Mens Free Skate

The Two Footed Flip

A very close one but I think it was the two footed flip that cost Johnny Weir the gold. Too bad, I think he is the better skater. Evan's wonky landings really impacted the look of his program.

Great comp!!! for me, johnny is the winner - and by that I mean he overcame his demons and skated beautifully (personally, I also liked his LP and SP way better, but that's a separate issue)....IF Weir had added the double loop on the last combo jump or did a clean flip, he likely would have won....Congrats to Evan, all the skaters and special shout out hug to Weir!!!!!

Johny Weir should win. He did great short and long. His jumps are much better than Evan's. It's not fair for Johny. Poor guy.

Ouch, poor Jonnhy. Well, to be fair, they tied, they both won. One won the SP and the other won the LP. Couldn't they stay tied?

It sounds quite unfair, I know. But that's the rule... Actually, 2 years ago something quite similar happened in gymnastics when the AA gold medal was won by 0,001. People said they should have tied.

Johnny was robbed. He had the better program and cleaner jumps. He's the National Champ to me. Rock on, Johnny!

Alright.

I just watched this telecast on NBC and see that they finished in a tie for points but because Evan won the FS he won the gold. Hhmmm. I think I really need to see the actually breakdown of the scores not just this magical displaying of digits telling us the accumulation because from the two programs I saw tonight I thought that Weir clearly won the FS when you compare jump for jump and more importantly the landings of those jumps. I appreciate Evan as a performer but does anyone really accept the "passion" he's displaying on the ice as really believable? Idk, his footwork sequence was definitely better than Weir's but that's the only part of his program that I would really grade above Weir. Am I alone in this thinking?

Lastly, I really thought Abbott did a better performance overall that Carriere. And that music Carriere uses. WhoTH picked that nonsense? I've never liked it from the first time I saw it on youtube.

They did not fairly deduct Evan on his mistakes. Two majorly flawed 3 axels which received mainly 0s for GOE lol. Two judges had the nerve to give him +1 on the 3f-3t he messed up. Thats a mess.

Wow, that's horrible.

Apparently you missed the prior interview when Johhny said openly that he doesn't like Evan. He then went on to make completely inappropriate comments about his roommates, which I won't go into. Obviously, you missed it. As for their behavior on the couch, it's graceless and does nothing to enhance the image of the sport. If you can't see that, there isn't anything else I can say to you about it.

Um...the comment about his roomates was just in refference to the truth booth they use on the reality MTV program "the real world" in which the people who live together in the house go into a private room and talk about different situations going on in the house(he felt as if he was on that show having to talk about his skate in that booth) His comment was not really about his roomates because he has "no" roomates. People always try to read too much into what Johnny says! BTW...he did great today and should of totally won.

Pretty much agree with everything, especially that disgusting music Carriere was skating to ugh. It nearly put me to sleep.

If Evan would just flailing his darn arms all over the place I would actually like his footwork.

Weir should have won regardless of any omitted double loops- he really did enough tonight. Also, am I the only one that thinks Lysacek's 3As were sketchy in the rotation department?

i'm actually trying not to be mad....does anyone know if there were spin and step sequence level differences between the two (evan and johnny). I keep saying to myself: he forgot the 2 loop; he glitched the flip....his fault; BUT the rest was so much cleaner than Evan's, I'm having a hard time convincing myself it was a tie.

But - Johnny and Evan should both be proud, they overcame the nerves and that is so huge!!!!!

Well, another example of ridiculous judging to add to the books. There's no way Evan should have won that.

Exactly. Apparently, that FS score Evan posted was a personal best. I was thinking to myself, "You've got to be kidding. That was a personal best performance?" Just crazy. I do like the technical aspect of the point system but some of it has to be changed, such as value for specific jumps and maybe a bonus for doing all types of jumps (for when a skater like Lambiel can win w/o doing a 3x for example).

Considering what happened the last time there was a "tie" in figure skating, I doubt it. :p

I'm actually surprised there's a way to break a tie under CoP considering these kinds of situations are supposed to be "impossible" (to quote Scott Hamilton) under this judging system. But l guess nothing's impossible in this sport anymore.

Ya know, Johnny should have put in a 2x,2t,2l combo. But yeah, that was a costly thing to forget not having a 3 jump combo in there. It doesn't even have to be a particularly difficult one to get major points out of it.

For those of us not in the know about MTV, that makes no difference at all. It is completely off the wall to say something like that on live t.v. Do you really think that is acceptable just because you like the way he skates??? It's not. It's also not funny even if it was meant tongue in cheek. The comment about not liking Evan was deliberate and not tongue in cheek. It was just rude. Saying the word "b****" isn't acceptable either. In his attempt to be different and witty he comes across as a jerk. End of discussion for me.

Well.....I have never been a Weir fan, that's for sure, but I have to say :clap::clap::clap::clap: you were great. Not sure what the judges were on - you won hands down - IMHO!!!

Congrats to Carriere who at 18 put down two great skates as well .... he an Chan have great futures ahead of them
