Maybe, I think the technical superiority doesn’t necessarily mean better skaters though. I’d much rather watch Anna, Sasha, and Aliona as juniors than any of the current juniors save Sophia A. They were just so artistically mature for their age, with very polished programs. As kids grow they lose that instability while skating so to speak, which I think is part of why I still don’t like Kamila… she wobbles the way 11 year olds do, even if the rest of the presentation is good.
Artistic development is being overlooked in favor of jumps, so girls like Veronika Zhilina are underdeveloped there, and aren’t near as engaging for their age as the 3A, Alina, Zhenya… Sophia Titova is actually pretty engaging for her age, so we’ll see if she does better artistically than the others.
Also coaches see youth kids who aren’t old enough to be filmed by anything except their parents, so they might have a better comparison nationwide than we as spectators of only the best of the best do.
