I thought this was pretty funny on its own merits (Aussie friends, are Lamingtons really that good?)

(You don't need to know anything about football (as that term is used by 75% of Anglophones and in the US and Australia ;) , it's all about the snacks)

Lamingtons should always be bought from a bakery so they are fresh (or be homemade of course), the ones he had, which came in a plastic packet from a supermarket? - would have been a bit dry yes. But a proper bakery-bought lamington is a thing of beauty, a joy forever and One Of The Things That Makes Australia Great 🇦🇺 (we have a National Lamington Day, no surprise) they are trotted out at every important occasion and are the staple of school cake stalls.

These days they also can come with a layer of jam, or cream, or jam and cream :) and also coated in a strawberry rather than chocolate sauce, and quite a few other variations. All of which are deliiiiiicious if a tad messy to eat (well, the coconut does get everywhere even if you are not a small child) but the one above is THE icon.

I notice they also mentioned two of our other famous foods, Tim Tams (Nature's Perfect Health Food) and Vegemite which... is famous for all the wrong reasons but I came here as a child and learned to love it; when I travelled overseas I took to packing my own because there is nothing like lying awake in a London hotel at 2 a m because you cannot have a vegemite sandwich on white bread. And you want it.
