2022-23 Russian Local Events โ€“ Discussion

Well, it was a good, almost clean skate with a 4S (step-out on a 3Lo and iffy landings on two of the other jumps, plus her finishing after the music)...

But a singular quad, whether landed or not, would never be able to keep up with three landed quads anyway, and a three-point lead is not enough to make up for that, so she'll have to settle for bronze.

Margarita did a serious remontada. I thought it was thanks to elements but seems like she would have won even without it.
I didn't expect a quads fest. Novices nowadays...

These little girls were ALL so wonderful, just on another level really. I love quads, and Quads are super exciting to watch-BUT, I wish they were only allowed at Junior, Senior levels.

i couldn't watch yesterday last 2 girls group live but now that I have caught up with. I feel like its safe to say this is the most talented generation in Russian girls figure skating and im not only talking about the quad girls here:clap::cheer2:

Liza is such a tiny power house her only mistake was a step out in the short , but obviously with the top girls having quads she couldn't really make up for that mistake.

Lidia continues her great season with a clean skate and all 3 combos backloaded! This truly is her breakout season and im so happy for her!

Alina, I feel so bad for this girl. I think they need to cool it with 4lz attempts for now most of the times they really dont look landable, she has had some fall heavy free skates this season. Thankfully the judges do like her a lot and are willing to save her but for how long.

Lena landed her 4S cleanly in a skate finally! sadly tiny mistakes here and there saw her drop to 3rd. Imreally interested to watch how her coaching change will help/affect her going forward.

Valeria also landed her 4S cleanly for the 1st time and the rest of her skate was clean enough for her to climb back up tp 2nd!

Margo was simply amazing. I love that she couldn't hide her smile at the end of her skate and during the spin she was fully grinning. She knew she had won. Interesting thing about this competition tho it kinda showed us that at the very least in moscow Novice competition the Eteri bonus just might be dead. She fell on the 3lz-3t and her sp score got destroyed, a mistake her peers have done before this season but have never scored this low with it. The judges dont seem to be as fond of her as they are of the rest. So im curios as how that will affect her scores vs others in the future or if the judges opinion of her will change as she keep this momentum up.

Other girls that didn't make the cut but caught my eye were

Victoria Barakhtina you can tell she is Zhguns student by her skating skills, style and sadly also by that leg wrap.

Moiseevas girls especially Nosova, what can I say they are such a talented bunch!

Polina Solntseva such a talented little girl sadly she couldn't hold on after the short and didn't have the best of free skates

Polina Tikhonova has improved a lot over few seasons and I continue to be very impressed with her skating she is such a beautiful skater. if she gets her rotation in control she could be a big threat.

Yuliana Chereneva skated fully cleanly but the judges really were stingy with her Goe. Team tut screwed up by switching her to represent Moscow especially if they weren't planning on having her skate in lots of novice competition to familiarize the judges with her and show them how stable she is.

Flip isnt working for baby Kirill this competition but he did well otherwise and qualified for the novice nats! he is so adorable!
