Who is that? Both #1 ranked skaters have been injured Nathan Chen has been injured though he has not missed competitions and Shcherbakova had an off-season injury that delayed her training but had not missed competitions.
She also had the neck injury. Not super serious but worth mentioning since it was during the season.

Kamila has had injuries. She was injured enough at the first JGPF she couldn’t jump quads. She would’ve lost if Alysa hadn’t blown it. She even said in an interview she doesn’t remember skating without pain. With her jump technique I think the only reason she’s avoided serious injury this far is flexibility and a young body.
Nobody at that level skates pain free. Impossible considering what the body has to go through.

Landing on one leg just jumping without skates is jarring enough.

What I’m saying is that

1. It’s not true she’s been injury free

2. Pain is indicative of some form of trauma. Anyone who skates with persistent pain is somehow injured. I’d say skating with aches and pains that bother you periodically is pretty typical and probably won’t be reported as an injury— I doubt the coaches even know about many of them. But I don’t know if it’s normal that she never experiences a skate without pain. I used to have chronic injuries that would bother me only when I moved certain ways if I didn’t warm up enough even if they ached when I was not actually running. This was considered normal for high level soccer. If they pained me all the time, it was not.

Anna mentioned that there are little injuries and that things bother her but she didn’t say outright that every moment on ice for her hurts. I think there’s a big difference.

I do not follow. Why Dasha would stay home if not for Olympic season? Olympic team is selected on the nationals, NHK has 0 input here.

Supposedly if Dasha did well here and then went on to the GPF and also did well there
Her scoring potential and familiarity with the judges would've increased and she
would carry that reputation into Nationals, Which might've helped her stand out more
in a viciously crowded field, She's a relative newbie and these are precious moments,
Some of the time that's how it works

For example, I'm pretty sure Kaori Sakamoto as a relative newcomer wouldn't have been
sent to the last Olympics over Higuchi if she only had beaten her at nationals, Without
getting a surprise Silver medal at a GP months before

Good points. Absolutely there are times when injuries get hidden from coaches. No doubt about that.

It’s a complicated issue all around.

Because Dasha is on the outside looking in as far as the Olympics go. as she needs to impress at every event building momentum for nationals. at this point Dasha is not Sasha or Anna or Liza. She is building her career while the others are there.

One thing I hope helps is her recovery is that she is fit as hell.

Can’t someone invent a potion so that athletes can drink it and never get injured? Haha
It's very important that she lets this injury heal fully and if that means she has to miss nationals so be it.

Based on a light Google search, it takes roughly 4 months to heal a ligament tear and that's to heal it not even talking getting back to do jumps and spins on ice. Nationals are in less than 2, her season is done
Probably so. Sad.

I still do not get how Olympics affects it. Does she need to impress less in non-Olympic year?

Actually I'm going to say if that timing for recovery is accurate its a good thing in the sense that its definitive that Nationals are out of the question, so there is unlikely going to be an attempt to rush the recovery to make a shot at it. Imagine if it was a 6-8 week recovery an Olympic class athlete would probably be trying to go to Nationals or the Cup Final to pass her case for the team.

Most of these girls will not make it through one Olympic cycle at the senior level, much less two. If Daria wanted a shot at the Olympics it was all or nothing this season. Maybe you get two or three shots at a world title or GPF title so you’re okay with skipping some event but that doesn’t happen with the Olympics, especially for Russians.

Good point and now Dasha can heal completely. I hope her parents are involved in her career and life and I would think so

:cautious: you mean skating on ice while injured
So many are skating with minor injuries that blow up into injuries severe enough to prevent them from competing
Daria needs to heal.

But I’m picturing her sneaking out to skate.

That wouldn’t be smart obviously. That’s why I mentioned before that she needs to be locked in her room.

I’m also picturing her knocking out one of the doctors for telling her to rest. Haha

We need some comic relief with this sad Daria situation.
