2025 Europeans: Info and pre-game chat

No surprises there. It's good to see Phebe and James continuing to do well (we already know that Lilah and Lewis are doing well). They won Golden Spin!
I'd be delighted if they place high enough at this year's Euros (along with Lilah and Lewis) to earn an extra ice dance place for next year. I think they could manage it.

They could manage it, but it wouldn't be easy (although it would be nice!). Both our teams would need to go completely clean and have others make mistakes. Based on current ISU seasons best, they would miss out by one place. The Finnish team above Bekker and Hernandez are fairly consistent and not the easiest to overhaul, and van Rensburg and Steffan can overtake Bekker and Hernandez if they re-find their top form. After their difficulties earlier in the season, I expect Guignard and Fabbri to have sorted things out and to take the title.

We're going! Tickets for all the free programmes booked! Cheap seats to allow us to afford it, I'm afraid!
😂
I'm going, too - tickets bought for both Men's events, plus pairs and ice dance free. (I might get a last minute ticket to the pairs short, too as I'd really like to cheer on Anastasia VL and Luke D - my favourite team this season).

I'm really looking forward to Tallinn, and I've got my collection of flags sorted, and have just added ones for Croatia (Jari Kessler) and Monaco (Davide Lewton-Brain) ...

I think what was most impressive about their Golden Spin victory was who they beat rather than the score. Beating Davis/Smolkin again may be key. I think Bekker and Hernandez have a shot of a top 10 finish but 11th or 12th should be enough. I have a hunch Fear & Gibson are going to win Euros this year - but they won't be on podium at Worlds

Is it too early for a 2026 Europeans thread - British Ice Skating did a 1 year to go post earlier today and mentioned first batch of tickets will be on slae at the end of the Month.

I think this year is Fear and Gibson's best chance of getting on the Worlds podium, but it would require either Guignard/Fabbri or Gilles/Poirier to make significant mistakes. Next year, I think Lajoie/Lagha and Lopareva/Brissaud will have caught up with them.

Congrats to you both! It's always nice to read when GSers get to attend comps and shows! If I were picking four events, I'd either do what you're doing pesto and select all the FSs or what you're doing Ruthypegs and select both Men's programs and Pairs and Dance free. But...any would be great to attend, of course!

Also happy to see the flags for Jari Kessler and Davide Lewton-Brain. :)

Thank you - and I've just bought a ticket for the Pairs Short, so am really looking forward to that!

My choice was partly influenced by the schedule...

We arrive in Tallinn too late on Wednesday to see anything then. So two evenings and then all day Saturday suits us well - we can do the touristy stuff and lunches out in the days, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, before a Sunday evening flight.

Tallinn looks gorgeous, and we found an apartment in the Old Town, so I'm really looking forward to it. Plus, I think Tallinn did a superb job, the year they held both Europeans and Four Continents!

That's great! I've never waved flags, but I always like to see them in the audience. I have just ordered a Union Jack scarf, that I think I could wave as a flag for the Brits, if I don't feel too self-conscious.

Go for it! I'm sure the British skaters will appreciate it you waving your Union Jack scarf! My flag waving is my small way of saying thanks to the skaters, although I now have a lot of flags and they take up a sizeable portion of luggage space....but like you, I like seeing flags in the audience. (I was so impressed by the numbers of Lithuanian flags on show for the ice dance at last year's Europeans - it must have been amazing for Allison and Saulus to see so much support.)

We are traveling hand baggage only with Wizz, who are the meanest airline for bag size, so the scarf is a way to bring a flag without using our measly allowance! I think it'll be big enough for the purpose.

I'm also travelling hand baggage only (but with Finnair/Norwegian, who seem a bit more generous), so have gone very frugal with everything else I'm taking (except the flags). However, this is not something I'd necessarily recommend.....

I'm impressed that you are managing to combine two functions with one item - keeping warm and supporting the British skaters!
