2022 Olympics: Women's Free Skate

Yes, I really feel for Anna. She seems to have such a good heart, she can't celebrate when her team mates are upset. That moment at 2020 nationals was horrible. And history repeats itself.

For all I know, Anna is a true hero.
She's going to be fine. Despite a few dejected training photos, she's the one person from that camp who looks like they really enjoyed themselves and actually tried to have a good time at these Olympics. She was watching competitions, swapping pins, having fun with others. I honestly think she had a decent time and from her videos there's a sense that she's consciously (and very sensibly) trying to make the most of her experience.

My viewpoint is that no judging system would not let Sasha win should she land a 3A or 4T. No judging system would let Anna win should she botch one of her jumps. But we have Anna with 2 skates of her life vs. Sasha with a fall and stepout. Then we have 2 clean extra quads vs. much bigger artistry.

Just look at the old video where young Anna and Sasha dance side by side. Sasha is a jumper - Anna is a complete package - the one people here always talk about. 2 clean quads vs. artistry? It's a close call. I vote for Anna and I am not "they"
I vote for Trusova. Scherbakova not receiving any calls when everyone else was slaughtered is likely an artifact of judging in this event.

I was watching live on USA Network, and I can tell you that while the filming was going on, they showed Anna standing therre alone, and as Johnny and Tara were commenting on that, Dudakov went over to Anna and gave her a big hug. I don't recall exactly Johnny's comment, but it was something like "finally" or "good".
I saw that too. But it was more of a blimp in otherwise a very long and super uncomfortable footage of her standing there all alone that seemed to never end.

Her flair is impressive (youtube office space flair)

Trusova had her break down behind the scenes, where tbh, we shouldn’t have seen it, then did what was expected of her on the podium. And given the set of circumstances, she managed.
I suspect because of the covid restrictions, there technically wasn't a space to hide and it was just played out in front of everyone.

Sasha scored almost 71 points for an jump orientated skate. The PCS are really not to blame. Anna may have her issues as well, but I´m actually happy that Sasha´s approach of "I just want to jump and don´t care for anything else" wasn´t successful. I hope she finds a coach that can convince her that skating is more than jumping.
I don’t. I believe that outstanding performance should win vs a mediocre one and that it shows a bias toward what a woman ‘should be’. I don’t like that. Scherbakova sort of carry the flag of ‘nothing particularly special, but really neat, good enough girl’ and seeing it win time after time is annoying. She is just so… gray.

What was outstanding on Sasha´s skate? That she skated from jump to jump? Even the skaters in the first group made more of an effort to perform a program than Sasha did. You think she was underscored in PCS, I think 65 points in PCS would have been enough. So we can agree to disagree on what is an outstanding performance.

I think it’s just freaking awesome. 🤷‍♀️

That's your bias speaking. Scherbakova's performance wasn't mediocre at all.

Also, Trusova won the free program, she lost overall because she was deservedly behind after the short.

Womens figure skating has never, ever seen a low like it has today. things need to change.
I think most of the other skaters conducted themselves with dignity.
Bonaly is famous for winning a silver and thinking it should have been gold and ripping the silver medal off during the ceremony.
In all fairness to Surya, she did later regret her actions saying she was just frustrated. She was welcomed back warmly by most of the skating community at the gala at 94 Worlds. This was the worlds after Tonya/Nancy and Oksana Baiul winning the Olympics, none of whom were present at Worlds. Yuka Sato of Japan was the surprise winner in her home country.

You are absolutely right, and I agree with you. She spent a lot of time alone, and it was at a moment that should've been full of joy and celebration. Instead she was left to wonder how to act.

Like, all I see in figure skating is girls coming out to out-Princess one another. Even the ones like that same Higuchi, who puts the silly tiara in her hair in an effort to hide that she could be something different. And Trusova doesn’t. I wish for once, brush and bold and screw you, princesss, had won the prime time. Sure, it’s my bias, but why not? Everyone has bias.

I also like that Trusova brings a different note and I admire her fierceness a bit, but that has nothing to do with the quality of skating. And most of her elements lack quality. And btw Kaori isn´t much princess like either.

65? Karen Chen recieved a 65 and is eons ahead of Trusova in PCS. even that would have been a gift.

its absolutely INSANE to me the Russians themselves and fans of the Russian women are blaming the ISU for Kamila's meltdown and placement on social media. Anna Pogorilaya herself is claiming Kamila's positive test was a set up. These people cannot humbly lose or put the blame where it appropriately belongs, on Kamila's team, because they are Russian and can do no wrong. this is so disgusting.
It is also disgusting to blame people around without solid evidence. Where you there when they doped her? Are we sure it was the team? The doctor? The grandparetns? The dog maybe?
