2025 World Junior Championships Women's SP

This was a very good competition. I’m happy all three Japanese ladies skated clean (well, to the eyes) and are in the final flight. I’m especially glad Gurgenidze is in second. I think that was her best performance ever; I hope she goes for a 3A or two in the free. I think she’ll get on the podium if she does and skates clean.

Little Mao is what she is and she’ll be doing it again next year, but she really shouldn’t even bother. The podium is wide open and that makes things very interesting for the free. As for Shin Jia….four-time silver medalist sounds terrible so my mindset is gold or nothing when it comes to her.

Mao is just outstanding and a total star. You can't help but smile watching her skate... so excited for her to hit the senior ranks but already her projection is wonderful. The 3Z was definitely q, so she was gifted a couple points (and a PB), but still by far the best skate.

A bit surprised about Jia not being in the final flight (the lutz was pretty off and she went for the triple toe but that was costly when a safer double would have put her in the top 6). but there were so many great skates (especially from Inga and glad to see Elyce get it together), that it's a fair result (and the scores are so tight anyways that she'll likely podium.

She has one more year of juniors, unfortunately.
It's so crazy that she's unable to join seniors. Metelkina/Berulava and past skaters like Sui/Han (who won Junior Worlds 3 times, including a senior GPF bronze the 2nd year they won Junior Worlds, and Four Continents title before winning it a 3rd time) are slaying in seniors and yet still allowed to compete at Junior Worlds.. but it's nonsensical that it doesn't go the other way around.

IMO, the winner (or top 2) of Junior Worlds should be given an optional berth at Senior worlds in every discipline.

Yeah it's ridiculous she's ready for Seniors and doing Jr Worlds next year isn't even worth it. They should have made the age limit 16 and not made it 17 which Mao will be at the end of the year which makes it even more irritating for her no doubt to be 17 and yet kept out of the Olympics. This rule really needs to be looked because this girl is not getting anything out of competing at this level anymore especially after she wins a 3rd Jr Worlds.

Unfortunately, there's always going to be someone who gets screwed over by the age rule and cutoff date. For example, Sofia Muravieva was born in the second half of 2006, meaning she just missed out on the 2022 Olympics, and now she'll probably never get another chance. Even if they made the senior age 16 instead of 17, you'd still have talented skaters missing out

And then potentially have 13-year-old's competing against people in their 20's? There's no reason for children to be competing with adults.

Poor Jana got screwed over...there's no way Yujae should have went above her. And I don't know why SJF is going for the 3A in the short when it gives barely any advantage. Just an unnecessary risk (and honestly dumb, since she hasn't had much success with it). Jia...it makes me sad to see her struggling this season, but hopefully it just means she'll be on her A game next season. Not a fan of this ripoff Yuna Kim program, though

On a more positive note, so happy for Elina!! She actually has a decent shot at taking bronze here if she's clean in the free. But next season she really needs to work on getting all her levels

Omigod, Gurgenidze in second? Was there some sort of an omen in Debrezen? The sun stood still in the sky for that night? What the heck happened?

She was simply great :) and didn't yolo jumps that don't work for her yet ;)
She was always great, they just didn't get her programs. Anyway, the phantom of the free skate is there, but I am looking forward to catching up before it spoils things. Sucks that Von Felten had problems tho.

There is more than enough - in fact way too much - fudging the rules as they are to benefit this or that favoured skater as is, now we want to change the rules just to benefit one?

Yes, it's unfortunate for her but the age change was made for good reasons which I suspect most of the people mourning for Mao S happily agreed with (especially when Russians girls of the same age were dominating). There were always going to be those who were kept down by it, everyone knew it when agreeing it was a good idea, they can't in all fairness now turn around and go 'oh but while it's fine for this girl and that girl, there should be an exception designed just for one!"

well i missed the final flight but from what i saw, this was an epic SP with skaters having 3-3 combos and relatively clean programs not qualifying.... It is amazing to witness the sport growing so much in the last few years ! Bravo everyone !
I was so happy to see skaters from Switzerland and France (and whatever country the girl with the Fifth Element program is from ---she nailed it, and I even liked her unique costume) challenge with "the big skating countries."

I gasped out loud at Inga getting a 67+ score. I thought the judges never like her. So proud of her 😊
I am still in shock and can't wait to see her get the score in C&K! I loved her from that year when she said she skated to the music she liked from a zombie serial or something. That's not exactly your usual mellow dirges princess medley!
