2022 U.S. Nationals: Senior Men's Free Skate

If Malinin goes to olys it would be weird to send him to JWC after. That's like an huge step backwards. It isn't like Hendrickx or Kurakova who had to do both events for some years because they were the only ones able to win spots.
Matteo Rizzo did it and won bronze at JWC the same year.

Dramatic country concert. :p
Srsly. They could have wandered into just about any bar on Broadway and pulled out better singers than what they wound up with. I think I heard one who actually had a great voice. Considering Scott Hamilton's connections, I would have thought he could have pulled in at least one big name. If I'd paid big bucks to go down to Nashville for this, I would be experiencing a lot of righteous anger for so many different aspects of this mess.

Which is the problem .....losing the heart of why we love this sport (speaking for we who love the artistry). Figure skating is not wrestling, is not basketball hoops/baskets, is not...well, it's one of the few sports (gymnastic being one of the other) that recognizes the ARTistry ingredient that makes this sport so special. It was inevitable that it would be MORE.....BETTER...MORE DIFFICULTY...because that's the nature of all sports but how about MORE ARTISTRY, or more recognition for the artistry that is there? The part of skating that makes your heart sing, that produces tears, that makes memories of how you....felt....when you saw this artist perform his/her/their "sport" in a way that made you recognize that it can be both: art and sport. No...now we have 4 passes in the floor routines.....now we have not only quads but how many and yes. let's go for a quad axle. Where the hell does this end? I'll tell you where - exactly where injured sports figures now rehab in the hope of walking normally again. This is all kinds of screwed up. Because we all know those skinny little girls will inevitably develop (naturally) hips etc as nature intended - to where they can't rotate as fast nor as manly revolutions. and other scenarios for both guys and girls. MORE, FASTER, MORE and ....will they finally resort to no music because...what's the point of music interpretation when you can fit another tumbling pass in there, another triple/quad combination?
I'm more on the sporty side because artistry is highly subjective. Sure, for some things like SS or TR we can objectively say who is better but for the most part it depends of the taste/sensibilty of everyone.

Brown's SL list leaves me cold while my favorite SL is Lucrezia Beccari's which i think most of people won't watch twice.

That's why i hope that artistry's weight will never rise.

I can't tell you the degree this saddens me. That's like telling Michelle Kwan everything she did, made you feel meant nothing. And that goes for Toller Cranston, Robin Cousins, and.... let's bring in, hell, Janet Lynn

Artistry (interpretation) is highly subjective, but edging, turns, transitions, all the difficult athletic things about figure skating that aren't jumps, are not really subjective. They just get lost in the "artistic" side of things, and they shouldn't, IMHO.

I think I'll eat dinner now. :coffee:

Also, for what it's worth, my least favorite judging proposal was some random person who suggested eliminating all positive GOEs. :bang:

I love Jason but if others don't you can't fault them for that. Valieva is incredible. I would never rewatch a performance of hers. They leave me cold. She is unquestionably an amazing skater. Jason does unquestionably have wonderful SS and TR. He moves his body incredibly well. If posters claim those things aren't true, I will argue. But, personal likes and dislikes can't be judged. Not all parts of PCS are subjective, artistry is subjective.
