Ideas for Davis & White

Maybe something from Madame Butterfly, to take advantage of their contrasting looks? Don't know if any of the music is actually skateable though....

Actually there has been quite a few skates to "Madame Butterfly", both singles and dancers. I seem to recall Blumberg and Seibert doing a routine to that back in the 80s. Yep, I found it. It was the 85 World Pros, though, so definitely not a CoP routine.

I can't find the vid, but Dubreuil and Lauzon used MMe Butterfly in 2002 as a free dance.

Since we were already talking about possible ODs for the Olympics, I definitely want D/W to not just go back to 'Kalinka'. I really didn't feel that it fit them very well. As some have mentioned, maybe something Irish? I was also looking for something English but couldn't find anything, but didn't happen upon some Swedish.

You know by the time we find out what they actually ARE skating to this season, we will have covered a broad spectrum of ideas! Igor should have plenty of ideas to choose from...but yeah, like he needs our advice!

So, since he hasn't had Meryl and Charlie do a Latin FD, what are the odds that he will soon? Have we already discussed this? Probably.

I really liked their 06-07 season OD and I think doing Latin might help them. It would have to be good, though, not cheesy and the music needs to be interesting.

What's cheesy Latin? Don't think I've ever seen something that's both cheesy and Latin at the same time....

A jig of some sort might be good. Something fast, with a lot of tricky footwork. They say they like to bring athleticism to their dances, so something that has that aspect would let them shine.

I was watching their Worlds CD again the other day, and was impressed by how they sought to bring difficulty to the dance -- for example, after the lady's twizzle, Meryl kept her hands up and glided towards Charlie. That's relatively risky (as we saw sadly with B/A), since it means she can't use Charlie to balance herself after twizzling. It's also harder to balance with your hands over your head like that. Good for them!!

Ricky Martin ring a bell?

And I loved their CD at Worlds, I thought it was a big improvement for them. I watched the CBC version with PJ Kwong and she liked it although she dinged them for "slight" timing issues the second time around. I personally didn't see it but I'm not as technik as she is, I'm sure. With Meryl lifting her hands after the twizzle and also the little "flick" Charlie did with Meryl's boot (in another section) I thought they really tried to add difficulty. Course, really, their CD score was pretty good, afterall.

Their strength definitely is in the athleticism so I agree; a jig would be right up their alley.
I hadn't really thought about that in their CD, but kudos to them. I'll have to watch it now to watch for that more closely.

Wow, that was stunning. What a choice of music to skate to. What could go with it, though, for a faster section? This would give me chills, I swear.

The Chairman's Waltz may be the best selection from the Memoirs of a Geisha soundtrack that is full from beginning to end with amazing music. Some it has already been overused, but it is so beautiful i can't tire of it (at least not yet). Many skaters have used the chairman's waltz along with the faster "brush on silk" or "going to school" with great effect.

think Navk & kostomorov 2006 olympics.

Have V/M been performing their OD for this next season? I saw a picture on fsuniverse-I'll bbl with the link- where Tessa is wearing a black dress and Scott is wearing a black shirt and white pants. I'm just curious about whether or not they're already getting it out there because it makes me even more impatient to know what Meryl and Charlie are doing.

How about: Alabamy Home by Duke Ellington
A String of Pearls by Glenn Miller
Diga Diga Doo by Rex Stewart and the Ellingtonians
One O'Clock Jump by Benny Goodman

Haven't Scott and Tessa been performing lately? They've been in CSOI and a skating carnival in Ilderton. I noticed someone on the thread suggested it was their OD but I'm pretty sure it isn't. It was probably just an exhibition we haven't seen.

These days I'm really into techno and techno/rock and stuff like that -- try searching for these songs:

Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"
Groove Cutter "My Shooter"
Control One "Just A Little Bit"
Ian Carey "Redlight"
Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"

I don't usually go for techno but these are sort of like a wierd crossover between rock and techno/trance.

Most of them I got (LEGALLY) from this list on itunes -- http://electricnation2010.com/tracks

:agree:
