2022-23 Russian Local Events – Discussion

Masha landed her 3A not fully rotated but she stayed up and it looked great!
She was able to hide the missing rotation pretty well, but I'm not surprised it was underrotated, she was really slow going into the jump and the preparation was very long (kind of like the Korean skaters with 3A).

With a bit more confidence, speed and a quicker preparation, it hopefully won't be an issue in the future, as she has good height and rotational speed.

This is the 1st fully clean program ive ever seen from Arina! :cheer::cheer:

tho I still kinda side eye to focus on the 4T when she still doesn't have a 3lz strong enough to be inserted into the free and a shaky 3F:shrug:

Wow, Arina's 4T is coming along really nicely, her second 4T might have been a bit under, but nonetheless well done.

Just a shame they didn't have her do a different combination after she fell on the first 4T in the elements section. She also, weirdly enough, doesn't have a 3Lz and only does "easier" -3T combinations (3Lo+3T and 2A+3T).

i was so annoyed with her coaches for not going for one safe 3-3 combination in the elements portion, causing her to not get a combo as she fell on both 4ts but now that I think of it her flip isnt stable to be a guaranteed jump and she probably would have struggled to put a 3t after it anyway. So I guess it was worth the risk as a 3lo-3t combo would have seen her score quite low anyway:shrug:

Meanwhile, Riana Kadyrova had a clean free skate. She did all her combos in the second half. She got 69.25 TES, 128.88 for the free program and 192.01 in total.

It's a pity she didn't skate like this at her stages.

If she had done a 3Lo+3T like the one she did in the Short, she could have had like 5 points more from the elements section, and that might make a huge difference in this field (or maybe not, who knows 🤷‍♀️).

IIRC Ural and Volga regions have 7 spots for older age.

1. Taisiya Shcherbinina 195.84: 67.77 (36.84+30.93), 128.07 (65.77+62.30)
2. Ekaterina Tsipukhina 194.30: 63.53 (33.83+29.70), 130.77 (68.91+61.86)
3. Riana Kadyrova 192.01: 63.13 (34.30+28.83), 128.88 (69.25+59.63)
4. Dina Khusnutdinova 190.57: 64.99 (35.85+29.14), 125.58 (65.07+60.51)
5. Daria Sadkova 189.27: 60.80 (30.98+30.82), 128.47 (66.93+62.54)
6. Maria Krasnozhenova 175.39: 59.11 (32.74+26.37), 116.28 (59.97+56.31)
7. Kristina Statinova 170.53: 50.61 (24.68+26.93), 119.92 (65.18+54.74)

Oooh, a really cool and unique combination by Iuliia Zigorenko: 3Lz+2A+2Lo

She is having issues reliably rotating all of her jumps and her skating skills are not particularly strong, but this was a good skate for her. I noticed that she seems to be quite tall and muscular for her age, and that definitely impacts her in a way a lot of the other girls aren't (yet) being impacted in.

Still, this was overall an excellent competition for her (183.05 without elements is one of her highest scores so far), even if she's not close to qualifying for Novice Nationals.

Is Vika Barakhtina coached by Alena Kostornaia's pre-Team Tutberidze coach?
Her jumps are very, very similar to Alena's in technique, from their huge size, effortlessness and the extreme leg wrap right down to the questionable Lutz edge.

Unfortunately, she'll probably just miss the qualification for Novice Nationals (unless something drastic happens), but this was by far her best competition of the season, well done ❤️

Oh, Alena P. :( That 4Lz is just not working out for her in competition, I wonder if the issue is with her posture/arms during the preparation phase or the preparation length... Both stick out to me.
And the fall on the last jumping element was just the nail in the coffin, unless somebody else has issues she's unfortunately off the podium.:frown:
