Interesting takes even though you lower her scores there' still great scores.

Anna will have her chances. But she will probably have to be able to score close to 250 points to topple KV.
I don’t think she’s a bad skater I just think she has awful jump technique, bad combos, and no real connection with the audience and that her scores are unfairly inflated to the extent she is never punished for her weaknesses but instead hailed as the all perfect skater with nothing to improve and it makes competitions on ice worthless because they’re all politically predetermined before anyone’s boots are even laced.

Wait, so this programme, about chasing a butterfly, is dedicated to her deceased grandparent? If so, that adds another layer of brilliance to the programme, as the butterfly is associated with the soul/spirit, at least as far back as Aristotle, who uses the term psyche (literally "breath [of life]", hence "spirit", "ghost") to refer to butterflies.

Edit: Wow, it is!

So it's a programme about loss, about grief, about death, and about letting go?

I mean, yes and no. Kamila assigned the meaning after she met the composer (I believe at Skate Canada Gala) and he told her that’s what he wrote it to be about. Which is lovely she would dedicate it to someone in line with his intentions but in its initial format it really was just the butterfly meaning.

I think the WR was deserved by Kamila today, if you actually watched her skate. She was fully committed to the music, expressive in her face, and all her movements hit every single musical accent and flowed with it. That's not normally the case with Kamila, but it was today. The overall ice coverage was also crazy and her speed was unmatched.

Alena's WR had a better combo but Kamila makes up for that with her spins, and Alena was behind her music with her movements and there was little emotion in her face. That step sequence was also a lot slower than Kamila's. You can watch both skates back to back to see the difference.

And although I think Anna's musicality/intepretation is the best, Kamila more than matched it today; she really hit everything and all her movements had so much purpose and her face wasn't blank or nervous at all, her expression changed with the music. This is the skate she would be aiming to have at the Olympics, so hopefully she didn't peak too early in the SP and can replicate it there.

Thank you for the clarification. Now I want to go find the source for this, to get the timeline for the creative development of the programme straight in my head. If it was at the Skate Canada gala, I wonder if that motivated some of the choreographic changes, to allow for the programme to follow the composer's intent, because I did feel that her performance today was more emotionally charged than previous performances of this SP. A happy chance, then, that there was a butterfly storyline already! But also, how interesting to get a sense of how a programme may develop creatively over the course of a season, and how its meaning may shift.

Totally agree. And I also worry a bit that she has peaked too early. It's The GPF, Nationals, Europeans to go before Olympics, so a lot can still happen.

Maiia's performance today was a bit worrying. With Warsaw in mind, if she has a bad free skate tomorrow and only finishes 4th or lower she opens up the door for You/Hendrickx for the GPF.

If Loena is 3rd and Maiia 4th tomorrow they will both have 22 points just like Young You.
And if my calculations are correct, then
Loena needs 201.53 to beat You
Maiia needs 194.23 to beat You, and 0.01 more to beat Loena

Edit: Maiia needs to be 5th to miss the GPF. Her 2+4 placings would go before 3+3.

What about her sensational spins?

I disagree that the results are pre determined. If KV bombs her free skate with 3 falls she loses to Anna or sasha or Liza. Maybe even with 2 falls in the free if someone does well in their free.

I also wonder if the dress change was motivated by this developed interpretation (lavander being the color of mourning in Victorian England, purple being the color of priests' vestments at Catholic funerals).

It's a make it or break it skate for Maya. But we have to realize she's only 15 and very tall for a lady figure skater. It will take her time and she has a bright future whether she makes the grand prix final or not.

I was thinking the same thing. Meanwhile sasha is there laying in the weeds ready to come back healthy soon and nail 3 or 4 quads in the free.

Exactly, in a way Sasha has the upper hand right now not having to exhaust herself with a GPF. She can concentrate on Nationals.

They are not quads, dear. Compare her quads to hanyus.
And you claiming that "We will see KV and Anna square off at GPF Nats Euros and Olympics" is the proof of what I am saying, everything is set up.
And people like you defending peculiar skater is common on forum. Every skater have such die hard fans like you, saying that X skater deserve everything she receives.IT was the same with Med, Zag, Anna etc etcAll those skaters were overscored
Why would I compare KV to a man when a man has testosterone?

I think as the season progresses KV will win you and others over. And as far as inflated scoring goes I could say the same about all the top skaters in the last 20 years or so. It's not just a Russian ladies there.

Valieva is not even my favorite skater and I don't defend her I just state the obvious about her. But I guess she should be happt you're not an International judge. ;) but she would have won all these events she won even with you as a judge! ;) That's how good Kamila is.

Go read some of the comments about her on YouTube people literally cannot believe what they are seeing.

The question I have will they let KV skip Europeans? How close is it to the Olympics you don't want an injury or a bad skate or anything like that.

No, if Maiia finishes 4th, she enters into tie breakers based on placements. 2+4 is higher than 3+3 of Young You, so she’ll win it without getting into total score tie breaker.
She only loses GPF ticket if she‘s 5th.

Can we call Kamila the Greatest of All Time now, already? Sensational. She has EVERYTHING
She certainly is trending that way and slowly getting into the conversation, BUT as things keep moving forward and she keeps doing this, the pressure and expectation by the time the Olympics come will be as immense as her talent. She now carries not just expectations, but win or it’s a loss expectations. Those can get real heavy in a hurry.

It may be harsh but if she bombs at the Olympics then she can’t be considered GOAT. GOAT‘s also need GOAT gold medals and those are National, Worlds and Olympics.

If we are here in April, and she has laid waste to everyone and everything skating like this, then it will be impossible to deny her.

Scary part is that she is finding a new gear with every skate. That 3A looks like CGI, it’s so effortless.

Yes of course. My bad. I forgot placings goes before total score. Thank you.

There is a lot of theories out there, of someone skipping Euros or having a skate off at Euros. I don't think the Russians will do that.
I think the top three from Nationals will go to Euros. If someone misses the podium at Euros, that someone will be replaced with the 4th skater from Nationals.
Euros is three weeks before the Olympics. And the definite decision will be made then I think. Most likely is that the three who goes to Euros will also go to the Olympics, there is no time for a skate off at the Russian Cup Final as that is after the Olympics.

I got the impression that this season will be the same as in the past: the best performances will take place long before the biggest international competitions. Most likely this will happen at the RusNat
I agree with you and there's nothing we can do about that unfortunately because the because the season is so long and I do wonder if KV will get burned out by Europeans but by Europeans and we will have seen her peak by then or nationals like we saw from Anna last year. She was incredible at nationals to hold off KV ansasha but not the same skater at worlds even though she won the gold. I can see that happening to KV but I hope not. Even though I call her the KaMissile she is only human after all.
