Is it true that there was talk that Jeff should have been off the team?
I am a bit surprised to read this.

Is it true? Although he was beaten by Patrick at the Nationals, he beat the bronze medalist Sawyer by a large margin. His ISU ranking and his GP series performances were also much better than Sawyer. So I am a bit surprised to read this. Is it really true that Canadian Fed was considering dropping him off the team? Or is this just the media manipulation that tried to make the story more dramatic?

Then last December, Jeff fell at the nationals, and there was talk, he should be off the team.

According to this reporter, "Jeff Buttle heard that talk but he didn't listen." Bringing Buttle himself would be the best way to claim the "legitimacy" although this appears to me to be going a bit too far.
According to this guy, "no one was watching for him" before, either.
