2024-25 U.S. Pairs Figure Skating

So who do yall think USFS will send to the qualifying event to try to qualify the 3rd spot?

But when, truly, was the last time they did that?
Their ceiling is still higher than everyone else.

Shin/Nagy - she's still learning, and I think they'll be formidable, but they still need time to cook
Plazas/Fernandez - we have no idea where he is in his recovery from surgery, so who knows when they could actually start training again
McBeath/Parkman - maybe, but some of their international skates don't inspire a lot of confidence
Flores/Wang - love them, but I wouldn't send them to this qualifier as an early first or second senior assignment
Williams/Lewer - love them, too, but they're not ready for it yet, either, putting aside the fact that they can't go to the Olympics this time around anyway

Oh no! This is terrible. I’m so worrried about him. Not to mention they were going to do the Ice Dreams Tour and I’m sure that won’t happen now.

Added: he was skating with a broken foot?!?!
Being a closer fit than street shoes, a skate boot holds the foot immobile as well as a cast would. If you've got a high pain threshold and you can stand putting weight on it, you're fine, for a short while at least. The voice of experience

That sounds awful. My poor Danny.

Will he be able to skate next season?
Right now, we have no reason to think he wouldn't. I would imagine that they might be a bit behind their normal prep schedule for next season.

I have a family friend who is a physical therapist, and next time I chat with her, I'm going to try to remember to ask her about recovery times for an injury like this in general.

Thanks so much.

^^^ Thanks for asking your friend @ramurphy2005 Since Danny is a mature skater I think he will go by doctors' advice and not rush things. Even if he is off ice for a couple of months, they can still have programs choreographed and Ellie can work on her individual skills.

I wouldn't claim their performance at worlds was great, I think it was pretty good, Their lifts and presence top notch, their throws and jumps still need work. (And I say that as a big fan of theirs.) But that's true of all our pair teams. Even E/M had a couple of twitches in their otherwise fantastic skate. But both teams gave the USA the good probability of having three teams at the Olympics. For that they both will get a big round of applause from me.

Just talked to my friend, she just happened to call out of the blue.

She said that depending on the severity of the injury since there is surgery involved, it could be a recovery time in the range of 8-12 weeks just for the injury itself.
I don’t understand. What else is left besides the injury?

So that’s 3 months. I hope they are getting him into surgery now. Like this week.

That healing time doesn't factor in when they'd actually let him on the ice again.
