2024 Grand Prix de France Men's Short Program

lol i hear Adam, no long M... as a matter of fact, both "a" are very short too, the way I would say it as a native speaker and how it's said in the "how to say" video I have shared earlier... but you know.. that is probably just me being old and deaf.

ETA in French, often the final consonant is silent. Like in Thomas, you won't hear the S like you would in English MASS but it will be MA.
With the AM combo, it turns the A into a nasal vowel which doesn't quite exist in English. Richaud says it that way and not in some other version which would give A- DAMmmm with a long wet M and no nasal.. It's very short vowels, the first A being a clear and pure A sound and the second the AM is transformed into a AN sound, close, short and dry nasal.

here in case you need it again

PS I work with singers a lot and diction is one of my things so.. sorry for being so detailed about this. :)

There is no long M it is just an M that can be heard.

I sing. My mother was a professional singer. Diction? Come on, now. If anything, when one sings, you don't have to have precise pronunciation unless one is trying to emulate Streisand. There is a fluidity and freedom with how one sings and how one uses the words that makes the music their own. Seems you and I have different ideas, but our common ground is what constitutes great skating.

Cheers.

I work with classically trained singers and diction is a must. I am a French diction specialist. So there's that. I can tell you that the M is silent and simply transforms the A into a nasal vowel. That's just what it is... That's a fact and not an opinion. I will leave it there and I agree that we both like good skating ;)

I just rewatched Koshiro Shimada’s SP and this charming skater is quickly growing on me. He has such an agile lightness and artistic flair, but I would like to see more command and confidence from him. He seems to have a tendency to make silly mistakes on jumps that should come easily for him. I look forward to watching his development and maturity in the coming events.

Sasha Selevko’s skating skills, choreography, transitions and musical interpretation have all really stepped up this season. His SP and FS are both brilliant in these aspects. The consistency on the jumps is the missing ingredient in the recipe and I hope he puts that piece of the puzzle together very soon, so he can reclaim his spot on championship podiums. He really is a brilliant skater!

I've been wondering the same thing too! I have seen them literally at every competition this year. They must have the finances to be travelling to each competition ..... i enjoy seeing them tho:)
We've met them @ several competitions (Skate America last year & 2 weeks ago, 2024 US Nationals, & Montreal Worlds)! Their names are Sophie & Marie. They are from France, and live not too far from Angers. I always say "Bonjour" to them when they are walking through the concourse. Two weeks ago I spoke to one of them in the concourse. I think it was Marie. They seem like lovely people & I appreciate seeing the many banners they have made in support of the skaters as well as the international flags they hold up for them. I wonder if they will be @ the last three GP competitions & the finals.

Just caught up. Adam does it again! Surprised and delighted by Koshiro coming second, although as museksk8r pointed out, he made a few silly jump mistakes and came across as a bit hesitant. Sad for Kazuki - hopefully his jumps will stabilize later in the season, he is so fun to watch. Jaw-dropping 3A-4T from Shaidorov! Unfortunately, his incredible jumps just seem to highlight glaring shortcomings in skating skills, spins, etc. He's still quite young, though, so looking forward to seeing him develop.
