Evgeni Semenenko

It's a crazy challenge, though. I don't know about medical studies in Russia, but here people are busy studying it pretty much all day long. It's not something you just do along the way. A subject that's very much about (binge-)learning.
And I'm not sure about Nathan Chen, the way I understood it, he did the pre-courses seriously, then took a bit of a time-out (two years) for the Olympics where he didn't do much at university, and now stopped figure skating to concentrate on his real medical studies? Maybe I'm wrong concerning those two years, though. I was also thinking about Valter Virtaanen.
Anyway, this season offered itself for Semenenko to sit out, heal properly, concentrate on his studies, hope for the return to the international scene later. But obviously he's super ambitious and likes his life busy and scheduled like that.
So all the best to him, especially since I read he tore 4 of 5 tendons in his knee?? That's a crazy injury to come back from, jump quads so soon again and become national champion.

Unfortunately, Zhenya couldn't win medal at the last competition of the season. He had very few time to prepare after illness. He just didn't have stamina to skate entire programs. He said in the mixed zone that he just couldn't do the third quad. Also, he said that this season had been very difficult because it was after Olympics. It's a pity he didn't end the season on a good note. In general, the performance wasn't even very bad, he didn't mess up the skates.

Given the problems he had in the off-season, it's good that this season was for him at all. And, imprortantly, he won the main competition of the season. Also, he continues to develop artistry and PCS in general.

Hopefully Zhenya will have a good rest and continue to progress.

After the skates he and his coaches looked like they hadn't expected that much more. So in the end maybe one could feel some regret he didn't medal, because most of the guys had quite a few mistakes in their programs and he was rather close, points-wise. But really, after I learned how severe his knee problems were, I think this was a great season in regards to what one could expect.
My main hope for him is that his health and body will be fine. Everything else is improving steadily, I like how they obviously work on all the smaller details and basics. I'm already excited for his next programs (oh, and quite excited for his new show program, since he's taking part in that gala event, right?)

Nice. It's different from his other recent programs and I think it is a good thing for him to do different styles, explore himself as a skater. Also nice long spread eagle and hydroblade.

Zhenya demonstrating an off-ice Russian split for one of Mishin's master classes. 🙀

Would you say the 4Lo is rather stable, isolated?
Yes. As I understand it, on all three shows he landed the 4Lo on his first attempt. Vids:

Plus, his Loop is very good itself (unlike, the Lutz). I think if he is healthy, his 4Lo will be at least as stable as Lutfullin's. Zhenya has been working on the 4Lo since 2020/21.
