Gracie Gold

Even if it’s not finished, she’s a good enough skater and a high enough level to do 3 combos, even if they are double lutz, double toe, single loop. If she had put a single jump on the end of one of the jumps at Philly she would have gotten the World’s long minimum. I’m a huge Gracie fan, and have been since I saw her compete as a Juvenile. But I never did understand why she leaves out combos. I hope there are at least two combos on her protocol!
Thank you! This is what frustrates me about Gracie. The lack of effort. Im willing to guess she missed three jumps in two of her combos. These few points can make a difference in the competitions she is in. Does she not understand that there are three combos allowed in the free skate?

Well it´s ok, but it will be interesting to see the protocols to see if she singled some jumps or did almost no combos again. But let´s look at the bright side. Last time she had a horrible SP with a score under 50 she imploded in the FS too. So it´s the best score she had in while with a bad start. So of course it´s not what we hoped after Philly, but I would say she is still improving and this was another small step, fighting to get those points.

I´m sure she will do another NQS.

I´m still hoping the reason she wasn´t given the US Challenger is because they have given her a spot at another one already, like Lombardia, Nebelhorn or Finlandia? I just read yesterday on the home page of the German Skating Union that there will be entries from US at Nebelhorn Trophy. For sure that means US must have sent them a list already?

She has scored 180 and 150 so far, it´s not horrible. Hasn´t Sonja Hilmer scored between 150-160 points and she is still given a Challenger? Gracie also was on the podium in Philly. She should be given a Challenger IMO, if she won´t get the SA spot. But, right now I doubt she will be given both.
Sonja scores 165-180. With her PB around 177. Sonja is more consistent and even though she has an easier layout, she actually does three combos in the free skate even though they are all double jumps 😳

Gracie managed to land three triples in both the short and long programs. The two easiest…. Two 3T’s and one 3S. But, her combo 3T + 2A is new and gave her 9+ points. So, I’m happy about that.

But, she really needs to up her technical elements outside the 3Lz 3T combo. Because outside this combo, the rest of the program isn’t that hard.

I don’t think it’s lack of effort, but It is frustrating. Looking at protocols, she must have fallen on her opening Jump, the triple lutz. Considering that, the program wasn’t too bad, but she only had one combo. so, she left out three potential jumps. Good news is her step sequence was a 3 and all spins were a Level 4, so she increased her levels from Philly, 😁! Her GOE looks a little lower Than last time overall. Say she had put a double toe on the end of her double lutz and a double toe and single loop on the end of her final triple toe, she would have added almost 3.5 points to her score, assuming a 0 GOE (Since her jumps tend to get positive GOE, it would probably be more like 4 points). I do Think there were some positives from this competition, she didn’t give up after a rough short, she didn’t give up after falling on the first jump in the long, all level 4 spins in the long, etc. So, I hope she takes this as a learning experience, and keeps improving. She has really come a long way!

She's such a fighter.

Oh and I hope we get to see a picture of them on the podium! And I believe Gracie currently has the 3rd highest NQS score from South Atlantics behind Ting and Jill, so that’s good! Yay!

Yes. Spins and step sequence looked like they have improved. But, maybe, the judges just wanted to help her…. I wish I could see the actual skate. Also, don’t forget that 3T + 2A sequence 😜
Sadly, I don’t think she has come a long way….. I wish there was more improvement. I wish by this point, she can add a 2T 2T to her 3S on a consistent basis. Her combos should be 3Lz 3T, 2A 2T 2T or 3S 2T 2T and 3T + 2A….

So, she has the third spot out of four for sectionals? How does it work?

Well after seing the protocols i´m more impressed because she really had a terrible start. Also she did go for the triple lutz, but took the fall, instead of a doubling the jump.

And she really did a 3T-2A? At first I thought it must be a 2A-3T but the protocols really says so. Isn´t that incredible hard? Can you imagine she just put that out late in the program. It also says she actually planned a 3F-2A which sounds more difficult :scratch2:Can she do a step between? Trying to wrap my head around a 3T-2A, has anybody else done that before?

Good to hear that her spins has improved as well!

The 3F is always planned and she ends up doing a 3T instead. The triple flip is her most difficult jump. I prefer that she goes for two 3T and two 3S

Ok guys, the entries list of Lombardia Trophy are published and Amber Glenn and Hanna Harrell got the spot for US, and Hannah Lofton and and Anna Marie Ziegler are substitutes.

Hanna Harrell recently scored 128 points at Cranberry Cup.

I now really expect Gracie to either get Finlandia Trophy or Nebelhorn Trophy when I see who US decides to send to Europe. I see Hannah Lofton doesn´t have a envelope funding and she is substitute, so I find no argument to not send Gracie anymore considering she still has the 5th best score of the US ladies so far this season. Unless of course they are using her age as argument.
Age shouldn´t be an argument.

Edit: Sorry, I mixed Hanna Harrell with Hannah Herrera at first. But apparently they both scored around 129 points at Cranberry Cup, but Harrell competed in seniors and Herrera in juniors, boy they have very similar names 😄

I'm angry. If age was not an argument for Mariah, it should not be an argument for Gracie either. I'm holding my FOFS membership money until I see what they do. They KNOW more people will watch if Gracie is there (any comp). Or maybe they really are that clueless. At every comp I go to (assuming Gracie is there) I see/talk to other fans. Anna Marie Ziegler? Are you for real? (I think it's Ava?)

No shade on the young lady, but Gracie is FAR more qualified.

I surely hope they are planning to send her to one of those! I would be ticked if they are using age as an argument because they are totally fine using her to market for their competitions. Every time I see new names pop up for these competition, I always fleetingly wonder if she has turned down International opportunity. But I can’t imagine that’s the case, because why would she still be competing and training if she didn’t want to compete internationally? I know I mentioned earlier that Gracie is supposed to be in Alaska for a seminar September 10-11 (according to Road to Gold Instagram). Those first two challengers are that weekend. Maybe she asked to be considered for a later Challenger because of this? I know Mirai has been going in her place to some of these seminars, but I imagine that the pay also helps with her training costs. So, I would guess she would like to do as many as possible…anyways just my rambling and I hope we see her at Finlandia or Nebelhorn.

Wops you are right, should be Ava not Anna  Anyhows, bottom line is Gracie was way ahead of Ava at Philly as well, where Ava only got 146 points. I´m wondering if results of last years Nats could play a role? Because Ava placed 2. in junior. If they assigned the spots after Philly it does not make sense. But again, I chose to still believe that Gracie will get another Challenger, so that is the reason. Deadline for Nebelhorn Trophy entries is on Friday, please let Gracie get the spot!!

Amber isn´t very young either, and had some similar issues like Gracie with consistency, and she got the spot at Nebelhorn still, all though her SB is lower then Gracie now. She did not have a result from Nats either because of WD, only difference is that Amber got the envelope funding, but since some of the substitutes doesn´t have it either I don´t think that is the reason.

I have wondered about that too, but I would think she want to go if it isn´t conflicting with her calendar. Good point about the seminar!! I didn´t think or know about that. I really hope that is the reason. Also she probably have to do them due to not having the envelope funding! But Nebelhorn Trophy and Finlandia would better dates. Let´s have or fingers crossed
