Sportsru commentators write that Anya was originally selected to skate free after Euros, but some serious quarrel erupted yesterday regarding pairs selection, so they decided to not change anything. Allegedly Mishin was involved. :scratch2:

Thanks for the tidbit! Would love to know more if you get more info!

It just keeps looking more and more shady the more info comes out.
The fact that the Gold was already decided before Kamila even took the ice and that the ladies FS was really just a courtesy makes it even more heartbreaking for me.
Do we know who exactly got to make that decision?

Apparently Margarita Mamun (while commentating the medal ceremony) said Sasha and Anna stayed up waiting until night for the free skate team announcement. Looks like they found out with the rest of us, or at best right before.

I wish I could cuss on this forum.
Wow, that's just so needlessly cruel. It's one thing if they'd known before. But to go to training, hoping to be selected until the last minute, only to then be crushed… Just why, RusFed?!

And, of course, it's not fair to Kamila either. She's only 15 and had to come up on such short notice to skate a FS with an insane layout in the Olympics. She did extremely well considering all that.

Still, the whole situation just sucks. Poor girls. All of them.

Why in the world was he involved he had no skater in the team event, though I did notice him in the kiss and cry yesterday, and he doesn't coach pairs.

Either way this is getting more heartbreaking for Shcherbakova. I don't think Zagitova would speak out without there being some truth to it being a last minute decision to pull Shcherbakova out and it sounds like this wasn't even centered on the ladies.

Sounds like Mishin wasn't happy that Semenenko didn't get to skate, so he forced a no change for everybody.

Is there some tech coaches/specialists (active right now, not some veteran dude who stop doing it for 25-30 years already) that make comment(s) about so called 'prerotation'? With specific examples, guides, etc? I find it very plausible that from their point of view 'prerotation' can be of a no big deal.
Yuzuru Hanyu wrote about this problem in his thesis: https://mobile.twitter.com/fly1011010/status/1387850234441699332
There's a translation. The interesting part is about the Flip jump.

About Anna: I think it's extremely sad for her to not be chosen to skate in the team event. It made no sense to not give her this opportunity. She is not my favourite skater, but I really feel for her. The only reason I could accept is, they wanted to protect the other skaters from catching Covid at the team event, seeing what happened to Vincent.

30 minute practice session=about 30 flutzes. Only one fall and one pop. Anna appears to be in great shape and confident. It really struck me when was just her and Trusova. She's so consistent because she's only has one jump to practice.

It's just so infuriating and arrogant of the Russian Federation to do that. I hope winning by nine points andcstiffing Anna and T & M was worth it to them.

Well, now there will be Karen Chen - Olympic silver medalist and Shcherbakova - Olympic silver medalist. Or Trusova - Olympic silver medalist. Very fair, don't say anything. Who, I wonder, is the genius who made such a wonderful decision? It's very morale-boosting.

I don’t even have the desire to be happy for Kamila now, although she has nothing to do with it. But some pre-rotation analysts still continue, apparently out of inertia, talking about how Stanislav Shcherbakov bribed all the judges of figure skating in the world.
It's so infuriating it's hard to believe and explain but you said it well. Who knows maybe those geniuses at the Russian figure skating Federation think it would be better if Anna was out of the way in the future and maybe demoralizing her here would make her quit. Or maybe the rusfed it is just tired of the TT ladies Dynasty. ;)

Like you said this is demoralizing and there is now a slight opportunity for skater from another country to sneak onto the podium.

Like you it's hard to be happy for KV right now although it has nothing to do with her she just does what she's told and she does it quite well.

Except they bowed down to pressure and took Olympic gold medals away from 3 skaters.
Maybe, but it’s the best for team morale overall, since for both pairs and ladies, there were 2 deserving candidates, and after seeing the US results… Canadian strategy worked the best. I think they did the right thing. Save for keeping everyone in the dark, of course.

Except at least for ladies, from the sounds of it the decision had been made, why would Zagitova who doesn't say squat against the Fed specifically call out Shcherbakova when she also trained with Trusova.

But they are saying it was about pairs not the men. Let's not forget Shcherbakova being at the Olympics equals no Tuktamysheva at the Olympics...who does Mishin train?
