Nordic skating (FIN, SWE, NOR, DEN, ISL)

Soon a Norwegian pairs team? Camilla Gjersem joking about doing a comeback as a pair skater with Alex Johnson, they just had some fun skating outdoors, but seriously have some potential. Also the fact that they matched their clothing so well just by coincidence makes me think they are meant to be a pairs team :biggrin:

Oh i´m going to pretend this is happening!

Wouldn't it be lovely if Nordic open would have all the disciplines in seniors? I think the organizers could try if there would be enough skaters, and it would raise the valuation of the competition too.
Oh absolutely! We are starting to have a good number of ID teams, Sweden in particular with all the new ID teams and even pairs are starting to get better. Even Denmark has a ID team. And then we have other countries who could go, since the competition is open. I think the only issue Nordics is close to Bavarian Open?

I think it´s just a question of time before Norway will have a new ID team and a pairs team. It seems like there is some kind of golden age of new teams arising in different countries. Hopefully Milla has inspired other Norwegians, and same with Maria and James showing at Europeans last season. And I hope Iceland having a pairs team could inspire.

The domestic competitions are packed with young girls skating, at some point I expect some of them to look another way. I havn´t heard anything yet about the Norwegian girl from Follo who went to the pairs seminar in Bergamo, I think she has gone back to competing in singles. I think she hasn´t found a partner yet.

Wow... where are they skating?

So what is Alex doing in Oslo? Are they a pair off ice? Or is he a coach of a norwegian skater?
I have been wondering about the same thing.. LOL. No they are not a pair I think...I think it was just a random meet up because he was there in another occasion. Camilla wrote that it was a reunion in the post, which implies they havn´t seen each other in a long time.

The first story I saw was Agnes Zawadski and him and Louisa Warwin skating at the Frogner stadium, and some other skaters I couldn´t recognize. I don´t know how they are connected to Louisa, she is basically retired and doing Disney shows all over the world. She has a huge social media platform though and is half American. Maybe they connected with Louisa there. Louisa is connected to the skating club of Oslo, so there could be a visit to the club there for some reason, but I havn´t seen the club post anything about this which I guess they would done if it was the case.

My first thought since Agnes Z is there with Alex is that is somehow related to Mia Risa Gomez. Alex is a choreographer as well, so I was thinking about if they are there to make a new SP for Mia. Mia ditched her new latin SP only after two competitions, and has been skating to the her old SP program the last two competitions, which she already had for two seasons. Her ISU profile isn´t updated yet with the new music, so it doesn´t seem like it´s decided. I wasn´t sure if there would be time for her to make a new SP now, so i´m not sure, but it would make sense with the visit.

My other thought (mostly wishful thinking) is that Agnes Z is back to coach with Mia. I found it so odd that the coaching already ended since it just seemed like the beginning, but I guessed it had something to do with that Mia moved and changed clubs. It occurred to me that Agnes started coaching with Mia in November last year - I started to think about if Agnes could have a clause in her contract with the old club that made her unable to coach in another club before the contract ended after a year. So that she returns to Norway just one year after she first started coaching is a bit odd timing. I don´t know if contracts like that are normal though... However that wouldn´t explain why Alex Johnson is in Norway as well....

I think my first theory about them making a new program for Mia is more likely. I guess we will just have to wait and see if there will be anymore clues, or if Mias ISU profile updates with new music. Nationals is in 2 weeks so if she has a new program I will find out then.

I doubt that Agnes and Alex is just randomly going to Norway to do outdoor skating with retired skaters for social media content 😅 So they are probably there related to skating.

Their side-by-side spins are actually fairly well in sync! :laugh4:

Yeah it´s not so bad for a random try out....

I think they are both too busy to return to competitive skating, Alex is coaching Camden Pulkinen and having a corporate job. Camilla is a lawyer now so I´m guessing she is working a lot, she also just bought herself an apartment. So I guess she will be pursuing the corporate life for a while to pay her new mortgage...

All though I love the idea of her returning to skating in her 30s, just like Deanna.

I was curious because I know it will be close and checked this. 26.11.2024 Finland's situation in scores for EC spot:

Linnea and Makar are supposed to have one international competition still. Oona and Selma have one too, if they skate skates of their lives in both there and in nationals, then they are competing about the spot too, but so far it has not been their season. Janna is probably in safe already.

Nationals is important this time for skaters. I don't have favorite, rules are fair and told in advantage, so just let the best scored skaters get the spots.

Nella is my favorite. This girl can glide

But I don't mind Janna going to EC if she is in her best shape. Then, hopefully, she can squeeze in the European top 10 and secure two spots for Finland which will in turn provide a chance for Nella when Nella fully recovers from her injury 🤞

Finland has two spots now. Nella has competed twice this season, another was qualification for nats and those scores are counted. Linnea, Nella and Olivia are very close before nats. As none of them has any Cs left, nationals will play big role.

Unfortunately this year, Nella is recovering after an injury. Even if she goes to EC, she may be unable to make the best out of it :(

Be as it may, I wish all girls to skate clean programs at Nationals and beat their PB records! :cheer2:

I think this perhaps involves more of the Nordic countries or Scandinavia? Viaplay has just bought the rights to broadcast skating (including figure skating) for the next 3 seasons, until the end of 26/27 season.

I have not seen any announcements or did not find anything in Finnish, but ChatGPT made the work for me

I have seen nothing about in Finnish yet, but I asked ChatGPT to make the work for me in English. It answered all Viasat has bought the rights in all Nordic countries. Definetely will not buy it. Though I could afford it, I find it too expensive only for FS. I don't so much other winter sports that it would be worth it. VPN is my friend again then. But as we know, ChatGPT can make errors. When I googled in English, I found only one column titled "Viaplay returns as ISU broadcaster in Norway".

About Euros/tinland, to be more accurate: as the first mark in the list is CS/GP, only Selma and Makar can improve it. The second mark can be any international or FS, and Linnea has one competition left before nats. I cannot see Selma score 170 even if she skated clean, 160 is possible.

For worlds, the first mark can also be other ISU international scores than CS/GP hold on the second part of the season.
