I've seen another interpretation that it wasn't an official withdrawal, at least not at that point, just a response to various lists that showed up with Samsonov's name of it. The Fed must have known he wouldn't compete.

Samsonov's been having serious problems for around two years now. I wonder what the chances are of him coming back at this point. Kondratiuk did after missing around as much due to the same problem. But now Samsonov will have to make his way up starting from CoR just as everyone else. He made a name skating well for his age but he's no longer a boy wonder, he'll be 17 next season and one of many. Maybe he would follow the well-trodden path of TT's men and turn up in Butsaeva's camp.
Hopefully, we’ll see next year. He did skate very well two years ago. Gogolev I think was out of competition for a prolonged period as well, and just returned this Challenge in good shape, also on the brink of 17

It's just that Egor Rukgin did that recently (which to be honest surprised me).
Rukhin never was with Butsaeva though, he was at CSKA (maybe with Buyanova?).
Tbh, Daniil wouldn't fulfil the height requirements for Butsaeva's group anyway. We would have to stack two Daniils on top of each other, otherwise it would look odd in group photos. :ROFLMAO:

Poor Danill S 😔 I hope he's OK!

I am curious though, I wonder if he's grown? Like as far as I know I haven't seen a recent photo of him. Imagine if he pops up next season as tall as Petr G or something! 😳

Makes me a bit worried for Kirill S! Perhaps they'll just be short like Old Man Menshov or Shoma (I'm pretty sure they're both my height under 160cm! )

Yes, formally he was in Buianova's group, though I think his main coaches were Tagaeva and Selitskaia. It was just that it reminded it to me.
As for Butsayeva, Erokhov seemed to be doing well at the domestic competitions, unfortunately it was not so glorious abroad (CS Warsaw Cup I believe). Rukhin's return surprised me because he qualified for the JGPF so it could be said he had a succesful season so far.

Unless he is getting there. But he could also follow Lukin to Plushenko. Honestly, I am all for the athletes finding a coach with whom they work well and without the drama. And, yes, even in the Russian-specific situation. They have to maximize their competitive years.

Honestly, the way Warsaw Challenger went for men, with that late night program, I am kinda happy Mozalev got DTM and GS.

From what I know, Daniil is still fighting with Osgood-Schlatter disease. Perhaps this can be the problem for numerous other skating boys like Kirill, Lev Lazarev, Arseniy Fedotov, Kolya Kolesnikov and others when they will start to grow.

Yeah, I still remember the pairs who were finishing at zero dark thirty... There was a picture of Trankov under a display showing 0:43...

I didn't know Menshov was that small! Always thought he was around Voronov's size (maybe because they were both quadster gramps) but a quick Google says he's 1.66m (shorter than me anyway) O.o
I noticed Kirill's little brother Nikita is quite a bit taller, but maybe that's like his blond hair - drew different cards from the genetic lottery 🤔

Yep, and a pretty good 2020-21 season domestically too. I wonder if this has anything to do with Danielian over at CSKA coming back to competition (not too successfully though), since when he was out with injury, Egor was the main senior guy. Lukin and Fedotov leaving Sambo-70 might also mean more room for him there. Or simply, personal preference for the school's training approach

Oh he's taller than I thought, but still pretty tiny, I didn't realise until I saw a photo of him next to Plushy (who's like 178cm).

Shoma though is indeed tiny.

Ha ha yes, Nikita and little sister Sofia S got the blond gene, although hopefully she won't get too tall (Heh, I'm still amused by the answer Kirill have when someone asked him if his little bro was taller than him "Yes 🤨" Although my little bro is taller than my big bro, so it's not that shocking :p)

Anyway, though I'm sad for Danill S this is exciting for Artem Kovalev who gets in.

Hope he has a fantastic competition!

I don't expect Kirill to be short, but he probably won't be as tall as Nikita, who could easily grow to 180+ cm. I would say Sofia is also likely to grow, so it's not just the blond gene they both got.

As for Samsonov, he seems to have grown somewhat, but in the summer he still looked very short for a guy, although stockier than he used to. Judging by his proportions he won't grow a lot. If you want to know who'll grow, look at long-legged kids, and, conversely, short-legged stockier guys probably won't by much.

I have a question for the experts in this thread. I have had this project of complining a list of men quad jumpers and have recently done work on the Russian scene. I had seen comments on young boys doing quads at least this season, but was kind of thinking that it was still maybe practices. Well, until yesterday when I stumbled into Nikita Malyutin... I have so far checked only senior and junior men's results, but am now wondering do I really have to start going through pre-junior results, too?

Can you help me and point towards any other such boys? Has it been going on longer than maybe the last couple of seasons? (Malyutin I found just by chance as he is doing also junior competitions.)

If there are any articles etc. on this, I would be happy to get links - I can handle reading them with the help of translators, but finding Russian stories is beyond my language skills...

Hold on, when did Fedotov left Tutberidze’s camp?
I might be mistaken! Just got that impression from an earlier post about it in this thread from around the time Lukin moved to AoP. However Tutberidze team/fan social media seem to still consider him part of the team. Probably they have more information...

If he hasn't moved, then maybe the original post overinterpreted his Instagram patterns, or he may have reconsidered and decided to remain in TT. It's hard to tell with lower-profile skaters because any transfer outside the official window means they stay registered under their original club till the next season, plus they tend not to be accompanied by the more recognisable coaches at competitions.
Anyway he seems to be having a good season, so I guess whoever he's with is working well for him.

On another note, the boys when they were younger:
It's so much harder to identify them than the girls 😅 (Spoiler: someone in the comments guessed everyone correctly)

I only figured out Kolyada (trademark landing position), Gumennik and Kovalev (faces didn't change much, despite the huge growth spurt!), Ignatov (luckily a more recent video, so recognise the costume), Danielian (head down on flip jump entry), Sarnovsky (he honestly hasn't changed much since then). Weirdly, I mistook Erokhov for Samarin and couldn't identify Samarin at all!

It's still not too widespread, I think. Most super-young boys doing quads seem to be from Tutberidze (e.g. Kolesnikov, Samsonov, Lukin was there till recently). There is also Maxim Belyavsky from Davydov's camp, who I think acquired his quad as a junior but is still fairly young. Interestingly these same teams are known for girls doing quads, maybe they introduce it across the board for both genders at an early age.

I'm not sure if it is an advantage though, as boys normally get better at both jumps and PCS around 16-17 (versus girls who seem to develop both PCS and jumps early, but get worse at jumps as late teens - the respective growth trends seem to be U- and \ -shaped respectively 🤔). So a 13-y.o. boy with 1 quad has to compete against many 17-y.o.s with similar base values, who have had more time to build power and skating skills to boot, while it isn't the case with girls.
