2022 Olympics: Women's Free Skate

Congrats to everyone and special to Anna.. That girl is just iron will!

Now ... Give a break to the girls! Sasha is mad .. isn't beautiful ok .. but imagine yourself loosing something after dedicating your life to it ... probably you would to
Kamila .. after what everyone did to her in this olympics is a miracle she compete .. at this point I don't car about the dope case... they try to destroy a girl who skate beautiful. So congrats on her skate to.

Unfortunately, skaters don't have the privacy they usually have after they skate. Seeing tears and meltdowns are not uncommon. But usually it's not caught on camera after an event. But its the Olympics, so cameras are everywhere, especially given the high profile due to the Valieva issue. I wouldn't say its poor sportsmanship unless she refused to get her medal. Until then, I take it as a young girl not quite knowing how to deal with disappointment after doing your very best and still not being enough. That is a tough pill for anyone, nevermind a young girl.

Couldn´t see the last 4 skaters live (thank you dad :rolleye:) and have rewatched now.
Anna didn´t have an easy season and then she skated like that at the Olympics. This girl is such an amazing competitor. I love her since the 3A turned seniors and a lot of people were saying that Anna is the weak link and that she should have stayed in juniors. And now she is Olympic champion.:love2: I´m really sad that she couldn´t really celebrate her victory, but I hope the happiness will come later.

To be honest, I am really disappointed with Sasha´s behaviour. Yeah, I know, she´s only 17, but Anna is supposed to be her friend. To react like that was really weak sportsmanship. I can´t imagine that Anna would have reacted like that if Sasha would have won. And now they have to spend the night together :drama:I thought Sasha´s PCSs were rather high for what she showed. I mean, we know that she just cares about jumping, but that´s not all what skating is about.

Kaori is really growing on me and she really deserves this medal. And the judges seem to like her more now as well. She got much higher PCSs than at worlds last year.

I have to say I was really sad for Kamila. She is just 15 and had to go through all this. I was disappointed that she was allowed to start in this competition. But to see her so sad was really heartbreaking.

Because she never won a senior gold medal. It’s always Scherbakova, Kostornaya or Valieva. I think she probably had that belief that if she lands all her quads, she’ll win. And the way the scores went, even if she landed 3A, she wouldn’t have won.
She would have - she beat Anna in LP and would have similar SP score. Of course, she would not beat clean Kamila. But....

Leaving aside Trusova's meltdown, the most surreal footage was to see the coaches and Russian officials completely abandoning the winner Sherbakova. The brilliant editing by the broadcast director from all Russians team members consoling Valieva to a coaches trying to calm down Trusova to Sherbakova quietly and shamefully standing alone in a corner looking confused was something out of sitcom. I felt I was watching The Office at Olympics.
Trusova was with Dudakov. Eteri Tutberidze and Daniil Gleikhengauz just disappeared.

Congratulations to Anna! Such a clutch free skate to win a very deserved gold. I don’t think it’s my fave programs of hers but technically she was superb.

Soooo happy for Kaori too!!! Skated her very best and was rewarded appropriately for it. She was the skate of the night for me and I’m thrilled for this achievement. It’s interesting how 2018 Osmond-like this was where she was out-TESed but still was brilliant to claim bronze.

Trusova - I *was* happy for her and thrilled for her quads but her PCS was way too high and her meltdown after makes me glad she didn’t win gold.

Valieva - Terrible skate for her, and 70 PCS was atrocious … 4th was the right placement but she should have been 7th in the FS. The 9’s from the judge la are just shameful. I hope she can push past this experience but this really is the best outcome and a blessing for her (and the other athletes who actually get their medals). It’s a bit of sweet karma for the Eteri camp to be denied the sweep but one wonders what could have happened if things had been different. Very sad for her, but happy for the sport of figure skating.

I have got this whole thing on record. I will replay much of it several times in the coming weeks it seems
But why, this is awful, 😔 I can't sleep and it's almost 2am.

Like what part do you want to relive?! Kamila falling apart in the FS? Her falling apart in the KnC? Sasha shattering into a million pieces at the realisation she'll never, ever be good enough?! Or Anna's shock and confusion and uncertainty about whether she can celebrate this huge moment?

This isn't a soap opera, these are REAL girls, with real feelings.

So sorry to see Kamila make so many mistakes. She is a lovely skater and I love some many qualities in her skating. I don't know what happened with the drug test, but somehow her journey was derailed. It would've been better to let her stand on her own win or lose. Her situation is not one I would wish on anyone. I hope she takes some time to process this and not let it ruin her. So sorry to see this young girl suffer. So sorry that this sideshow has derailed this event for so many.
