2021 Internationaux de France: Men's Free Skate

That’s nice, but it certainly doesn’t change my opinion that’s it’s theatrical and that he failed to captivate me.

I'm not sure if "nice" is the word I would use for a Jewish skater expressing the grief of the Holocaust. But certainly not every program is going to captivate every watcher, so if it doesn't speak to you, it doesn't speak to you.

For me, I'm glad Jason waited until he felt mature enough to handle the theme, and the maturity, for me, is its essence. We can agree to disagree.

So I did the Grand Prix math yesterday and while Jason just needs Semenenko off the podium and/or Kolyada out of contention to go to GPF, if Semenenko misses the podium AND Kolyada finishes 5th or lower next week, Shun qualifies with Jason.
Semenenko has to be out of top 2, not the podium for Jason to make it. Jason was 2nd in Canada. And if he's top 2 the scores will be compared.

Genuine question: why is "theatrical" a bad thing? This is figure skating, performing to music on the ice. The sport is theatre and I mean that in all the best ways.
It depends on the program. In this case, being theatrical isn’t good. Simplicity is best. This isn’t the first time I felt this about Brown either. He comes off as phony in some of his programs. This was an example.

I think it's a bad thing when it doesn't really match the theme. Sometimes i don't understand some endings. Like how Medvedeva ended her masquerade waltz program. It was too much and didn't fit the theme imo.

Fingers crossed to the max. I really really really really really want Yuzuru to try to get his third gold. Or just get a medal.
So long that it is not detrimental to his health. It would be interesting who the third man would be if Hanyu doesn’t skate in Olympics. Otherwise, it’s pretty clear imo.

Thanks goodness I am not the only one. Pretentious and saccharine is how I see him. I am sure back in 2014 he was oodles of fun.
