2022 Olympics: Women's Free Skate

Did anyone else notice that they did cut in the TV pictures somewhere between Kaori entering the ice of the flower ceremony and then they all suddenly was on the ice for the flower ceremony? When Kaori went on the ice you could hear Sasha still scream and cry in the background. And then it was suddenly like it was a lot later because Sasha was out there and had stopped crying.
Yes, I noticed this as well.

I understand what you mean and I like Sasha. And I know how these girls are being treated and that only gold counts. I just didn't like her behavior but there shouldn't have been cameras there anyway. These girls never get a break.

Sasha should get criticized now, this is the time to do it. Otherwise she will never learn from her mistake.

If someone try to show her the video years from now when she's much older, if she grow up, then I will defend her then.

I lived through the ‘88 Olympic Battles, the ‘94 Nancy-Tonya calamity, the ‘02 judging scandal, but holy cow, this takes the cake for emotional upheaval!

My heart breaks for precious Kamila, with the weight of the world on her tiny shoulders and the baying mob screaming at her, delighting in her downfall.

I give Alexandra a huge pass for her tears. So she had an emotional breakdown, it happens. It’s the biggest sports stage in the world and she gave it her all, but it just fell thisshort. Of course she’s bitterly disappointed. And again, you have a mob in the form of cameramen in her face at her lowest moment. It’s abhorrent how people’s low moments are a form of entertainment to be broadcast across the globe.

Anna and Kaori were the pictures of grace, beauty and strength. Their performances and composure speak for themselves. Marvelously done and thank you for providing hope to us fans in a wretched situation.

i am sorry but the last person someone should feel sorry for is eteri. sorry but there is no way anyone on this world shoudl feel sorry for her right now not with how she handled everythingy how she keft kamila unprotect ,hoe she blamed kamila when she came of the ice.
Eteri isn’t blamed Kamila, she asked her -
Why did you stop competing? Why did you add something?

It's not surprising that the "We are Team T."-vibe evaporated (it seems to be fragile as one could see f.e. at RUSnats December 2019), when it came to the main prize. It happened in 2018 with less pressure and 2 skaters involved, it happened now. It would have been easier with 2 TT skaters and a shared TE gold for both of them. Ironically that situation could have occured with the test result known earlier ...

Sasha can't complain about the points she got with this program that doesn't disturb her at all while doing all her jumps. And regarding her jumps (would they all have been clean, she would have won btw - I doubt that Anna could have replaced one of her 2A with a 4Lz successfully) - they are great risks and the system doesn't exactly reward this - 3 quads & 1 3A is the magic winning formula in the FS as one can go for additional 3-3s. Flip and Lutz are obviously her stronger jumps, Toe has become quite unstable, often with a noticeable lean on it, and Flip/Lutz are worth way more anyways. 3A was NOT wise at all in the SP - Plushenko couldn't stop her from jumping, Eteri can't. In the end, she made history, but payed the prize for that.

Kami had one performance without any errors (RUSnats) and one without any significant errors (Rostelecom - the board came too close for 4T/3S); Skate Canada turned out shaky regarding 3A and at Euros she produced a skate nearly ex aequo with Anna (168+) which would have lost today as well. Back then it wasn't peak time, but there wasn't any additional problem - nevertheless she appeared a bit derailed there and Anna was getting closer already. I was a bit surprised when Nikita stated Kami being a fragile little girl during TE - but regarding the whole season up to this point he was right ... afterwards it was astonishing how she survived the SP.

Anna - what an achievement. She was always the one destined to be left with silver somehow ... first vs. Sasha, who simply outjumped anyon, then vs. Aliona, so she worked hard to overcome the disadvantage of not having a 3A after the SP - and managed to do it once (RUSnats). Then vs. Kami, with an even greater disadvantage. During this very uneven season she slowly came back; without her broken shoes perhaps even the third quad could have worked out (would have resulted in 185+/-, not so far from the area Kami should avoid mistakes). After all these problems, bad trainings in Peking and an unfortunate RUSnats I'm glad the gold went to Anna, it was the best possible outcome in this drama.

Earlier in the thread, someone asked if those who didn't think Kamila deserved to compete were happy.

No, I'm not happy.

This is the most shameful Olympic episode in recent memory, and it didn't have to be that way.

The fallout is coming. There won't be any winners when it does.

I like Anna the most out of the Russian girls. Of course, I have sympathy for all of them, but I feel the most sad for Anna, but I think she will also have the best ability to cope with everything. There's clearly too much drama going on over at Team Eteri, but she is the calm and steady one who emerged from the storm. A fine example indeed.

Yeah no, you're right. When I wrote my initial post I was badly shocked, but honestly, a lot of what happened today is on the coaching team. Sasha is also seventeen. I know it wasn't a display of good sportsmanship, but when I was that age I probably had meltdowns over smaller things. Luckily for me, they weren't filmed.
i have to agree since i had the same initial reaction. i think we were all feeling A LOT of different emotions over what was happening, shock being a big one for me. it was just jarring to see.

Everyone who is criticizing Sasha for being angry and disappointed should just chill out. I've had bigger outrages for wayyy smaller things. Let her feel it out, there's no good in keeping your emotions in.
She's not the first to have a meltdown and she won't be the last. Some skaters years older have acted worse in the past. Difference is they were allowed to let out the steam away from the press. They don't do that anymore. Now it's all in their face a dn Aleksandra is a victim of that

Honestly, this is what I thought too. I've heard many many many coaches say this to skatees even in the lower levels (meaning prejuv, etc) and I've never thought of them as "monsters".

It´s the timing. Nobody said Eteri isn´t allowed to give her coaching talk, but she should have done it later. This wasn´t the time to blurt out with what she should have done different. This was most likely Kamilas worst day in her life and normal human beings knows this is not how you should react right away when someone is very obvious hurting.
