Not really a fan, the song is upbeat and while she looks like she's having fun her energy comes off flat in comparison to the song... maybe in person it was different
I thought it was great. Being a Barbie girl you're not exactly flying around the ice so the energy or lack thereof could be misleading from Anastasia. What did you think of KVs Wednesday? I was shocked and didn't really like it at 1st then she won the over with it and it's getting an insane amount of views on YouTube.

How the Russian skaters would have fared today. Scores taken from the Russian Nationals.

Edit. I should have excluded Akatieva because she is not age eligible.
That's not completely fair because the International skating Union judges are killing ISU skaters scores this year. The Russian federation not so much. Nastia should have been in the seventies and they've never put her above 70 in the SP and seems likely never will and they've never put her above 140 in the LP even when she deserved it like at olympics.

Certainly several of the Russian girls on the list you provided would have been ahead of Anastasia no matter what in the short program. But a few would have been lower than her if they were judged by the ISU. Like I said it makes no sense the ISU are killing scores this season and PCS scores and it makes no sense to do that without the Russians because it's making the sport look worse. The TES scores are also way down this season.

I think they have good reasons to do this. The scores were totally inflated and getting higher and higher in general. Of course for some more, for some less, but the trend overall was going towards better and better scores, and that's just not how a scoring system with an upper limit can work. Of course people are excited because of all the "records" and amazing numbers, but it is not sustainable. After a while everyone has 9s and almost 10s without deserving it, everyone gets crazy GOES on their jumps - it doesn't mean anything anymore, and when skaters actually execute elements perfectly or have divine skating skills the system doesn't allow them to be scored that much better anymore. It becomes a difference of e.g. 9.25 to 9.45 instead of 6 to 9. So it doesn't give any incentive anymore to really execute your program well.

Of course now people who want to see it that way or who know nothing at all will think the quality is not so good, but well, I'd say let them talk, let them see it that way. To continue with a scoring that can't work in the longer run destroys more. :)

While you make some fair points they don't have good reason to do this because they're killing their own product. Fewer people are interested fewer and people are in the stands.

There needs to be a happy compromise between overscoring like ISU has done for years and underscoring what they have done this year. This should not be hard to reach but for some reason it is. Every season the judging gets worse it's just not acceptable anymore.

And changing the PCS scoring this season makes no sense they've taken a couple of important categories out.

I would be OK with a low scoring if they had a history of doing this with KV Anna Sasha Alina Zhenya Aliona etc. Now it just looks strange. If when the Russian ladies come back instead of getting 240 points they're getting 230 points that would be fine if they're scoring the same for everybody at every event. But they put everybody in different categories like Anastasia. ISU has made it clear they will never score her 70 points or higher in the SP or 140 points or higher in the LP even when she's deserved it. This is a sport we love and are super frustrated with at the same time

I think the Russian judges are fairly restrained.

Valieva for her short program at nationals received 7.19 for her solid 3F. Hendrickx 6.97 despite a little shaky on the landing.

Valieva level 4 layback spin performed a near perfect Biellmann got mostly 4s some 5s a couple 3s, Hendickx 4s and mostly 5s. 34 technical score for a program with only a 3F and 2A both jumps a little shaky on landing (more so than 2A).

Gubanova got 32 for components in the short, which is what Zinina got in Russian nationals. Zinina probably should get more for components if anything. Gubanova was barely able to complete her spins at the end she was completely gassed.

I think ISU scores being lower is to do with the general level of regression in women's skating without the best in the world pushing everyone.

I think Russian judges got a little carried away early in the season at GP events (mainly with Trusova it was absurd), but in general they have been very, very reasonable.

I agree it doesn't suit her. Marchei-Hotarek Barbie girl was much better.

It's definitely a couple of things the level of the ladies is down this season. No Russians to push them and motivate them to be better is part of it and part of it is just after an unbelievably grueling Olympic season filled with coronavirus and the threat of getting coronavirus and having your Olympic season ruined. Stress was off the charts even before the Kamila controversy. But I am disappointed to see the scores so low for the ISU ladies. While the level is lower than last season I did not expect to see ladies winning events under 200 points. Not a good look for the sport
Even though it benefited my favorite skater Anastasia at Europeans.

Hopefully the competition will be very good it's important that these kids continue to develop. They just don't get the competitions like they used to.
