Working on program cover prototype.
No one is allowed to drop out! LOL! (Click on pic to see flags at bottom)
You would be wrong. Do I like Asian skaters for the people they are, for their cultural values? For their politeness and respect of others and authority? Because for some reason, their cultures produce artistic skaters instead of people I wont bad mouth (Here at least). It is no fluke that Jason Brown likes the Japanese and they like him and he speaks Japanese. But age has nothing to do with it....Miki Ando, Fumie Suguri, Midori Ito, and the glorious Mao Asada.....and the best that the world has ever seen...Yuna Kim....If that is your cover, I am going to guess that Ladies’ is your favorite discipline, and that the younger Asian ladies are your favorites. Am I right?
Dance & men for me, and I also enjoy a good pair![]()
I mean last year they didn’t. I seem to remember 2nd tier often being sent. But my memory can be faulty.I don't think USFS has never not sent the top 3 from nationals excluding age restrictions or one of skaters/teams opting out
I watch practices. Post to GS on my phone. Make new friends every time I go to a comp.Question to the experienced fans: what does one do during the 2/3 hour breaks in between events? I don't want to use a lot of money on uber and lyft so I probably wouldn't head back to my Airbnb. I'm also going alone so I don't have anyone to hang out with...

I put on the cover of my program the skaters that Korea and Japan sent. I like Wakaba and I would have put her on it if they sent her....
But I will be frank with you. I like artistry and the hot mess that US mens Figure skating has become left me cold except for a very few. The system rewards skaters who do tricks and have they can have no facial expression or a silly grin....their body artisty is forced.......the arena exploaded and the roof came off for Jason, just like it did for his Riverdance. Watch Rudy Galindo's YMCA or Todd Eldrige's Gettysburg. MK lasted for as long as she did cause people loved her artistry...never saw her do a 3A or 4T but she packed the house.
I like Ice dance too but for me, I miss the days of the Shibs, Meryl and Charlie, Tan and Ben.
Pairs has changed too. I loved seeing the Chinese pairs...and I get to see the wonderful Japanese pair R and R... at 4 ccs....now go back in your time machine...the beautiful spiral bound media guides we were given in the season 2009-2010 and look at how many quality exciting pairs the US was fielding...there were 6-7 pairs you couldnt NOT watch.......
So...is it me? Have I just become an old cynical grumpy old man?
The answer lays in the attendance figures at US Nats....You would have had no issues moving up to the second third or fourth rows...NO LINES AT THE WOMEN's BATHROOMS.
Now look at the attendence at Japanese Nats.....and look at their juniors coming up? And look at all those people wearing masks and obeying the request to not scream....
I dont understand why more people HERE are not going there. I paid $358 for a front row seat. See what people pay for a seat at a game of the ball....see how far they travel....see how they party.....expensive hotel rooms, meals, etc...and many are not rich....
Half this country is with in a two day drive of Colorado. Two people in one car getting average seats and sharing a room are within a two day drive and how many people will be there from the US????? And how many from Japan....the land of Artistry.....
Please dont spread disinformation without reference. Here are the true vax ratesLast I heard Japan had decided Covid was no longer an issue and tons of people died. Not that many had gotten vaxxed and those who had got the Japanese vaccine which is apparently much less effective than the US. If you told me I could go to a figure skating comp but had to not cheer I’d stay home.
I am disabled and on disability, though I do have a side job. I’m able to attend at most 2 comps per year. I prioritize Gracie so this year it was Philly and Nats. I would have loved to go to Cranberry, Skate America, International Classic, 4CCs but I can’t. Especially with this short turnaround between comps I’m not sure I could even do it physically let alone financially. My sister and I used to go together and she could drive in snow (I can’t). I doubt there is anyone near me who would want to go but if there is anyone in the St Louis area who would drop me a line..
I doubt I ever visit the land of $6.75 diet cokes again though.
I really dont know whose vax they are using but I have had all my five shots of US vaxes and when I got covid, thankfully there was paxlovid. Vax doesnt keep you from getting the virus....it lessens the effects.
