ponteleenko, Lagutova.
Dmitrieva needs a podium finish here.
No sign of Sadkova, Berestovskaya, Ovchinnikova, so I guess we won't see them either at junior Nats. Or has Berestovskaya already Q because of her JGP assignment?

I'm not sure but isn't (unlike seniors) advancing to JGPF required to get a bye to junior nationals? I think it is.

Weren't there some pix of Sadkova back in her hometown few weeks ago making fans questioning her future in Tutberidze group?

According to the rules, mandatory participation in two stages (CoR or GP).

Berestovskaya and Trusova need second stage. There will be another 5th stage in Perm, Nov. 17-21

These rules always say that in the end it's the council who decides these things.

Regarding Gleikh's latest interview and his words about Alena - before you start going fan-sensitive with conclusions, try to understand that these coaches spend more days/months/years with their students than their own parents, therefore know exactly what to say to push a competitive psychological button inside their heads.

Daniil doesn't "like" or "dislike" Alena, he just knows how to motivate her. If necessary - even through media interview...
