2022 Olympics: Men's Free Skate

I am not a big fan of Nathan but so happy for him. He has shown how important it is to work on the quad jumps when you are still young and the rest will follow later. I hope Yuma will work on adding more quad jumps next year.

What's next for Nathan? I hear he is enrolled on Yale so must be something big. Never a bad idea to diversify. Wish I had that much drive.

He studies medicine, and wants to be a medical doctor. He started already in 2018 but postponed his studies to concentrate on this Olympics.

Disappointing last group aside from Jason and Junhwan when it comes to performance. I love Shoma, but he didn't perform that well today. I found Yuma excellent in the short program but not convincing this time around. Morisi was less interesting than any program I can remember from him. And Nathan Chen? Ugh. Poor choreography. Did he just finish the program after the music? Because I think he did.

Anyway. I hope you all don't have too many emotional scars or tears from the event.

Some of my overall takeaways from the whole event (I didn't see each program, mind you):

*Yuzuru's actual skating and connection to the music in the short were better for me than many of his other performances. I also appreciated his long program more than I had expected.
*Yuma can be really charming, and we know he has great jumps.
*Matteo Rizzo's short program was a classic for me.
*Junhwan is a delight to watch.
*How interesting that Jason was but one rotation from 4th place. I gasped when he doubled the triple of his combo.
*Brendan Kerry should be proud of his efforts. I only caught the long program, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Speaking of US men- where was Dick Button in their list of American champions? He won twice.

Well, my fave Jason scored 7 points over his PB with a 280+ at the most important competition of his life, with only triples and a popped jump into top 6. (PBs across SP, LP and overall).
People with their blah, blah, blah about quads can continue staying bitter. Now I need Nathan to withdraw from Worlds to see Jason once more this season. Pls, pls, pls!

I remember in 2018, as a fan even back then, I was actually kind of glad he lost because that meant 4 more years.

I don't anticipate ever seeing him skate competitively again, but damn Nathan.... it has been a wild ride.

I hope he does worlds and gives us another cool "I'm too good to be nervous" skate.

So, so, so happy for Nathan!!! He really deserved it and it would be so unfair if he did not get it!! Wildly celebrating at 6.30 a.m. !!!! It was really worth it to stay up all night and start a day with champagne!!!

Figure skating.... Well congrats!

If you give Kagiyama 94, you have to give Nathan at least 97. Both is of course wrong. But you know what I mean.

One does not attend Yale for fun. You have goals... and you probably can't do both.
