but there is just no way with such an even playing field that Kimmie should be five or six points ahead of Zhang.

Compare the jump elements one for one:

Solo Jump: Caroline probably got -1.5 GEO for flutzing, Kimmie got -3 for falling

Combo: Caroline ur and fell out of her combo, thus it will count as a 3-2 with at least -2 GEO, Kimmie did a 3-2 with probably +1.5 GEO

Axel: Caroline reportadly ur the jump, but even if not, she was super slow in and out of it, with barely any hight. so no GEO, while kimmie probably got +1.5 GEO. Chances though are Caroline was downgraded

Add that to the fact the Kimmie would naturally get a few extra points in PCS just for speed and edging, and the placements make total sense for me.
