I must admit I had a hard time falling asleep last night after this scandal. At this point I just want Anna and Sasha to come out of all this clean. It would be a dream if one of them won the Olympic title (especially Anna) but right now I don't even care if they win medals or not 😭😭. In their favor is that they have been competing in the elite for more years, with all the doping tests involved, and I suppose they have a perfectly clean record against WADA and the ISU. The world media will destroy them in the individual event (overshadowing their performance with this scandal) but I know that the Russians and especially these girls are strong and will know how to get out of all this.

Whatever happens... if she will be found guilty of taking it or not, banned or not, Team medal lost or not, her skating the Individual and bombing from this psychological terror or not - this 15yo girl is innocent and one of, if not the, greatest talent this discipline has ever seen. No heart medication in the world can make her do what she is capable of doing without 98% of it being her talent, dedication sweat and many many tears.
Blame the adults who drugged her and tarnished her with this and protect this child at all cost!
And please get her a damn psychologist yesterday.

I'm holding out hope that Kami will not be penalised. TSL Twitter before that recent article said sources suggest there may be good news tomorrow. She doesn't deserve to suffer. And goodness Mark deserves that Gold too more than anyone.

TSL lives for drama and demonizing the Russian ladies, their idea of good news is probably very different than most of us

Just because some already want to point at Kamila and others pointing at Eteri "because it would not happen without her knowledge" (while so far there are hundreds of scenarios of what has really happened and will happen), let me tell you the story of what happened to our skater Hana Mašková at Europeans 1969. And I remind you I'm not saying thet to point my finger, it's just an example of a situation that can happen. During the Europeans Mašková was so nervous before her free skate that her mother gave her sedatives without the knowledge of her coach. It wasn't a legal problem, it wasn't a banned substance, at least that time, though the result was that Mašková became apathetic and it of course affected her performance.

Again, it's just to demonstrate one the of tons of possible cases of what happened, and to an adult skater already, not to state "it was that way".

Now the story is going the other way. Conflicting reports everywhere.

Sport.ru/ Figure skating. Not so long ago, SE reported that Russian Kamila Valiyeva will be suspended from performing in personal competitions, and replaced by Elizaveta Tuktamysheva. The reason lies in the dubious doping test of the figure skater. It was also reported that the Russian national team may be deprived of gold medals that were won in the team tournament of the Beijing Olympics.

This publication has already published a refutation. According to new data, Kamila Valiyeva will not be excluded from performances in Beijing.

The short program is scheduled for February 15th, and the free program is scheduled for February 17th.

For once I really want TSL is right. Now I've probably experienced everything in my life already...

I love Kamila, but I'm conflicted here. Whoever gave the athlete (and we don't have confirmation of that athlete) this medication knew that it was a banned substance, as these athletes don't put anything in their bodies without clearance from team doctors. If it was medically necessary to take a banned substance, an exception could have been filed (as Biles did to take her medications). If you don't penalize the athlete, whom do you penalize? There isn't anyone else to hold accountable. Banning a doctor just means another doctor will provide these substances. Banning a coach just means they'll work more behind-the-scenes, but it'll be business as usual. The country of Russia has already been penalized and that seems to have had no impact.

as these athletes don't put anything in their bodies without clearance from team doctors.
yes, they do - by accident; one Russian athlete was penalized for a microscopic amount of banned substance in his test (just like in Kamila's case, meaning it was 100% NOT used as a PED since it - the banned substance - has to be taken as a course for it to have any effect, and the amount then would definitely not be 'microscopic') - and he got it after crushing a pill for his son with a spoon (and using the same spoon later)

If you don't penalize the athlete, whom do you penalize?
the spoon?

The country of Russia has already been penalized and that seems to have had no impact.
Because in reality they have not been penalized at all. The literal only effect you can see of their punishment since then is that athletes are not called "Russian" but "from the Russian Olympic Committee" and that instead of the anthem they play Tchaikovsky... I mean. Could the effects be possibly more minor and irrelevant for the athletes?
Of course this was done as to not excessively punish hundreds of Russian athletes who never did any doping, but an actual punishment that hurts enough to change would only be excluding Russian participation from the Games for 1 cycle.

And it cannot be omitted, and please don't construe this as Russiaphobia, but it is a simple fact that Russia is a country in which doping is very popular, very rampant and very normalized. It was actually almost state endorsed and run during the Soviet Union. There is a historically provoked culture there.
But any of this is, of course, to blame on a bunch of adults in all spheres of the machinery and never ever on underaged girls working themselves into the ground to win Gold Medals for said adults.

Every failed test has an explanation other than "I intentionally took a banned substance." That athlete may in fact have ingested the substance by crushing medicines for his son, but him saying so isn't proof that's what actually happened.

If I believed in conspiracy I would say that is one ... but let's analyze the facts:

_ Any women in the ROC team would be first, no matter who would be chosen ... so why risk it?
_ ROC is under a magnifying glass for doping ... they aren't stupid .. to put an athlete with doping in the team event when they have other 2 for the win.. doesn't make sense.
_ Eteri doesn't care who wins .. can be anna, sasha, kamila... why risk Kamila
_ Kamila already had the judges and everyone on her side .. why make an stupid decision
_ Eteri wouldn't risk her reputation for anyone ... she has the gold medal in the team who cares about her name

When I read the news I thought maybe Nikita or Galliamov ... one because of his back pain (and it easy to take something for the pain) and the other because he looked exhausted ... I never thought about the girls or mark ( he wouldn't risk his title at the europeans and he is at the beginning )

So sorry but I don't believe this .. I think it's more to ruin the Eteri's team ... or the russian podium team

Even if Twitter, another site and co are super toxic at the moment, I think we on goldenskate can be better than this.

Just take a breath, relax a little bit and wait until we get official informations and not some rumours which get refuted in the next moment.

If there's something to rant about, we'll still have time to do it tomorrow.

there have already been people who claim that Eteri feeds all her athletes with doping. And not only on this forum - so said, in particular, Dave Leese.
P.S.
Just in case - to be more precise, Dave Leese stated:
When I heard they were taking heart drugs at the 2021 Russian Nationals, I heard the names of two skaters. And one of them just passed a positive test.
Do you really think that this is only one Valieva, a minor athlete? Or is she the only one who got caught?
Unfortunately, young athletes are often the victims of spoiled adults. The career and life of an athlete is destroyed by the actions of others. Kamila Valieva is a victim

Speaking of the other Russian woman, they look to be good in practice. Anna is training combos with the 3S, 3Lo, and 3T which means she'll be able to repeat the 3Lz and 3F, in addition to whatever quads she is planning. She will have a very high base value if she attempts 3 quads. I'm also hoping Sasha lands the 3A in the SP, although it's not been that great in practice.
