I think the US team is actually one of the simpler ones. Levito + Liu + either Glenn or Tennel. The US Fed have never really seemed to like Sarah Everhardt and she is coached by Ilia's mam, who he doesn't like to go to competitions. Elyce-Lin Gracey isn't ready yet. She has a tendency to freeze at major events and underperform.

Some of the other Feds have much tougher choices to make with Olympic selections.

I think next season, an up-and-comer will arrive, peaking at just the right events, and snatch a spot away from the already-decided team.

Alysa's performance coincided with the last two minutes of the NCAA basketball tournament game with Michigan State ahead of Ole Miss 69 to 67. I had to wrestle with my wife for control of the remote.

I was bummed when Alysa was so close to winning Nationals again but for a mistake at the end and a double jump at 4CC that kept her off the podium but i will take a World championship thank you very much.

Big Congratulations to Alysa!!! Her FS was first rate as was Kaori and Mone! Lovely podium. Shout out to all the other skaters, to many to mention who contributed to making this a very enjoyable event! Thank you!

Unfortunately, my boys are losing 4-1 in the 3rd period. I'm glad I watched the skating because it'll take a miracle for them to come back.

Yes, I will complain about scores. Regardless of whether or not calls would have changed the results of this competition, it is a disgrace for the sport to have unequal standards for skaters, especially at an event like the World Championships.
If they can do it at a GP and Jr Worlds, they can do it at Sr Worlds too.

Alysa was coming on strong if you watched her for the full season she was regaining her stamina and if not for a botched spin might have won Nationals and doubled a salchow which she can do in her sleep that barely kept her off the podium by about 1.55 points at 4CC.

Oh, I know.

My point is that almost anything can happen. Skaters can catch fire... or go bust... at the exact moment they need to (or don't need to, in the case of bust).

I love a good backstory as much as anyone, but backstories don't win titles. Stellar skating at exactly the right moment... that's what wins titles, and I am so pleased she delivered for all of us, but mostly for herself.

Liu has mediocre skating skills, almost zero transitions - and her program was basically jumping drill until choreo sequence. How that easy approach was rewarded by 70 PCS? Isn't it humiliating for veteran skaters like Wakaba, for example?

Look, everyone knew going into this Boston Worlds that the American contenders' scores in the three disciplines were going to be seriously home cooked, and it's proving just that, so let's roll with it. I like Alysa (and C/B) and am therefore not at all discontent especially given that she's a lovely skater with a lovely backstory and can if handled right make a decent splash media-wise. Maybe even taking some of that cooking to Milan next year. But...

Seriously-Alysa won the SP with NO American judge on the panel. Chock and Bates have won Worlds in countries that aren’t the US. Ilia also won in countries not called USA. Our pairs teams received appropriate scores and placements. The US ladies have been winning this year.
Kaori was rewarded appropriately for her skating. She had higher PCS than Alysa. Alysa matches Kaori toe to toe in charisma. She skated the lights out in that program.

In case you don’t remember Kaori has been beaten this year by Amber, in a country not named USA.
The home cooking is sour grapes. If Alysa had won elsewhere, you’d be saying that the judges made a deal.

Probably not, but if I were King of USFSA as I rightfully deserve, I'd send a message congratulating everyone on a fantastic season, and state point blank that the slate is wiped clean. You want a spot on the Olympic Team? You start earning it, right now. See you in the summer comps.

With the combined totals of how Livia kaiser and kimmy respond finished at Worlds, how many spots for the Olympics does Switzerland have?

So? We have known for years and years that having home advantage matters - not only in the US, blatantly in Russia, remember Sochi? - and Japan and so on because it's so very political, and the big feds and the big TV stations have a lot of influence. I don't have a problem with it for Alysa, she's a good champion and deserves it a lot more than others have.

The home cooking is sour grapes.

It's a fact of figure skating, probably all judged sports. People have accepted it - more or less - as the price paid.

WOW! Alysa really delivered. I can’t get over it! Just wow. What a moment.

Yes there were calls etc but it is most likely that visually to the layperson’s eye; 1, 2 and 3 were perfect and that’s incredible!
