2025 World Figure Skating Championships Free Dance

CPom vis a vis the LaLas is the one that stands out to me. Smart/Dieck’s high score to me is more a reflection of their having had two truly outstanding programs this year.
Fear & Gibson, I think the handwriting has been on the wall for a long, long time, since they were the charming upstart Disco Brits.
I don’t know what went wrong with LaLa. But clearly something did. The look in Zack’s eyes as they exited the ice… he knew that wasn’t enough.

Totally vapid comment: Paul is old school Hollywood handsome with his hair slicked back. Very Cary Grant.

Still, it is a bit of an annual showdown between the Italians and Brits. :cheeky:
I saw a few here predict F/G to win, but they messed up hugely and got overtaken by Evgenia and Geoffrey.
I would bet a small but not insignificant amount of money to say Guignard and Fabbri will miss europeans. To lose to fear gibson just before home olympics would be unnecessary bad momentum.

Barbara Fusar-Poli says that some competitions just don't turn out right, but she's happy about her team's performance.
She is baffled by the outcome but tries to be diplomatic. Judging is part of he sport and one has to be ready.
It's not 100% sure that Guignard/Fabbri are going to keep skating 😲, she says that it's their decision.

I'm wondering if the Italian Fed is going to aim for a Team medal, by sacrificing some pawns in the individual events. 🤔

Detailed marks

USA, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Ukraine and Slovakia for Chock/Bates
China, Korea and Italy for Gilles/Poirier
Ukrainian judge had Fear/Gibson over Gilles/Poirier
For the sake of the South Korean judge, bette for her not to cross paths with Charlene Guignard in the hotel
9th place?!
I only just realised F/G came 6th in the free dance and won a world medal, incredible

I had another perception of LaLa at the end. They looked happy. Also, Marjorie was VERY surprised with their ranking.
Nothing went wrong in their skating. They have lower levels than I would have expected but so did most teams. Where it played out is in the GOE and PCS.

Judges often play with the pecking order at worlds, before Olympics... this is a clear message that LaLa will not be in the final flight for the Olympics... it's also a clear message that CPOM are being promoted as USA number one ahead of next worlds... as I doubt that both the USA and ITA teams will participate at worlds... Piper and Paul may do so.. in order to catch the title... but in any case, CPOM would be on the podium with a couple teams retiring... and not LaLa.

This is not a conspiracy theory... just an observation based on many years of seeing the shuffling of teams at worlds prior Olympics in dance ;)

I thought G/F, F/G and G/P all looked slightly tense today. C/B are not my personal favourites, although I do like a lot of their programmes, but I thought they skated brilliantly today and deserved to win the free - their skate was amazing! Piper and Paul were spectacular and deserved their silver. I'd love to see them win Gold before they retire.

I'm very happy that F/G won Bronze (also because it will really help to build to bring more attention to figure skating here in the UK (where it's sadly under-resourced and hardly ever promoted/broadcast).

However, there were a few teams that I thought would also have been worthy Bronze medal winners.

They won't have a chance of a team medal if G/F are not there. I don't want to contemplate them not going 😢

Maybe they really will retire, and not stick it out for another Olympic season. Is that possible? I didn’t think so before today, but…CPom have to be seen as contenders now, don’t they? Given their scores here?
They’ve stuck it out this long. I cannot imagine they wouldn’t go 11 more months.

No matter what happens at the Olympics, I hope C/B retire immediately after and I hope P/P do not.

I want a clean path to a WC for them. They’ll walk through that door or they won’t. But I want them to.
