One word. Consistency. If Ilia starts showing that kind of consistency and gets better programs it will rise also.

No doubt. But I don't want it to go higher than those who really show their ice skills (excluding jumps) just because he's gotten more cleaner, but not better regarding his blade work. But we all know consistency automatically equals gradual increase in PCS, much to the incredulity of this sport. And to that I say, I will not be shocked, but will also add that I really hope Illia's skating skills will improve greatly by next Olympics, if not next season.

Well good news is that Ilia walking out with a medal and the US men have kept their three spots. The bad news is that the bais against Ilia is starting to show itself a bit. Now Uno won his title fair and square but I have problem with Cha getting the silver mostly though PCS because to be honest he is not much more artistic than Ilia and n my opinion. But next year Ilia going to be back and if bais continues he will just start doing Quint's because he working on them now and the worlds next year will be in our backyard.

I think he is a lot more artistic, if that is the right word, than Ilia was at this competition. Ilia needs better music—something he can relate to more—and perhaps should lower his technical content (but probably won’t).

But did she win the Olympics though? I don't think anyone is saying focusing on tech is not the way. But there certainly is no point crying when the person loses on the PCS when their PCS capability is not up to par.

If Sasha's jumps were slightly cleaner, she would have won. It's not the PCS that matters, but the cleanness of the landings.

But would she have won if she was better in PCS than Anna, with all the tech error she had? So how does the PCS not matter?

I'd argue that the PCS categories of performance, interpretation, and composition are subjective, due to cultural differences. And you shouldn't win by PCS if you have technical errors, unless there is literally no better option because there has to be a winner. See 2014 Olympics men's competition.

Though I consider the resultz correct, I feel sorry for Kevin Aymoz.
Two times on fourth place at Europeans and this time again.
Without any doubt he delivered the competition of his life, but it was not enough.

IMO Jason Brown deserved the highest components of the evening. He ist an artist, you can see him feeling the music.
It must be natuaral born, nobody can learn it that way.

Nathan was always artistic but got pushed in the direction of jump, jump jump by his coach and the federation. After the 2018 Olympics and turning 18, he decided to make artistry a priority also. I think Ilia will do the same after seeing the results of the free skate. I miss Nathan also, but we still have Jason.

I'm up to Morisi. I glimpsed what seems to be the final result in my Youtube feed trying to find the stream which disappeared from the ISU channel for me. Looks like Shoma won.

Morisi was incredible compared to where he was at Europeans where he looked clinically depressed. Never seen a skater so down in life.

Great skate just to jump those quads and land them. I hope it gives him incentive to continue.

Morisi in the kiss and cry, Eteri has been looking good this weekend and the Georgian lady that's always with the skaters well presented as always.

Ha Been a Stephane fan for awhile. I fondly remember a fan in another forum saying this costume looked like a pot holder(I think because of the quilting like thickness of the fabric). Fond memories..Thank you.

I’m perfectly fine with the results. Ilia held up well to the pressure (and there was plenty of that), but I do hope he makes smarter decisions with his layout next year. He absolutely does not need six quads or even five. He’s not going to beat Uno by bulking up on the TES; he’s got to improve his skating skills as that’s his biggest weakness. It was on full display in this final group. His performance and interpretation are fine as illustrated by his SP. He can perform when he wants to. He just needs to get his free skates squared away.

With that being said, his PCS only matters when up against Uno. He didn’t lose to Cha because of PCS. He lost because Cha had the skate of his life and he messed up one too many jumps. Otherwise, Cha’s PCS wouldn’t have held up against a cleaner Ilia.

Yes. Shun Sato and Kao Miura come to mind. Ilia is better than both of them in two out of three PCS categories.

Quick question if you know : Kevin Aymoz is coached by John Zimmerman (amongst others) and I read this coach was suspended by the Safesport organization for having pressured a teen into not reporting a d. pick sent by another skater.
Hence I'm super relectant with Aymoz...
What do you guys think?

Subjective.....both those ladies are Russian. So if you still feel there is bias in that judging, and 'due to cultural differences' , then I say you hang on to that theory, just not many will buy into it.

I did not say Ilia just jumped quads and didn't do anything else.

I simply expressed that doing as many quads as possible is not enough when all aspects of skating are being considered (independently) in scoring and are being rewarded accordingly.

In fact, I was not just thinking of Ilia when I typed out that comment. He's far from the only one who is beaten by skaters with lower technical content because they are more complete and well-balanced skaters. Or skaters with better PCS who are beaten by skaters that are weaker in PCS but have high enough TES scores to make up for the deficit.

The whole point of this scoring system (even if that was seemingly forgotten in some aspects for years) was to reward both technical and artistic prowess, i.e. balance!

If it's the program interpretation, then sure, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But to notice the cleanness of lines in the ice work or in the body position, there is not to look much between the lines when there is a gulf in between.

I like Illia's brand of skating (it's brash, it's hip, it's daring), but I am not at any point arguing that he has deeper edges or cleaner lines than those above him. Maybe some day I'll be able to. But today is not the day. Nice jumps though.

Although Ilia's 4A got positive GOE, it was only the 7th most valuable jump in the whole LP competition. Uno, Cha, Tomono and Rizzo all got better scores for their individual quads.
